Flag of the United Democratic Republic of Sri Lanka. The 3 primary colours symbolism is as OTL, Green for Sri Lankan Moors/Muslims, Orange for Tamils/Hindus and Maroon for Sinhalese/Buddhists. White is for peace and coexistence.
This Sri Lanka is somewhat different from OTL. It is more democratic and less Sinhalese/Buddhist centrist.
British Ceylon became a Dominion in 1924 as a part of granting of Dominion status to many Colonies of the British Empire as Britain itself had fallen to far-Left revolutionaries. This Dominion of Ceylon was invaded and annexed by the Indian Federation in 1948. The island got its independence back in 1977 and the United Democratic Republic of Sri Lanka was established.

IMO I've always prefered the Bar or Stars on the pole side of the flag and any stripes and embelem on the other side, so for me something like this looks better.

Thanks! I personally agree about the location of the three stars, it was more of a concession towards continuity with the old designs than anything. Of course, if there was no particular reason to originally have the red stripe on the right side as opposed to the left, it wouldn't matter at all. The symbolism is a bit opaque in that regard, which was why I wanted to spice it up by adding the stars.

These flags are for my fictional nation, the Equalist Union. Some were made by finding random flags online and editing them to my taste.
The Land Force is the branch of the Equalist Union responsible for ground based warfare. Members of this branch have received extensive military training. Most members of the land force are of android or transhuman type, with very little humans serving in the army, unless as back up or volunteers. The Land Force fights battles with no qualms about genocide of the enemy. They will fight to win by any means necessary and secure their targets through brutality if it means so. Think like a futuristic North Korea. Usually, those seeking to apply in other branches of the military are required to serve time in the Land Force first as all peoples could perhaps find themselves fighting on the ground first and foremost.
The most extensive branch of the Military of the Equalist Union is the Space Force. Members in the space force are to undertake missions on other planets and in other systems. Mostly for securing resources, defending colony out posts, and engaging in interstellar warfare with other powers. They always fight offensive wars, and never appear 'weak' unless if the situation calls for it. The Space Force is where most members of the military eventually end up serving, and it is considered a duty of all Equalist Union soldiers to serve in the Space Force at some point in their lives. There are some A.I and android roles, although most of it is human and humanoid in nature. The Space Force takes upon any advantage needed, including orbital bombing of civilian and industrial areas of enemy planets and territory, and fighting aggressive unrestricted warfare.
Perhaps the most terrifying branch of the military, the cyber force is responsible for observing all communication on the internet and personal cell devices. They listen to everything that anyone talks about, and have a paramilitary wing that is responsible for arresting and detaining offenders. They have the most power of all the branches of the military and are mostly staffed by human and android staff. They carry out their orders with terrifying brutality. They are also responsible for hacking and doing cyber warfare in other nations networks and military, and spreading propaganda to other nations or communications networks that belong to other powers, installing viruses that hack the mainframes of enemy nations...turning it over to the Cyber Force to examine and judge.
The police are an official branch of the military. Primarily those evaluated to enjoy prying into other people's lives. The police have the power to search anyone's house whenever, and any resistance will result in arrests. There is usually one human officer with a team of 5 androids to carry out the officer's whims. The system is innocent until proven guilty however that usually is a mask, as they collaborate with the Cyber Force in order to arrest and detain people. The Police drive in unmarked humvees with a variety of tools to stop enemy vehicles. They also use lethal and brutal force without any opposition. They are also the enforcers of slavery and take joy in hunting down escaped slaves. They also publicly humiliate offenders. Usually first time offenders are let loose with a stern warning, but those who repeat or do really bad crimes are sold into slavery or into forced manual labor

The USOS (unidentified submerged objects) can be all sorts of shapes. Sometimes spotted by weird distortions or glowing lights under the water. They are extremely stealthy and prefer to use long range equipment. The people in these craft are under water for long periods of time but the craft they use are larger on the inside and don't conform to Euclidian space so don't get cramped. They also are responsible for the strange sinking of enemy ships. Often, you don't even know you are war at them. When you sink, you have no idea who caused it. You are confused, and you will perish not knowing who was responsible.

It operates by Starlight's direct orders and investigates all anomalous events in space, time, and the paranormal. They investigate all things unknown through any means necessary.

They arise from another planet named Agarthanon that has human life that evolved there. Their whole origins don't make sense but they aren't from the Earth really. Antarctica would be a good base for them though.

In the Years following Nuclear Exchange, much of the North American continent was rendered uninhabitable by nuclear fire, or irradiated winds. But still life carried on, and pockets of survivors made the best of a bad situation, slowly carving out new nations from the carcasses of those states killed all those years ago. With time, many of the irradiated lands became habitable again, and these states grew larger, eventually reestablishing contact with one another. Some would trade, some would ally, and others would fall back into the cycle of competition which helped to end the old world. Nevertheless the greater scarcity in certain resources and a desire to better improve the world by an means necessary would see many of these states come together, exchanging rediscovered technologies and working together to reclaim land for growing crops and raising livestock. This system would result in a greater level of codependence among the different nations, which in turn evolved into feelings of kinship among the different nations. This would give way to talk among the lower classes of integration amongst each other under a common banner, an idea initially unpopular among the ruling elite, but would slowly end up spreading its way to them as well. After many years of debate and negotiation, the year 2415 would witness the signing of the Treaty of Springfield, declaring formation of the Confederacy of Laurentia, spanning from the Gulf of California to the Gulf of Lawrence.

The flag is done in a centralized design around the Equals sign, the symbol of the ruling party of the union and how everything in the Union is organized around it.

Equalism is an ideology that is similar to communism on Earth that is combined with ultra-nationalism, juche, fascism, anti-racism, expansionism, imperialism, colonialism, and xenophobia. However it combines aspects of eugenics in order to breed out the strongest and most intelligent people. Everyone in the union is vaccinated by mandatory law. Alchohol and drug usage is strictly prohibited / enshrined in law. The leader of the party and nation, Starlight rules with an iron fist. Everyone in the union listens to her as there have been many purges that have gotten rid of all subversive elements. Indoctrination into the values of the party starts the moment a child goes to school.
It combines religion with that of the government, and there is some sort of bizarre occult based around the ideology that is the official state religion. Combine the zealousness of Imperial Japan/North Korea, the economic system of the Soviet Union, with the nationalist principles of Nazi Germany and you have the Equalist Union. Slavery of those who have done crimes, or captured enemies is state mandated. There are concentration camps, gulags, and re-education camps. In some cases, the Union will take completely contradictory actions against this ideology if it sees fit. It in short, is a theocracy based around the leaders of government taken to the fullest extent.
Brief history:
Originally founded to solve income inequality and to achieve better working conditions, it gradually grew corrupt over time and became what it is today. Started out with good intentions that paved the path to hell. It became corrupt and eroded in Starlight's megalomania and personal desires.
Technology level:
At best assumptions, they are roughly 500 years more advanced than we are today. They have access to free energy, warp drive, dimensional travel, extremely powerful laser/focused beam weaponry, sentient machinery that can outpace human thought processes by thousands of factors, magitech, and other such things. However their mentality is very 20th century, maybe even prior. They have all this access to technology, but they haven't advanced enough mentally to embrace the path of peace and co-operation. It is possible to negotiate with them, rarely. Many people are transhuman and have things like bionic eyes, bionic body parts, and the like to increase life expectancy, and improve thought process / quality of life.

They had shady affairs with other nations in the past, those such as the Sol Confederacy, Alfieq Army (nations of personal friends), and several others.

Alternate flag for Newfoundland. In the case I originally used it for, it became a US state after years of Independence. But this could be used for a lot of stuff.

I'd change the text color to white like most of the other seal-on-a-bedsheet state flags for greater legibility (and move the seal up just a tad), but yeah, we're not the most creative vexillologists here in 'Murica. Doesn't take much effort to slap on another star to the national flag every few years!
