Nazi Germany's national flag before 1939 also has a cross
Between 1933 and 1935 Nazi Germany had two national flags: the one with the Swastika (which was use until '45) and the Black-White-Red flag from the imperial era (which wasn't used anymore after 1935). I guess that you are not refering to the Swastika flag (the Swatiska is after all a kind of cross) nor the tricolour (it had no cross on it), but rather to the Reichskriegsflagge ("War flag of the Reich/Empire/Realm"), which as the name might suggest was not a national flag but the 3rd Reich's war flag.

Now why did the Reichskriegsflagge show a cross? Two reasons:
1st tradition: the imperial war flag also showed a cross as did the flaf of the Teutonic Order
2nd religion: the overwhelming majority of Nazis and Germans in generals were CHRISTIANS.

can i submit a request? i am trying to make a "alternate WWII timeline" and need a few more flags for Fascist countries. i need Iceland, Ireland, Mexico and Norway. thank you in advance!
Fascist country flags are generally the flags of the fascist movements that took over their countries; So you'd have Iceland with the National Party, Ireland would be the flag of the Blueshirts, Mexico would probably just be the Mexican flag (the Gold shirts didn't really have their own design, from what I can discern), and Norway would just be the Nasjonal Samling.

Interesting idea, but it's far too busy, the overlay of St. Georges cross and the blue white stripes aren't a good look, and the map needs to be far simpler for something like this.

I think this actually has a lot of potential; I would recommend you make the blue-white-blue stripes in each quarter even, and nix the map. If a map must be included, confine it to the canton, and simplify it.

So here's a very basic flag for a country for a mini-TL I'm working on, I'm probably going to change it, but the basic imagery will likely stay the same.

The orange represents the triple grouping of Buddhism, the country and the people while the White Lotus represents Buddhism as well as one of the central tenants of the governing ethos, namely purity (IE anti-corruption, pro-meritocracy and pro-equality).

I like the design. It is similar to soething I did a while back, here: https://www.alternatehistory.com/forum/threads/flag-thread-iii.213503/page-145#post-6070697

Reminds me of the Kalmyk flag.

Maybe get rid of the map? Otherwise the flag looks really cool. I just thought the Falklands map on it looked like an ink splot at first. Maybe change the color to red and put it in a white canton or something if the map is necessary.

About a year and a half ago Rarayn made me a great Chinese dynasty flag. Today I switched the characters on the flag to make to the "Steel" state.

You do realize this is barely any different from the actual SSR flag, right?

I actually like it. It combines a tried and true republican flag motif with a nice color palette. I think that it works pretty well without unnecessary embellishments or deviations.

Uhh... one issue, though. This is literally the same flag used for the Japanese Governor-General of Korea. Slight difference in shade, but not really much of a difference.

Fairly certain it means "steel". This is supposedly a very nationalist and authoritarian state that sees industrial development as the most important thing to do to protect China.

It means steel.
