When Judah P. Benjamin was successfully able to obtain British and French aid for the Confederacy, he turned the tide of the War of Northern Aggression. After capturing Washington D.C and forcing the Union to surrender, the C.S. annexed the Northern States. The Jefferson Plan enslaved all free coloreds in a bid for labor for reconstruction. Over 20,000 people, including Fredrick Douglass and former U.S president Abraham Lincoln fled for British North America. When the Federate government demanded the return of American coloreds, Parliament refused, and relations became chilly with their neighbor to the north.
The Federate government pursued their Manifest Destiny and slowly conquered the Latin American nations over the next fifty years, setting those nations against one another and then swooping in for the kill. The horrors of American slavery, where the government routinely pronounced immigrants slaves, and raided the african coast with impunity, fueled the appeal of socialism, which promised that all people would be equal. Stalin's Soviet Union spearheaded the Entente in the late months of World War 1 andencouraged the adoption of socialist policies in Entente nations, leading to a renewed cold war in the Americas between the C.S and "Red Canada". Supposedly to stop spies crossing the border, but in reality to stop the flow of slaves escaping to freedom in Canada, the Confederacy built fortifications across its northern border. The Cotton Curtain had descended. Meanwhile, in Europe, Germany was reinventing itself under Nazi rule. The Confederate States was partial to the Nazis, but found Hitler's ideas for a final solution wasteful, and cooperation never got farther than a neutrality pact. The CSA participated in the Pacific Theatre, however, and defeated and enslaved Japan after a pre-emptive attack on the Japanese navy. After the Entente finally defeated Germany, they were once again horrified by the CSA. The Confederacy had known about the Final Solution from the beginning, and done nothing, and then used the war as a cover to seek colonies throughout Asia. The newly-formed Summit Nations passed a universal trade embargo with the C.S. Only a few countries even did business with America. The Confederacy's few allies included its puppet regime in Liberia and South Africa. South Africa did not practice slavery , but had racist laws inspired by the "Apartness" doctrine used in Confederate Mexico to segregate the Mexican and White populations. For a while, Confederate president John F. Kennedy looked to be ready to emancipate and rejoin the rest of the world, but his assassination meant the Democrats again seized control of the government. Canada attempted to secure nuclear deterrent, but failed after it bowed to confederate pressure in the Newfoundland missile crisis.
To ease internal unrest, the CSA focused its population's attention outwards to the Middle East. In what it called the First and Second Crusades, the CSA "defended" its territory of Kuwait by conquering Iraq, and installed a friendly regime in Afghanistan. The rest of the middle east have allied themselves with the Anti-American bloc, as squabbles with neighbors seem less important in the face of the Grey Menace. If the CS attempts to invade another Middle Eastern country, the Summit Nations will declare war. The CS is already prepared to breach the Cotton Curtain and march into Canada, and Soviet Forces are massing in Kamchatka to defend the Land of the Free. World War III looks inevitable, and it will be a just war - no matter which side you're on.
