ITTL the Russian Empire collapsed faster in the face of the German military in World War I. The infamous sealed train was never sent, and Russia fell apart into civil war. Germany lost the war regardless, and communist revolutionaries took over Germany, before linking up with follow communists in former Austria-Hungary and the Netherlands. The newly founded Union of Socialist Raterepublics unified much of Eastern Europe before the French successfully crushed revolutionaries in their country and blocked the USR in the west, while Russia eventually got its act together under a White Republican government that blocked them in the east. Later the USR was on the winning side in alt-WWII.

This is a map of the USR before the Supreme Workers Rate voted to allow opposition parties, beginning the country's slide into dissolution in 2000. Like our USSR, it's divided along ethnic lines, also like our USSR those ethnic lines don't always make sense. There was no alt-Stalin, so the USR was never as bad as the USSR, but it was still an oppressive oligarchy that silenced opposition with violence.

Their official language is Esperanto however.

Very nice! But wouldn't it be more logical for the "Slavic SR" to be, well, the Serb or Yugoslav SR? Poles, Czechs, etc. are Slavs too. :)

Is the Jewish SR actually majority Jewish?
And what is a "Shwoveh?"

How "ethnically pure" are those SRs? Does Germany basically run everything, or is the federalism actually real? Do SRs get to have their own languages in addition to Esperanto? Does the USRR have an exciting system of legally binding ethnic nationalities like the USSR did? In particular, if I'm a Pole not living in the Polish SR, am I somehow at a disadvantage?

Is there any actual difference between SRs and ASRs?

Sorry for the cavalcade of questions - obviously, the map is awesome or else I wouldn't have all of them.

Another Doodle of mine.

This is a GIF of the World, with each slide having a decreasing number of countries, and each change being cumulative. I only counted the 193 UN countries for this one (so Taiwan gets to be in a weird position until it nears the end, haha).

I may try doing the opposite version of this (starting from the last map and splitting the resulting countries as many times as I feel is necessary) later.

Hey Beedok, what's up with the little (1) note above that naco presidents name but no note at the end of the text block?

Is he a RL person or something?

I was going to ask if anyone knew or had guessed where the name Polzol (or more normally spelled Pölzl) was from/referencing.

Here's something I've been working on;

Note the U.S. possesses territories and some 'extraterritorial jurisdiction' (see: Jeju Island), but these are not shown.

I'm mostly happy with how it came out, though I wish I could've found a different name for the Solomon Islands (they've had the name for over 500 years and no other names seem to exist).

The once proudly independent nations of Anglistan are today under the viceroyalty of Padishahbanu Fatima of Hindustan. The long process of the fall of Anglistan begins with the fall of the once proud hegemons of Anglistan, the Tudar Empire. Under Empress Shaarlat, the Tudars were able to expand across the island, annexing the once unattainable northern portion of Anglistan, going so far as to the top of Kambarstan (then known as Kambarland). However, these conquests drained the Tudar treasury tremendously and after Shaarlat's death, the Tudar empire began the long process of decline. A succession of weak leaders would leave the kingdom weaker, as its territory reduced more and more, and Hindustan, Cathay, and Majapahit were able to expand their trade empires to the point that much of the isle fell under their influence.

The decline of Majapahit's once great maritime empire (or rather, refocusing as it looked to the Mediterranean) led to a growth of Hindustani and Cathayan influence. The rivalry between the two nations hit a breaking point with the War of Seven Years, a war which Hindustan was able to win. As Cathay eventually fell into revolution, Hindustan looked to increase their holdings in Anglistan further, especially after a loss in prestige due to revolution breaking out in one of her colonies. However, attempts to expand into Kiltistan have ended in failure.

Anglistan would also play a role in the Cathayan Revolutionary Wars, as then-General Vang Lun was sent in an ultimately doomed attempt to conquer the Kemeti Canal in order to keep Hindustan from sending ships to its European holdings. Anglistan, however, would play little role in the Luni Wars, as most of this conflict occurred in Asia.

By 1270, Hindustan had conquered much of Anglistan. However, rule was severely threatened by the Anglistani Mutiny, at which point much of Anglistan had nearly gone independent. Perhaps a more notable rebellion was by Emperor Jaurj II of the Tudar Empire (by this point only existent in its palace in the city of Landan). Jaurj had demonstrated that even long after the Tudar Empire had fallen into disrepair, that its brand was still popular, though his rebellion was ultimately crushed by Kaunvaali troops. This marked the final end of the once proud Tudar Empire, as Jaurj was exiled to Zeestan.

In the modern era, Padishahbanu Fatima, who held an interest in the affairs of Anglistan, has looked to closen Hindustan's relationship with the island, most notably by making it a viceroyalty and giving herself the title of Maharani of Anglistan. Today, it looks like the relationship between Anglistan and Hindustan couldn't be stronger. Even as Fatima's health continues to get worse, Anglistan looks to be the crown jewel of the largest empire the world has ever seen.

I like it, you should do the opposite version.

Although I noticed something wrong..

"In the end, the Democratic Republic of Bermuda remained free from the imperialistic United Nations. It was only a matter of time before Bermuda developed nuclear weapons..."

Canadian Bermuda, Guyana, An Antilles Island, Some Lines In Saskatchewan, and the twin isles in the Hudson Bay as territories.

...Also the United States of America-In-Aleutia-And-North-Michigan, the Republic of Seychelles, São Tomé and Príncipe, the United Kingdom of Gibraltar-and-a-claimdot-in-South-Georgia, Amazonia, Micro-Colombia, A Dot In Virginia, Far West Antarctica, and the mysterious Spacefarers' Republic of 1.

That is everything, I think. Also two pixels in Botswana. Accounts for maybe 40 pixels?
