MTTA-E1 Oranje is a command-operated Multifunctional Transportation and Armaments Mech with a distinctly elephant-like build, developed in the Ivory Coast by Yves Mamadou Sarpong and Maximilian Aislinn O'Moran. It is the originating weapon of the Elephant family, differing from other members of the series by its predominantly orange color scheme.
Although the idea of war elephants is as old as time, and arming animals with top-notch weaponry has been frequently discussed among military experts, the decline of the species in the 21st century and the enforcement of notoriously strict African Union animal protection laws by bleeding-heart bureaucrats from Gaborone has forced the Houphouëtist Society of Armaments, Transportation, Energy and Mechanisms (Société Houphouëtiste des Armements, des Transports, de l'Énergie et des Mécanismes), better known as SHATEM, to bedrudgingly reject this idea. However, Côte d'Ivoire, the homeland of SHATEM, has received enormous investments from abroad, and SHATEM, being the "vanguard of Ivoirian society", benefited from it, and in 2076, SHATEM commissioned the creation of an animal-based robotic mech, specifically one large enough to overwhelm humanoid mechs, but small-enough to be inexpensive. The design was taken up by two young engineers, Yves Sarpong and Maxime O'Moran.
Sarpong and O'Moran were best friends, despite their radically different backgrounds; Sarpong, though Akan by ethnicity, was a third-generation Ghanaian immigrant, historically working as a taxi driver, while O'Moran was an Irish-French comics writer, born to Protestant minister Rory O'Moran and Bedelia Corne, a revolutionary chemist in both senses of the word. According to their coworker, Seydou Niangoran, Sarpong and O'Moran originally wanted to give the mech a different name, as both men were huge Babar enthusiasts, but their employer and supervisor, South African businessman and future mayor of Orania Franklin Botha persuaded them to name the mech Oranje.
Oranje has seen a lot of use in Africa and beyond. Hundreds of Oranjes were deployed to put down dissent in Mauritania, and the march of the robotic elephants was an integral part of the Fourth Azawad War, the Ugandan Civil War (also known as the War of the Honorable Way) and the Mauritanian-Malian War. Since then, however, Oranjes have been used primarily in general transportation, with countless loxodontine mechs walking across Sahara and the Silk Path, though certain Oranjes are still used in battle, scouring the Australian outback and fighting the Elysian bloodrunners on Mars. Sarpong and O'Moran's creation has been applauded by countless people around the world, with Sarpong in particular being awarded the highest state order of knighthood in the Ivory Coast; O'Moran would settle down in Bismarck with his beloved Winona Harris, though he would be assassinated by an unidentified killer in 2097.

The 2053 Lewis and Clark attack was the catastrophic deorbit of the Lewis and Clark space station carried out by the Martian League terrorist group against the United States on December 19, 2053. The Lewis and Clark was, at the time, the fifth-most populous extraterrestrial city in the Solar System and the fourth-most populous space station. It acted as a hub for all commercial and scientific traffic between the United States on Earth and its extraterrestrial territories. At 12:14 UTC, an unidentified spacecraft achieved rendezvous with the Lewis and Clark and used an onboard claw to grab hold of the space station. Then, the spacecraft burned its engines in a retrograde direction for nearly three hours, slowing the Lewis and Clark to the point where it was unable to maintain orbital velocity. In total all 18,490 residents were killed, as well as one attacker.
The attackers' spacecraft splashed down in the Pacific Ocean 49 kilometers east of Hokkaido, Japan. One of the attackers, Alexandra Boughton, was trapped underneath the spacecraft and drowned. Shortly afterward, the three remaining perpetrators were arrested by the Japanese Coast Guard and then extradited to the United States, where they revealed the location of 18 others involved in the planning of the attack. The 21 attackers pled guilty to all charges and were sentenced to death via lethal injection.
The attack was the immediate cause of the First Martian War, the armed conflict between the United States government and the Martian League. Furthermore, the attack led to the enactment of a number of reforms in space station safety practices and the expansion of the police presence on American extraterrestrial colonies. The International Lewis and Clark Memorial began construction in Kushiro, Japan in 2057 and is expected to open to the public by the end of 2063.
The First Martian War (2054–2060), also known as the First Interplanetary War and the Martian Civil War, was a protracted armed conflict between the United States government and the Martian League, an insurgent organization founded two years prior.
Following the 2053 Lewis and Clark terrorist attack, President Allen Cassidy announced an anti-terror campaign targeted at the Martian territories of the United States. In response, Martian League leader Cedric E. Gabel released the New Years' Day Declaration, which announced an open state of war against the US government. The Martian League then launched Operation Red Dawn, in which commandeered spacecraft engaged in the kinetic bombardment of major US cities. The US government initially had no way to effectively respond to the attacks, as the US Air Force Space Corps consisted of only a handful of police officers at the time.
As the war progressed, the newly-formed US Space Corps pioneered many of the earliest methods of conducting warfare in space, and by the end of the war was the first fully-formed space force in history. The unique environments that the Space Corps operated in presented numerous difficulties to military strategists, and nearly 300 astrophysicists were recruited in order to help the Space Corps deal with the dangers involved.
While the Lewis and Clark attack was the immediate cause of the war, civil unrest had plagued American interstellar colonies for years prior. Settlers were often ill-equipped to deal with the unfamiliar environment, and fatalities were frequent due to poor safety conditions and workplace accidents. The territories, many of them under the management of private entities, skirted federal labor and safety regulations, leading to a number of worker abuses. While there were several legislative efforts to reform the management of the interplanetary territories, most notably the Extraterrestrial Settlement Act of 2047, none of them managed to pass both houses of Congress.
The war ended in November 2060 with the surrender of the last remnants of the Martian League in the George Washington Outpost. Following the end of hostilities, leaders of the Martian League and the Lunar Alliance (the League's sister organization on the Moon) were sentenced to execution via lethal injection by a military court, but a stay of execution has been ordered by the District Court of the Extraterrestrial Territories. The ruling was controversial within the United States, as humanitarian groups and activists questioned the fairness of the proceedings. A Special Counsel investigation into possible violations of the Constitution during the trial is ongoing, led by Former Attorney General Eva Foster.

After dealing with almost a decade of the Conservative Party rule in Plata led by PM Pedro Aramburu, the sour relations with Latin American neighbors such as Chile and Brazil was getting worse under Aramburu's second term. During his second term he often blamed that Brazil was very responsible for sending in Marxist spies disguised as refugees escaping from Brazil's harsh regime.
Relations with other Commonwealth nations on the other hand have somewhat improved especially with Australia, seeing that both nations formerly apart of the British Empire shall rely on each other for being both located in the Southern Hemisphere. However relations with South Africa was often seen as a rarity, during Aramburu's two terms in official he absolutely hated the racist government that led South Africa and often was vocal on how he wishes to see the natives get equality. However many Aramburu's opponents especially Arthur Illia saw it being ironic due to the fact Aramburu was very controversial with the policies of the First Platans. Especially since First Platans often were still segregated by where they lived, however Aramburu was keen on getting rid of public segregation of them allowing them to work and interact with White Platans and Hispanic Platans.
He also had come under heavy criticism for his actions when it came to the relations between Anglo-Platans and Hispaniplatans (Spanish-speaking Platans), seeing that there would always be a great divide between those who spoke Spanish and those who spoke English. Aramburu also was very criticized for not helping and recognizing the Hispanic populations of the provinces of Santa Clara, La Rioja, Cordoba, Santa Fe, Juluy, and Chaco, as well as not even recognizing the growing majority of the Anglospanish people (people mixed with Anglo and Spanish ancestry).
As for Aramburu's policy on communism, he often feared the possibility of Chile or Brazil spreading communism into Plata and often paid heavy attention towards Angola and Mozambique becoming independent communist states from Portugal, in which he feared would create a domino effect in Africa and Latin America.
However Aramburu was faced with many difficulties especially with the struggling economy of Plata which was still recovering from World War II, and growing distance between Britain and Plata.
As a result his days were over being prime minister of Plata, and by numbers the Conservative Party of Plata were decreasing in parliament while some broke away becoming apart of Peron's National Party. As a result unsurprisingly this led to Platan Democrat Party and the Liberal Party of Plata forming a strong coalition lead by none other than Arthur Illia himself who saw better future for Plata.
As a result Aramburu lost and retired from politics shortly after and Arthur Illia became the new prime minister of Plata.
And his goals for Plata would guide the nation to a better path by getting rid of South America Policy, complete end for segregation of First Platans, increasing relations with other Commonwealth nations as well as Britain, and forming a strong friendship with the US.

An alternative interpretation of magic in a universe that has "magic" but analyzes it as science. They still use Gothic architecture for university Departments of Sympathetics on occasion, but because they see Gothic architecture as "transcending" classical architecture in the same ed: way that "Gothic science" transcends classical science. Could be in the Age of Civs universe (where a lot of quantum weirdness creates an overall medieval fantasy ambiance) or an alternate Harry Potter universe. So instead of wizards you have scientists in lab coats and instead of Latinate spells ("Wingardium leviosa!") you have physicists carefully analyzing the frequencies and sounds necessary to get an object to levitate.

The ugly: Eccleston's reported dislike of revisiting roles might make TTL's 50th Anniversary special even more of a headache for the writers given that the only ATL NuWho Doctors at that point in time would be him and Tovey (assuming he does the standard three season run).
Also, I'm 90% sure that TTL!Ten's first words upon seeing his reflection would be, "Well, at least the ears remained the same."
