Hail, Britannia

In an overwhelming landslide, the Christian Democratic Party voted to retain Prime Minister David Dewhurst by a margin of more than two-to-one. Representative Dan Patrick, his challenger, will be "returning to the backbenches with his tail between his legs," as one Dewhurst supporter stated. However, even this is not a total win for the Prime Minister - already three members of his caucus have announced plans to defect from the CDP to the right-wing National Renewal Party, and several more are reportedly planning to do so. With Dewhurst's majority cut to nine members, millions of Texans are watching the latest news from Austin...

Truly a dystopia world you have here.
Disgusting.
Indeed - there are still countries that cling to the right-hand traffic heresy! :winkytongue:
Begin the Purge of RHT Countries
Oh how the tables have turned.

:p This is perhaps my favourite part of this timeline.

What does the rebuilt World Trade Center look like? Rebuilt Twin Towers? Freedom Tower? Two Freedom Towers?

Much as OTL. One World Trade Centre is called "Imperial Tower" or "Frederick's Tower", and is only 1,751 feet tall, to represent the year Frederick I ascended to the throne.

Oh shit, you realize what you've done right? With TTL 9/11 having much higher casualties-including striking the seat of government-the outrage will make the reaction to OTL 9/11 look like a spring breeze. Bush may have a harder time trying to be conciliatory towards Islam.

While you may be partly correct, a big change from OTL is the existence of a “Caliph of Islam” who rules a neutral, less theocratic and relatively progressive state in the Middle East. Also the Saudis are nowhere near as wealthy or powerful, and so Wahabbism and more extreme versions of Islam are less widespread.

Britain ITTL also has large Muslim population, and voted to admit a country with a large Muslim population (Sierra Leone). “European Islam” and “British Islam” are therefore more mainstream ideals.

Abdullah III (OTL Abdullah II of Jordan), is the King of the Hashemite Federation of the Mashriq and Hejaz, Caliph of Islam and Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques. He used his position, and moral authority over Muslims worldwide, to very publicly condemn the attacks and called on Muslims to oppose radicals and terrorists. The Indian Prime Minister, himself a Muslim, made similar statements, as did other major Muslim leaders like the Shah of Iran and the King of Egypt.

So although the attacks were “worse”, the more vocal response from moderate Muslim leaders condemning them, softens some of the extremes.

Shouldn't it be 9/9 then?:p

Whoops, thanks for catching that.

Also, wouldn't there be an emergency election to replace the MIPs killed in the alt-9/11 attacks?

IOTL Parliament does not appear to have been in session when the attack took place, and was recalled to debate it later in the week. I would assume that to be the case ITTL, meaning that deaths in the Palace of Westminster would be significantly less than if Parliament had been sitting.

No definite idea on which MIPs were killed, but there would be by-elections held for each vacant seat like any other death in office.

That's gonna provide a lot of fodder for conspiracy theorists.

Good point, mostly just the prestige of having the parliament building having been mostly destroyed. I would guess they, like the Jo Cox by-election IOTL, all the other main parties wouldn't stand candidates for any of them out of respect for their fallen MIP, so the party that held it before, retains the seat.

You think that would give the folks in Al-Qaeda pause.

That's exactly what happened. The elections themselves were very sombre affairs, reflecting the national mood.

So Texas still uses the month/day/year format?

Yep, and it's the only country on the planet that does.

You think that would give the folks in Al-Qaeda pause.
Why? Clearly they are all stooges of the Imperialist Satan of the Colonialist West. If anything, it would probably make them push even harder in response.

Exactly. Even IOTL many Muslim leaders condemned the attacks, and that didn't stop Al-Qaeda in the slightest.

So to get me back into the swing of things, here goes (credit to @Turquoise Blue for the Labour party candidates):

BBC News Brief - Weekly Round Up

- British Prime Minister Sylvia Lim (Social Democrat) met with her French counterpart, Ségolène Royal (Socialist), this week to discuss, amongst other things, the Franco-British Alliance, the ongoing conflict in West Africa, the accession of Accra to the United Empire, and the Breton independence movement. The meeting came at the start of a five-day working trip across Europe and Scandinavia, and ended with both prime ministers issuing a joint statement in support of the alliance between the two countries, as well as the rights of people to self-determination. Lim also visited Savoian Prime Minister Ignazio Marino (PSL) in Milan, where they discussed the Mediterranean migrant crisis, and held high-level talks with European Commission President Angela Merkel (European People's) in Saarbrücken, before travelling to Gothenburg to meet with Nordic Chancellor Jyrki Katainen (Nordic People's).

- Dominion Secretary Justin Trudeau, 2nd Earl of Saint-Rémi, (Liberal) has been in Accra this week to begin formal negotiations with the Accran government on their country's accession to the United Empire. The State of Accra, a Commonwealth realm in West Africa, voted by a majority of 20% in favour of joining the Empire in a referendum in January but progress has been slow, with the High Commissioner in London having unofficial talks with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office for the last two months. Trudeau's presence in the country suggests a high level of support within the government for Accra joining the Empire. Accran Prime Minister Catherine Afeku (Liberal) has welcomed the cross-party delegation to the capital Victoriaborg, and in a speech on Thursday said she looked forward to "productive talks" and hoped that Accra would be ready to join the Empire in March 2019, only sixty-two years after it gained independence.

- First Minister of Virginia Joe Manchin (Labour) has announced that he will step down as leader of the Labour Party of Virginia when a new leader is elected at the party conference in August. Manchin, who has led the party since 2010, having previously served in the governments of Douglas Wilder and Steve Beshear, and has been First Minister since the 2012 election, has yet to confirm the reason for his resignation, but many pundits and party insiders believe he has either been offered a place on SDP party list at the upcoming imperial election, or that he will be nominated as an Imperial Councillor from Virginia to replace Ken Lucas, Baron Lucas of Crossroads, when he retires on 22 August at the mandatory age of 85. Several members of the party have already confirmed their intention to stand in the election, including Ralph Northram (Virginia Minister for Health, and MGA for Eastern Shore), Tom Perriello (MGA for Alexandria), Richard Ojeda (List MGA), and Alison Lundergan Grimes (MGA for West Richmond—Elkhorn).

- The Prince and Princess of Appalachia welcomed their third child on Monday this week. Prince Louis Arthur Charles is the fifth in line to the British and Commonwealth thrones, after the change in succession law in 2013. His sister, Princess Charlotte, is the first female member of the British Imperial and Royal Family to not lose her place in the line of succession due to the birth of a younger brother. William's brother, Prince Harry, who is due to marry the Anglo-Californian actress Meghan Markle on 19 May, is said to be "ecstatic" at his new position in the line of succession.

You mean 62 right? Accra became independent in 1957.

A merger of the mandate of New Guinea and the territory of Papua, just as OTL. I’m tempted to merge it with West Papua, but haven’t decided on that just yet.

A lot of Southeast Asia is similar to OTL, but there are a few key differences; independent Aceh and Sarawak, surviving Sultanate of Sulu, also the dark green state is East Sunda, a former Portuguese territory in personal union with Portugal.

I was wondering what is the status of Vietnam and Korea ITTL?
