Also called The Empire of Durham, this is a blob inbetween Yorkshire and Northumberland which was once famous for Bishops, then for coal, now for Leej. And that's about it. The only reason to rationally go into Coounty Durham is to get to the other side - it being one of the few paths to the north, the other being Cumbria.
