Units under SS-Standartenführer Klaus Barbie
seize key civilian and military checkpoints throughout the city of Danzig during the opening thralls of the SS Civil War
(1966-1968). Following the victory of Reinhard Heydrich in the German Civil War
(1963-1965), Klaus Barbie was assigned to monitor Heydrich from Danzing under direct order from Burgundy. When Heydrich took action against Himmler upon his discovery of Operation Ragnarök
, Barbie and his legions were well prepared to seize the port city as a base of Burgundian support in East Prussia.
Pro-Heydrich forces loyal to Herbert Otto Gille
battle with Klaus Barbie’s pro-Himmler units during the Danzig Engagement
(June 1967). The sudden collapse of German central authority outside of Germania following the start of the civil war, along with the more intense and resource consuming Rhenish Front
(the battles between the loyal Heydrich states west of Germania and Himmler’s puppets in Westphalia and Alsace) , sometimes forced units to utilize vintage heavy equipment and vehicles. Herbert ultimately won the day. Himmler lost his eyes and ears in East Prussia after Barbie committed suicide with a cyanide pill and a pistol in his safehouse following the fall of the city.
