Peshawar Lancers Redux: Kingdom of Hawaii Revised

Prime Minister Burns had now created an enemy in the Empire of the Rising Sun. Even though he had backtracked the Empire no longer felt that Hawaii under Mr Burns was balanced. The Empire's Ambassador had a meeting with the Minority leader and the Republic of China also decided to met with her. Thus it was the leader of the Loyal opposition that repaired the damage. The King asked former Prime Minister George W Kamehameha to carry out a special trip to the Empire and the Republic of China. With him was his nephews
son Christopher Kamehameha II. He had graduated from High school and would be starting college in the fall. He was asked by his Uncle to act as one of his aids

The Prime Minister had learned that a former Prime Minister had been sent by the King on a mission to the far East. He was not happy about the King attempting an end run around his foreign policy. There was an argument during a meeting with the King and it became heated. As a result the Prime Minister began the process of moving the proposal for a direct election of the Prime Minister forward.

A special Meeting took place at the Headquarters of the Royal Hawaiian Intelligence Agency.. Present were the Commissioner of Police of the Royal Hawaiian Constabulary Timothy O Rourke, The Director of the Royal Hawaiian Secret Service George Manola and the Attorney General. Vice Admiral Christoper Kamehameha then presented a shocking report indicating that there was a serious threat to the life of the Prime Minister. His recent actions regarding Foreign Policy had moved away from traditional Hawaiian Positions and caused extremist groups to take actions. He recommended increasing the Prime Ministers security detail. The Director of the Secret Service responded that the PM would reject the additional manpower. The Attorney General then stated that he would speak to the PM and stress the need for it.

Prime Minister Burns was shot and in critical Condition. The Royal Hawaiian Constabulary had 6 plainclothes officers who were able to intervene and prevent the death of the Prime Minister. Attorney General William S Richardson was named as acting Prime Minister.
He Cancelled the Vote on the Direct Election of the Prime Minister and Issued a State Of National Emergency. The Prime Minister Burns was taken to a Military Hospital and security was upgraded. In a briefing the doctors of Mr Burns informed the acting Prime Minister that things were critical and Mr Burns could die. He would definitely be unable to resume holding the office.

Prime Minister William S Richardson was very concern when he learned that his depressor had order the commitment of a large amount of the Royal Hawaiian Armed forces to aid the Philippines. There were nearly 75,000 members of the Hawaiian Military in the country aiding the Armed forces in putting down an insurgency. Prime Minister Richardson called a meeting of the National Security Council to demand an explanation. He then was informed by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs that they had raised a serious question over the dispatch of so many personnel.

Vice Admiral Christopher Kamehameha director of the Royal Hawaii Intelligence Agency informed the group that there was an Insurgency also in the Netherlands East Indies and that Australia and New Zealand had dispatched troops and support to aid the Dutch. The United States was very concern about the matter and President Reagan had offered help but Prime Minister Burns had not accepted. In addition the Empire of the Rising Sun had offered to help and the Dutch were considering the offer.

Prime Minister Richardson was shocked but even more so when he was informed that another 25,000 troops had been promised to the Philippines.. He ordered that NO more troops were to be sent without the approval from him.He went to the King and asked that new elections be held. He explained that he was holding talks with the National Conservative leader about forming a government of National Unity. The King approved and the election was to take place in 3 weeks.

The leaders of the two political parties held talks about forming a government of National Unity Polls indicated the the Liberal Democratic Party had lost ground and was unlikely to form a Majority Government. Forming an alliance with the Social Democrats was unlikely to work thus unless the party won a Majority it would have to accept terms with the National Conservatives. The party winning the Most seats would hold the post of Prime Minister and the Other Party would hold the Deputy Prime Minister.
. The Election resulted in 240 Liberal Democrat held seats, 240 National Conservative held Seats and 19 Social Democrat held seats. One seat was the subject of a recount. Prime Minister Richardson then offered the following for the Liberal Democrats to hold the Prime Ministers post for the next year and then a switch.

The conflict in the Philippines was causing problems for the Liberal Democratic Party but Prime Minister Richardson thought that it was important to stay the course. The Hawaiian, Philippine, Rising Sun and US were united in a determination to win. . By 1974 the Republic of the Philippines' Army was now fully capable of handing the mop up of the insurgency. The Cost had been high The Empire of the Rising Sun had lost 540 soldiers killed in Combat and 1900 wounded, The Royal Hawaiian Armed forces had lost 279 Killed and 1200 wounded. The Republic of the Philippines army and Marine Corp suffered 890 KIA and 3,000 WIA. Enemy dead was listed as 3,000 KIA and 6,000 WIA?POW.
In 1975 Prime Minister Richardson called for a new election after 19 members of his party defected to the Social Democrat. Nearly 15,000 Hawaiian troops returned to the Kingdom and were met by His Majesty

The Election of 1975 was the nastiest election in the History of the Kingdom. Some members of the Social Democratic Party declared that the Liberal Democrat Party was responsible for the death of Hawaiian Soldiers and was conducting an unauthorized War. The end result was that the Public turned to the National Conservatives and gave Mrs Gleason's party 262 seats. The Liberal Democrats won 208 and the social Democrats lost 9 seats. With a clear Majority Mrs Gleason did not have to form a government of National unity. Appointed to the Assistant Secretary of Defense was Richard E Nufero son of the former Secretary of State.

Prime Minister Anne E Gleason now prepared to appoint new people to the cabinet post. She spoke with members of the Liberal Democrat Party which held the cabinet post. She informed the Secretary of Defense that she would be appointinting someone new to the position as the department needed a fresh start.. The Army Chief of Staff was retiring as was the head of the Royal Hawaiian Marine Corp. She had spoken to her cousin Admiral William Kamehameha and had urged him to accept another appointment as Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff. He had agreed and would provide guidance on the new appointments.

Mrs Gleason named a new Secretary of the Treasury Gregory Bishop, who had served as the CEO of the largest Credit Union in the country. Also named as Secretary of Defense was George Latent. Mr Latent was know as someone who wanted to rebuild the military and was very much a man who would oppose those on the left. She had approached Charles B. Kamehameha III to serve as the Secretary of Commerce but he had declined the offer stating that he preferred to work on overhauling the bank rather than government service. Former Prime Minister William S Richardson was named as a Special Prosecutor to handling a case coming out of the war. It dealt with those that were attempting to damage the military's ability to fight the war. The former Prime Minister had lobbied for the job.

Young Christopher Kamehameha having graduated from College and obtained a teaching position he was studying books dating from the late 1850s on concerning the History of the Kingdom of Hawaii leading to the critical period of The Fall.
