I've been thinking about the fact that there is no WWII and no mass murder of Jews in this timeline. I've read a lot of alternate history before and I notice that a lot of alternate history that takes place in the present day always has a past with Nazis and all the destruction they caused. I went on google the 9ther day and typed in what if the Nazis never existed and found nearly nothing.
I think it may possibly be a coping mechanism that we have always assumed that the rise of the Nazis and the ultimate suffering that they brought to the world was always inevitable. To imagine another world could exist I've suddenly become struck with how tragic it was. Just imagining all those souls that suffered and died in our world and the people they left behind suffering in their absence, and now in this world they did not suffer, they did not die; they lived, they loved, they grew old, they made families.
I dont mean to depress the thread but when you imagine how a different world could have been possible you get an understanding for how tragic our world turned into.
As TV Tropes says, sometimes Humans are the Real Monsters. Humanity is capable of amazing and beautiful things, but also capable of war and nightmares. That is what makes us unique from all other creatures.
