60 to 75 degrees south, to a virgin earth
The escape from Antarctica in the first months was desperate, every ship and plane was used to the fullest potential. The Various nations with bases on the continent all worked together to escape the frozen continent, but upon accomplishing their escape, quickly devolved into tribes, which largely fell under national lines. The first conflict was when some Argentines stole fishing grounds from the Bulgarians. Since then, man has lived in a basal state, tribal and warlike, slowly spreading out to resettle the earth. Most bases were on the antarctic peninsula, which had the easiest time escaping to the mainland of South America. Spanish speakers are by far the most numerous, but are also divided in on themselves. other prominent tribes include the Americans, British, Russians, Scandinavians, Germans, Russians, Poles, Bulgarians, Koreans, Ukrainians, and Chinese.
On the other side of the continent, Australians, Russians, Japanese, Italians and French managed to make the escape to Australia. The Australians and Russians war frequently over territory, and the French and Japanese, much less numerous than the other two, will swap sides often, but generally the French side with the Russians, and the Japanese with the Ozzies. And the Italians are a true wildcard.
A South African and Russian Station, stuck at inconvenient locations to go to either America or Australia, went to South Africa instead. The Smallest in number of all the escaping groups they have spread out the least, and because their population was so small, they have grown inbred. their populations are going down, and they may be extinct within the next century or two.
Despite everything, man persists, and will inherit the earth once again. It is a long time away, thousands upon thousands of years out, but it will happen eventually. Already there are some precursors to restoring agriculture in some Patagonian river valleys, and the French in the Murray-Darling are already almost there.
