For those who are aware of my "Punk-Time" list project, I've decided to have a map for the unashamedly-punk world it is set in, a world of undead mummies in long-abandoned pyramids, bear-riding Russian cavalry, mad steampunk inventors in the 1890s and sneaky cyberpunk hackers in a grim 1980s, a world that is basically "take our world, now take it to absurdity".
The base map for this was created by
@Imperator Frank for his project and used with permission and I emphasise that the world he is creating is wholly different from "Punk-Time" and should not be confused with it.
The (still heavily-WIP) map here is of Hennodia, the general Europe-equivalent. As you can see, there's a fair few "equivalents" here, but also some oddities. The setting is just before the WWI-equivalent.
Pink: Unified Realm of Azalaia and Narsenia
The land of Celtic-y-pagan-deities-worshipping tophat-wearing gentlemen and ladies that say "How do you do?" and sip tea before cycling to the local temple for their druid to give a sermon and give a sacrifice to the Gods.
Of course, this is a bit of an exaggeration, with there being a large and increasingly-politically-active working-class [the Radical Party is on 27 seats after all] and especially in Lundain, not everybody worships the Pantheon.
Blue: Gallican Commonwealth
Heavily proud of their commonwealth and of their democratic heritage, they have a long rivalry with Azalaia [seeing them as backwards], but due to the rising Teutonic threat, they have entered into an alliance.
The alliance is a bit difficult, given the two were at war barely a decade ago, but the threat of Teutonia has let bygones be bygones. At least until the threat has subdued.
Grey: Teutonic Imperium
A land of very dark humour and a tendency towards authoritarianism and militarism, its people nevertheless are praised even by Azalaians and Gallicans for terrifying efficiency. Their beer and sausages [
frankenwuert] are distinctively Teutonic in the mind of other Hennodian states and especially in the Allied States of Lagellania where Teutonic-Lagellians hold
Novambeirfests in honor of their Teutonic heritage.
Currently, they're seen as the most likely spark for the wholly-feared "Great Hennodian War" where steam machines will clash with other steam machines in a fight to the death for dominance of the continent.
Orange: Kingdom of Gelderland
If you ask an Azalaian or a Lagellian what they associate with Gelderland, they'll say canals or rowboats or windmills or wooden shoes. All of those exist in Gelderland, but also existing there is the legacy of a clever inventor by the name of Samuel van der Coompuist, who has invented the first combustion engine. Gelderland is very much an "odd one out" in a continent dominated by steam, as it has embraced "diesel" strongly.
Green: Kingdom of Estalia
Once the heart of a huge Empire [the Reman Imperium], it is now a small kingdom noted for its oddly-string-shaped food and for this novelty known as "pessa". Never will catch on, unfortunately. It has thrown its hat in with Teutonia and Moskraya in the increasingly division of Hennodia in two camps bitterly opposed to each other. Much like Teutonia, it has a vocal emigrant community in Lagellania proud of their heritage.
Brown: Knightly Order of Saint Rudolph (Barleia)
What do you get if you mix North-Garudian and South-Hennodian cultures together with a band of knights on a somewhat-isolated island? You get Barleia, a rather weird country truth be told. The Knights has been governing it for centuries, and so far they seem to be secure in power those days. Still, never say never.
Blue-Grey: Halvestian Confederacy
A somewhat-bipolar country, truth be told. In North-West Halvestia, they speak a Teutonic dialect and tend to be more of the "build/make-your-own" mentality, including clocks, knives, cheese, you name it. All of those, when not used, tends to make their way down-slope to South-East Halvestia where their biggest city is. It's a trade hub and is one of the most popular places for bored and wealthy Hennodian teens to go to, for it is noted as one of the most extensive marketplaces where traders ply their wares here. In the South-East, they speak a Hellenic dialect, a legacy of the days where Tyzanbium once ruled it.
Out of necessity [given they border it], they make nice with the Tyzanbine Empire and remain steadfastly neutral.
