Here's my unintentionally thematically similar to the amazing map ToixStory just posted rendition of one of my favorite AH tropes, the Confederacy winning the Civil War and then getting overthrown by a communist revolution. The revolutionaries have moved the capital from bourgeois Richmond to proletarian Atlanta, renamed the states previously burdened with backward feudalist names, and granted previously oppressed peoples their own homelands, and now look to reclaim the traitors of the so-called "Republic of Texas" and spread the glorious People's Revolution to the cruel capitalist North.

I do love how an idea for a novel I spit-balled has become a trope now :D

Cool map btw - the NARs are a very nice touch.

I'd be really interested to see some kind of TL where instead of an independent Confederacy becoming some sort of communist state via authorial wish-fulfillment, it instead implodes into a slave revolt that leaves it some kind of unholy cross between Haiti and Zimbabwe.

At least in my case, its not wish-fulfillment - I saw it as the end of the road for most of the agrarian aristocratic states with high wealth disparity, like Czarist Russia. And I never make any bones about the fact my CSSA is an oppressive dictatorship.

I do however, like using it as a chance to showcase some of the odder bits of southern culture - such as how the term "Redneck" came about from the red bandannas of labor unions, which in my stories, carries the same connotations that bolshevik does in OTL.

I didn't mean to imply that about your very well done map-- I was just making a generalized comment that I seem to be noticing a lot more "communist Confederacy" maps in recent months, which is strange. Calling it "wish fulfillment" wasn't intended as a positive statement either. I always had a strange sense that the trope of having an independent Confederacy become a communist state was motivated by a TL writer's desire to "get back at" Lost Causers and the like by turning a Confederate victory in the ACW back around on them. This may be reading too much into it, but Communist Confederacy maps always struck me as vaguely spiteful in tone.

Nothing against your map or TL. In fact, I think Confederacies look a lot better without Texas attached. :)

I'm interested to know why exactly this is one of your favorite tropes. Do you think you could explain it?

Just to point out, the map is @Keperry

Mine is a bit different - border at the Mississippi River, Virginia was retaken by the US, New Orleans is effectively an independent city-state, and nobody is quite sure who owns Florida.

Don't get me wrong, part of the motivation I had originally was to despoil any of the teary eyed nostalgia some may have for the CSA - but I do my best to keep things pretty realistically grounded, not rooted in spite. Also, to poke fun at the typical CSA wins tropes - the invasion of Cuba is a miserable failure, Robert E. Lee dies homeless and forsaken by Confederate leadership as soon word on his "abolitionist sympathies" get out, and the USA completely mops the floor with the CSA in the genre demanded WW1 rematch, to name a few. I'm a born Southerner myself, albeit a Yankee in all but birth.

Here is a map depicting Buddhist countries in a world where said religion spread differently. Also showcasing my crude Inkscape skills.

Morbid curiosity, have any of your stories been put out for people to read yet? I'd love to think I just missed the memo as I've wanted to look deeper into the world you created since I first stumbled upon it.

Shopping around a couple short stories, finding markets for AH short stories is something I'm struggling with.

I also have a novel I'm working on. I attended a face-to-face slushpile meeting with one of the editors from Baen Books, where we had to bring the first chapter and a 4 page summary of the novel. He liked them both, and said had it been a full manuscript, he would have kept reading.

You forgot the Virginian bit of the Delmarva :p

But amazing map! I love the idea, even if it is a tad cliche

Before I post this, are Europa Universalis game maps fine? I didn't really make it since I simply saved the map from an observer game I ran, but I find writing a backstory for the map quite interesting. And yes, there will be some border gore, though as an earlier save, I can guarantee it's still won't be as bad as later on.
As a fairly longtime lurker I seem to recall images of games have been occasionally contentious but generally accepted.

I adjusted the color, let me know what you think.
I approve. Anything to keep the dastardly Danes from getting a swollen head. Blus this shade of blue looks like a good compromise between the Scottish, Swedish, and Danish shades. Novgorod the orange country here?

Please tell me Delmarvan Virginia is a part of West Virginia here.
