I threw together this map of the Sinnoh Region in Pokemon to highlight an alternate story-mode route around the island for a fanfic I might write. The concept is kind of a 'sequel' to the game Pokemon Platinum. As you can see you start in Celestic Town. The red line indicates the main story-mode route. The lavendar squares are cities with gyms; the yellow-green squares are towns; burnt orange are cities without gyms. The yellow squares at the end represent the Pokemon League (now located on Stark Mountain).

The big green square is the Eterna Forest, the big blue squares are lakes/lakefronts, the red bit in the middle is Mt Coronet, and the orange/blue paths represent land-based/water-based routes.

This is like Hoenn where you get to go on a boat. And Canclave is a post game area?

Commissioned by The Great War online video series.

Operation Hush was a British plan to amphibiously land on the Belgian coast. The operation was however cancelled due to combat on other fronts.

Well, I kind of imagined you'd get a ride-pager with a Lapras like in the Gen VII games. One thing I liked about Sun/Moon is that it removed the need for HMs and opened your party up to Pokemon you wanted rather than Pokemon you needed. Canalave would be a post-game area, but I also considered making it an in-game area where you learn about mega-evolution. So you'd go to Sandgem, talk to Professor Rowan, he'd give you the mega-stone for your starter, and then send you off to Canalave to meet someone who would take you to Iron Island to meet someone else (maybe Byron since he isn't a gym leader anymore).

I'm still working out all the details.

Suggestions for a couple more ride-Pokémon: Cut Scyther, Waterfall Milotic/Seaking, and Dive Huntail.

My attempt at a plausibly utopic world:

POD: In 1769, Burke's OTL interest in the American colonies issue leads him to take the initiative in brokering a settlement to the issue, consisting of a personal union between Great Britain, Ireland, Canada, Newfoundland, Bermuda, and the thirteen colonies. For the time being, each can set its own religious and slave policy. They remain loyal to the King but are placed in a similar arrangement to that of Ireland and pre-union Scotland.

1770s - Burke is hailed a hero for defusing the American crisis. He eventually becomes PM for one term before stepping down to focus on reforming the East India Company and curbing the worst excesses of colonialism.

1780s - He continues his OTL endeavors in cleaning up the East India Company along "Burkean" conservative lines, with the Company working with native leaders and customs and seeking reform instead of revolution. His "India Experiment" is later replicated in Sierra Leone with only slightly worse results, and Sierra Leone becomes known as the Jewel of Africa for its literacy and infrastructure.

1790s - The King of France is deposed for his incompetence and a constitutional monarchy is established, with his young son as king and the new king's uncle as regent. The so-called French Revolution marks the beginning of the spread of liberal democracy and constitutional monarchy in continental Europe; the generally orderly transition results in many kings and queens agreeing to better representation of the people. By Burke's death, he has cemented his legacy throughout the empire. The Maryland Parliament votes to emancipates Catholics and Jews; Catholic and Jewish businessmen flock to Baltimore. Sierra Leone is elevated into personal union in 1799 because of a large class of literate mixed-race, African-American, and Afro-Caribbean businessmen.

1800s - The slavery issue comes to a head for the first time as a coalition of GB, the six northern colonies (New England, NY, and NJ - Maine and Vermont are both merged into New Hampshire for ease of administration), Canada, and Newfoundland call for the importation of new slaves to be abolished. Georgia, the Carolinas, Virginia, and several of the West Indies object. A compromise is reached whereby the new importation of slaves is banned and the use of indentured servants, who can be placed on a path to British citizenship once they are literate and conforming to western values (the standards required to vote in India and Sierra Leone), is accelerated. In addition, the rights of free blacks and Native Americans who pass the India and Sierra Leone tests are guaranteed.

19th Century - The India Experiment replaces chattel slavery and colonial repression as the primary way of dealing with non-western peoples. Instead of "divide and rule", there is emphasis within the European powers on creating new workable realms and dominions. At the same time, Burkean reforms gradually seep throughout Europe. The first democratic republic emerges by accident along the lines of the French Third Republic due to a succession crisis in a constitutional monarchy. The Holy Roman Empire reforms into a commonwealth of independent principalities and eventually into a federal state, with Bismarck's establishment of universal healthcare and an early welfare state as one carrot to lure in wayward principalities. Slavery is abolished worldwide by the 1850s and is replaced with indentured servitude; South Carolina and Georgia (which stretches to the Mississippi) are approximately 35% Asian as of 2017. Although there is a high level of cultural discrimination, racism gradually abates due to the increasing numbers of successful black- and Asian-majority realms, and religious tolerance gradually expands because of the prosperity of tolerant realms such as Maryland and the Netherlands. Most revolutionary ideologies (communism, fascism, etc) never take hold or are integrated into a Burkean framework.

20th Century - Europe and its colonies continue to liberalize, with significant improvements in the rights of women and minorities occurring gradually. There is a continued expansion of industry and the welfare state, but it's tempered by concerns over radical changes to the environment and to communities. Global corporations are very much frowned upon, as is unsustainable exploitation of resources. "Green conservatism" is a major player throughout this increasingly globalized and industrialized century. At the same time, several wars erupt within the various systems of realms and nation-states, with the deadliest caused by Morocco attempting to switch from the Ottoman to the Spanish commonwealth of realms. A situation in which two British realms go to war (British India vs. British Malaya over the Andamans) results in India abolishing its monarchy and Malaya installing its own after the king directly takes sides. There are continued expansions of welfare states, such that by 1990 even the deepest jungles of the Congo and mountain ranges of Afghanistan have education, healthcare, and (renewable!) energy.

21st Century - The world today is at roughly a Nordic level of development. There is still inequality, meaning that the poorest and most effed-up parts of the world look like Greenland or deep northern Finland while the wealthiest look like the affluent suburbs of Stockholm, but the global Gini coefficient is around 0.19. There are still "crises" (they aren't called wars anymore) periodically, but the hideous ideologies of Islamism, fascism, Nazism, Stalinism, Japanese militarism, and imperialism are subdued or nonexistent. Native cultures and traditional institutions are still strong, and 65% of the world's population still lives under a king or queen, but in general there is a pervasive level of center-right Western "Red Toryism" that sits in every corner of the world. Citizenship is regulated through a system of "traditions" that reflect cultural and ethnolinguistic blocs, and immigrants of a foreign citizenship are capped at 35% of most territories' populations (on average). In order to change one's citizenship, one must be able to demonstrate their allegiance to their new tradition. The world's borders are roughly based on ethnolinguistic and traditional lines and are shown below. The different colors reflect British, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Russian communities as well as European (black) and non-European (white) drawn borders. Each community is somewhere between the Commonwealth of Nations and the EU in terms of integration; they share certain leadership and enjoy preferential immigration treatment, but they aren't a common market and aren't under a single currency. The result is a deliciously Burkean center-right world of nation-states where poverty is rare and existing immigrants are required to integrate in order for new ones to arrive. (For someone really into Caribbean culture, I'll admit I kind of gave up in that region; colors represent the Worlda language map)

Emmett McFly's Reverse Sealion 1939

This is the sequel to my map covering @EmmettMcFly55 's Reverse Sealion, which in turn covers a timeline by the @The Kiat. The divergences from McFly's timeline go even deeper here. The part of Poland is taken by both New France and Scotland, while the Netherlands takes the spot of Spain rather than Turkey.

It is now August 31st, 1939. The Great War ended just over twenty years ago. After four years of war, the English, Welsh-Polish, Iberian, and American Empires came to their ends. Germany, France, the Federated States, Greece, and China stood victorious, though exhausted from half a decade of total war. The Treaty of Versailles, Keller-Briand Pact, and Universal Forum of States, intended to solve the issue of war once and for all, have failed after less than a generation. This resentment, combined with a worldwide economic depression has thrown the world into chaos. Meandrism and right-wing extremism have taken hold across the world. Democratic states are prepared for another total war.

- Greece, despite being on the winning side of the Great War, was the first state to fall to extremism. Citing a supposed betrayal by other winning powers of the Great War, the Meandrist Party (named for the Meander, an ancient symbol of unity) took power after a march on Athens in 1922. The undisputed leader (though technically Prime Minister) is Ioannis Metaxas. The first step in his campaign to create a Greek empire was the conquest of Ethiopia in 1935, which was met with international outrage.

- Perhaps the premier Meandrist state is England. The monarchy disappeared at the end of the Great War and the Winchester Republic was established in the place of the Empire. After fifteen years of hyperinflation, political chaos, and crippling debt the English National Front for Prosperity and Unity (or National Front) took power. The National Front espouses anti-Semitic, hypernationalist, and authoritarian views that go beyond those espoused by Meandrist parties elsewhere. Arthur Hart, elected Chancellor in 1933 and head of the National Front, was declared Supreme Leader just one year later. Hart and the National Front illegally built up the English military and signed an alliance with Greece and in spring 1938 annexed ethnically English Wales. Five months later, the English majority Pale of Ireland was annexed with the consent of Germany and France at Manchester. English forces conquered the rest of Ireland nearly before the ink of the Manchester Agreement was dry. These are just the opening moves in the English quest to conquer all regions of Greater England and carving “Breathing Room” out around it. England is optimistic for the future and is on the eve of launching an invasion of Scotland that will drag the world into another global war.

- France remains under the same republican government as 1914. Despite unrest from the far left and far right in the 1930s, the Third Republic has endured. While it remains a world power, France is not what it was twenty-five years before. Despite a rather naïve attitude amongst its leaders regarding English expansionism, the French have built a defensive line, the Atlantic Wall, along the English Channel as a contingency in case of invasion. Much to the ire of Paris, the Belgians never built their section of the Atlantic Wall, leaving that country open to English attack.

- The United Kingdom of Greater Germany and Schleswig-Holstein is, on paper, at the height of its glory. On the ground around the empire, it is clear that the German Empire is not what it once was. Catholic-majority Denmark slipped away after the Great War while calls for independence in other colonies are reaching a fever pitch. In India, a Mohandas Gandhi leads a major independence movement, while in South Africa, the Bowermen, defeated at the turn of the century and again in 1916, have begun to show signs of unrest. While still strong, Germany looks to be coming up on rough times.

- The Netherlands has also undergone significant change. While meandrists in most countries took power relatively peacefully, the Netherlands is an exception. The Third Dutch Republic came into existence in 1931 and increasingly fell under the dominance of left-wing, trade unionist elements. Finally, traditionalist generals had enough and attempted a coup. What happened next was three years of war. The Dutch Civil War functioned as a testing ground for both American and English weaponry while communists the world over flocked to fight for the Republic. In the end, the nationalists came out on top, and have installed Franciscus Franke as head of the meandrist Dutch State while the Republican government fled to the East Indies. While only at peace for a few months, the Dutch have already sent provocoteurs into Belgium, where they have attempted to bring sectarian divisions into open conflict. Due to its proximity to England and ideological ties, it is widely expected that the Dutch State will fight alongside their islandic cousins.

- The old American Empire is gone, replaced by the United Socialist States of America. The Emperor Niall II abdicated in 1917, in the closing stages of the Great War. A short-lived provisional republican government followed the end of imperial rule. This regime was in turn overthrown by the Communist Party, which declared the USSA. The communist government prevailed over its opposition in 1922, forced to accept the independence of Frasierland, the Maritime states, New France, and Scotland. The current head of state of the USSA is Joseph Stalin, born Seòsaidh Dùghallach. Under Stalin, the USSA has become increasingly authoritarian. Many in America are unhappy with these policies, but under Stalin, the secret police has risen to the height of power and is able to root out any opposition. Just eight days ago, American foreign minister Molloy signed a treaty with his English counterpart, Rutherford, drawing up American and English spheres of influence in the North Atlantic in addition to functioning as a non-aggression pact. If this agreement stands, dark days lie ahead for Scotland and New France.

- The Federated States of Russia returned to isolation from the world after the Great War. President Wilms, proponent of the Universal Forum, suffered a stroke shortly after the end of that war, and many of his party’s economic and social reforms were undone in the next decade by the Christian Party for Conscience and its laissez-faire policies. When the banks crashed, the FSR was hit heavily. Factories went dark across the country and the unemployed lined every street. In 1932, when the depression was at its worst, Freidrich Rosenvelt, Prefect of New Würzburg was elected to the Presidency. He quickly instituted monetarist policies and drastically increased government spending. Despite minor objections from extremists (well, and Senator Lang, but we won’t talk about him here) Rosenvelt has been vastly popular, winning reelection in 1936 in a landslide. With an election slated for next year, there is talk of Rosenvelt running for an unprecedented third term. However, if war breaks out, it is possible isolationist voices will win out over the internationalist president.

- Since the end of the Great War, China has slid into militarism. Military leaders have held the Premiership for most of the last two decades. The Grandest Council has, under these men, become an organ of the Imperial Army. Since 1931, the Chinese Army has been engaged in Japan, and has been openly fighting a mix of Japanese republicans and communists for just over two years. China appears to be intent on conquering all Japan and will not rest until it has achieved that goal. Relations with their old ally, Germany, have gone downhill as a result of China’s militarism, and there is fear in Europe of a Chinese invasion of French Indochina, German India, and European concessions in Japan.

Alright, finished the countries of Hennodia.

upload_2017-6-14_0-36-34.png

Triple Alliance
"Teutonia is somewhat terrifying, so let us ally and stop it!"

UNITED REALMS OF AZALAIA AND NARSENIA
"Let me make this clear, we're only here because Teutonia threatens us as well."

Considered one of the Great Powers, it is a bit of an odd one out, as while most of Hennodia are Hachidian, following a monotheistic religion, Azalaia follows the "Old Faith", a polytheistic and animistic religion. It has a tendency to look down on the rest of Hennodia, and often entertains the concept that they really don't count as part of it because they're an island-country.

It's currently in an uncomfortable alliance with its long-time rival Gallia because of the rising Teutonic threat. This has found opposition, including with the current Prime Minister who wished to ally with Teutonia instead but was forced to keep the alliance due to the Queen's determination to bind a strong alliance between the two countries.

The once-glorious Empire of Portusal, the greatest of Garuda's empires, was systemically shorn of its colonies and finally annexed into the United Realms in 1879. There is a Portusian movement for independence or home rule, but this seems to be something for the far future as the UR seems content with the present system of treating it like a colony.

GALLICAN COMMONWEALTH
"Sacred colour blue, Teutonia is a growing danger to all of Hennodia!"

A very proud people, they have a deep republican heritage going back a century at least, and even though their present Seventh Commonwealth isn't that stable, they're determined to fight for it against any threats foreign or domestic. And currently, the biggest threat is Teutonia, which has made them do the seemingly-impossible, ally with their long-time rival Azalaia.

They have hopes of ending Teutonia's control of Lavonia [once a Gallican puppet republic in the days of Paneleon] and weakening Teutonia so much it won't be a threat. For them, this war has grand aims.

TYZANBINE EMPIRE
"We're allying with you because of Moskraya, understood?"

The "empire of ten thousand years", as it dubs itself, is the legal successor to the Reman Empire that once dominated Hennodia and Garuda. It has waxed and waned over the centuries, but at the present under its present Empress [a young child of eleven years] it aims to destroy its greatest enemy that has limited Tyzanbine greatness one too many times - Moskraya.

Much like Azalaia, Tyzanbium is an "odd one out" in Hennodia, for even though it accepts the message of Hachid, it pushes a rather... un-orthodox view of it, called the "Reformed Church". To other Hachidians, this violates too much scriptures to be considered "true" Hachidian. Obviously Gallia doesn't bring it up around Tyzanbium because they need their alliance.

Central Powers
"Hegemony is our aim."

TEUTONIC IMPERIUM
"Teutonia uber alles, uber alles in der Welt!"
The "growing threat" of Hennodia, Teutonia used to be a much-divided country, the legacy of the old Sacred Reman Empire [not sacred, not Reman and not much of an Empire] being abolished by the Gallican Consul-President Paneleon. Teutonia has not forgotten this, and under its Emperor Joachim von Dencuit it aims to seize vengeance.

KINGDOM OF ESTALIA
"Tyzanbium is fake-Reman. We're the real deal."

Estalia too was similarly divided as Teutonia, but those days it is united and strong and willing to fight against its enemies. One of those enemies is Tyzanbium, which claims to being the heir to the Reman Empire rubs Estalia up the wrong way. Also, their tyrannical control of Southern Estalia for a long time made no friends anywhere in the country.

TSARDOM OF MOSKRAYA
"Da, hegemony is our aim."
Moskraya is fabled for being the land of eternal frost, a land of hardy people and a land where bears are perfectly-valid animals for the cavalry. It is a land of extremes. This has moved over to politics, where there is a bubbling pool of communism just under the surface of Moskrayan society. Time will tell if it will result in nothing, or if the polar bear will turn red.

Also important to note is its myriad ethnic minorities. Polithuans, Hetmadans, Belaruthians and of course, the Sillanpaans residing in the Grand Duchy of Sillanpaa, just north of Lavonia.

DUAL MONARCHY OF WESTRIA AND THIRASTERY
"Maybe we'll stay out of this war, just this once."
The Dual Monarchy is an attempt by the Westrian elite to bring aboard the Thirasterian nobility to unite opposition to rising forces that could rip the entire Empire apart. One of those forces is rising Alsatian national consciousness. Westria invaded Alsatia and subjected it a long time ago, and a national renaissance including the growth of Alsatian-language literature threatens their control.

As the war slowly became, Thirasterian nobility pushed for more power to Thirastery, which Westrian nobility and the monarch refused. This threw the entire country into instability, forcing them to withdraw from the alliance.

OTHER HENNODIAN COUNTRIES
"Can't we all sit down and discuss this peacefully?"

KINGDOM OF GELDERLAND
"Diesel is the way forward, people."

A land of windmills, wooden clogs, canals and rowboats, so says many Lagellian comics which retorted to stereotypes to note it. It's also a land full of diesel engines, thanks to the genius of one Samuel van der Coompuist. His invention caught on rapidly in Gelderland, but the influence of steam companies has prevented a global market for it.

Regarding the coming war, it really, really hopes it doesn't end up invaded and brought into the war by force, but it considers that a sad inevitability as it is sandwiched by Gallia and Teutonia, and one of the two will certainly think victory could be brought about by invading Gelderland and opening up a new front, surprising the other side.

THE ORDER OF SAINT RUDOLPH (BARLEIA)
"We have no interest in this... great war."

Barleia, formally called the Order of Saint Rudolph, is a thriving and somewhat cosmopolitan land, ruled with an iron fist by an austere military order full of old war veterans seeking to relive "glory days" while dressing up as the knights of old. It is a land of tension as the political government does not reflect the societal reality of the country.

There are rumours that the Order's regime might be toppled by a revolution, but one can't think of any ideology with enough revolutionary success or fervour that could do it.

HALVESTIAN CONFEDERACY
"Our mountains give goods to our cities, they give money back. It works as an economy."

Halvestia is known for its neutrality. In fact, that's the first thing they tell you when you're a diplomat, just in case you ever had any thought that they might be tempted to go to war with anybody. They're remarkably insistent that they're neutral, making sure that everybody knows they're neutral. To a point where everybody thinks that they might be working for the other side. Oops.

Still, they're really good traders, with goods made in their mountains being the most searched-for in their thriving marketplaces in their cities. Mutual profit is how the country functions, it seems.

GRAND COUNTY OF SYLVANIA
"Ve vill not participate in this var. Thiss is all ve vill say."

Known for its long nights, the creepy castles, the funny accents and the... vampires. But the present Grand Count laughs away all those stereotypes, saying "It vasn't true vhen I ruled a hund-... vhen my grandvater ruled a hundred years ago. It isn't true now!" Oh, that makes it all much better! When are you booking a holiday to Sylvania?

It has remained steadfastly neutral in the alliance system, ruling out an alliance with either Moskraya or Tyzanbium, something that makes people scratch their heads. Sylvania is in such a perilous position, sandwiched between two hostile powers. Why would it refuse to agree to an alliance with one or the other to save its bacon?

KINGDOM OF DANELAND
"It sure would be nice if Gallia gave us back the Folskyr Islands, but we're not going to war for that."

One of the "Norden" nations, along with Sveren and Nordvay, the three are not participating in this seemingly-pointless war. Daneland has something to aim for, with the contentious Folette Islands [Folskyr Islands, damnit!] now Gallican and if they were on a victorious Central Powers side, they would certainly get them back. But what if they lose?

KINGDOM OF SVEREN
"Moskraya concerns us, especially with their control over Sillanpaa."

Sveren too has something to aim for, the Grand Duchy of Sillanpaa. They once controlled the land before Moskraya humiliatingly defeated them and took it away from them, halfing their land size in the process. Now with Moskraya heading towards war with Tyzanbium, the opportunity is certainly ripe for them to seize the day. But in the end, they faltered and chose to stay neutral.

KINGDOM OF NORDVAY
"War? What would we have to gain?"

The most unlikely Norden nation to go to war is Nordvay, which would gain nothing from it, as it doesn't border any other nation participating in the Great Hennodian War. Well, there's some frozen islands in the north that belongs to Moskraya that they could demand, but that's honestly it, and it's too much a price to pay for that little.

ALLIED STATES OF LAGELLANIA
"War? Well, missy, those silly Hennies should be left alone to fight each other."

A very unlikely participant in the war would be the Allied States of Lagellania, one of the major independent nations in the Eastern Hemisphere. It has been steadfastly isolationist and uninterested in even holding a diplomatic conference. There is an election this year, though, and I hear the Progressive candidate is rather more "worldly" than normal.

The Commonwealth of Plata
The thing about rejection relations with Australia and South Africa but not New Zeeland or Canada because of racist immigration policies does not make sense. They all had them.

Did Plata play much of role in supporting the Allies in WW2?
Did WW2 even happen TTL?

Are the Falkland Islands/Malvinas a territory of Plata TTL? It would make lots more sense than Britain hanging on to them but they are not shown on the map.

Beautiful map!

I like how Pokemon just slapped southern Sakhalin into Sinnoh's map. It's like a big 'fite me Putin' sign.

Basically the POD is July 20th, 1944. Hitler is killed by a briefcase bomb in the Wolf Lair. The new German Government gives ALL land back and declares war on Japan. Japan is quickly overrun by Allied forces and surrenders in January of 1945. Japan is split in 2, South Japan, ruled by the USA, UK, Germany, and France, and also North Japan, ruled by the USSR. Hokkaido is annexed by the USSR, and Japan is made a puppet.

Why a surrendering Germany was allowed to keep Alsace-Lorraine and Suedetland ? Why Austria got seemingly random German parts ?

Why did Germany give Prussia to Poland? Why did the German opposition declare war on Germany despite A) being on almost the opposite side of Eurasia and B) pretty much irrelevant outside of Nazi grand strategy? Why is the Nazi Party apparently composed of solely Adolf Hitler, and therefore immediately collapsed when he died? Why is France occupying Korea? Why is every state in Eastern Europe the same as they were before the war?

Turquoise blue, what's the Ireland and Spain, as well as the Yougoslavea and Eastern European analogs.
