Hearts of Iron IV Thread

Unpopular Opinion: there should be no custom focus trees for Hoi4 to be accurate. What can make Hoi4 so good is that it is an engine, so things work the same for all countries sometimes. Like research, or the combat system. National-specific caveats are understandable in coding a video game. But the point of it all is that the same mechanics for politics and decision making are all in place in each nation, just combining in a way that produces a unique result every time. Aside from that, I would say the first really fun game I had was as Bernie Sanders in Make America Again (An unfortunately dead mod), and maybe also as the Bermontians in Poland.

Edit: A big thanks to Gukpard for making this thread as Hoi4 is a game I really enjoy!

I still don't understand why France start with only 3 research slots while Italy who was in even worse shape start with 4. It take age to unlock all research slots and by the time you do the game is already over.

Because the French are lazy perhaps? I dunno. No good reason really. The dumbest part of the research mechanic is that your research doesn't depend on your economy, but just research. Then El Salvador can have just as much of a nuclear program as the USA. Makes no sense at all.

Apparently in Non-ToA unmodded, the Peru-Chile war that starts in the 40s results in both joining the Axis/Allies and starting a South American front of the war.

Very recently got into this game after largely being absent from the series since Hearts of Iron II. Surprised by how much I'm loving it! :D

I'm considering trying an AAR again on the Paradox forums if I can decide what country I want to try. France, Republican Spain, Yugoslavia or Ireland (using a mod tp make it more interesting) are all possibilities.

Ideally I'd be looking for something that lets me build a cool air force and isn't so enormous I'd get lost keeping track of everything.

About the other comment, I do agree that more countries should be included and that errors like Peru-Equator joining WWII shows a deep level of laziness.

You are welcome.

@TheWildWestPyro @xie323 @SilverImperator a brazilian right wing libertarian channel is using HoI4 to spread libertarian propaganda

"The power of the kaiser in kaiserreich, even here socialism dies"

"The distorted liberty of new order"
"The distorted liberty of new order" what lmao
I don't want to watch propaganda in Portuguese lel. Does he cope that the Junta isn't wholesome 100 and that Goulart isn't an evil Stalinist who eats babies?

He vaguely states the brazilian lore, so thankfully no pro junta messages

HoI4 needs a better site for guides, really, it is boring to go watch a two hour video since the guides in the wiki either are outdated or don't exist

You mean for achivements? That is easy;
Step 1: Take over the world
Step 2: ????????????
Step 3: achievement unlocked

Nah, like, for normal campaigns.

Let's say I want to play as monarchist Norway. I have to open a Taureor video that is two hours long since the text in the wiki don't have the optimal way of playing as them.

I can't figure out this game for the life of me. I knew it would be more complicated than Crusader Kings III but I kind of have buyer's remorse now. I want to have fun with it and do the usual map painting that comes with Paradox games but it's all so complex and the tutorials genuinely suck.

Well, what made me interested in it was a gameplay I saw made by Rimmydownundergaming. Maybe you could watch someone playing and copy what they do, basic import substitution.

Bitterst33l is a good choice since he comments his strategies, check his channel ^=^.

I have watched a few videos but even still, due to the nature of the RGB it rarely goes the same way, and I'm less interested in the "optimal" way of playing than literally just knowing what steps to take to play.

Is there any way to keep North Ireland as communist Britain? If I refuse to decolonise there is a civil war, can I side with the communists and win it?

That civil war its highly, but highly nerfed in favor of the rebel communists ( that the player can't join ). There are tricks to win it ( for example doing the Imperial Federation before, which means that IIRC you keep loyal the former commonwealth nations ) and there are a few videos that show how to do it, but it's pretty difficult.
