The Shadow of Huey Longs 22 year presidency still looms large over America, even in 1960.
Henry Wallace, Longs Vice President and the one who succeeded him after his tragic death in 1958 has largely failed the Radical Populist Party, his racial progressivism almost causing a party split. His own party primaried him choosing Huey Longs son, Russell B Long, over the failed Vice President.
The Progressive Party, started 20 years ago in 1940 by George Norris and LaFollettes, they had felt that the Radical Populist abandoned any idea of racial harmony, by keeping Huey Long as there 1940 nominee. Starting there own Party to challenge Long, they have nominated Quentin Roosevelt son of Teddy Roosevelt to lead the charge and finally kill the long beast.
The Socialist Labor Party, has been walking like a turtle, slowly crawling forward over the years to now be a good challenger for the Presidency.
The Republican Party has suffered blow after blow through out 20th century, starting back in 1896 with the victory of William Jennings Bryan, and its only been going down hill ever sense. They have nominated two moderates, George Aiken of Vermont, and Republican main stay Thomas Dewey. Will they die long their old rival the Democrats of old, or will the Elephant come in victorious.
The Conservative Party is raging eagle, with almost sixty nonstop years of either moderate or left wing rule, Conservatives are tired of increasingly liberal and moderate Republican Party, and are furious with the leftist economics of the other big three, thus they rally behind Barry Goldwater and Strom Thurmond to lead the charge and to try to gain the Presidency, and end leftist and liberal rule once and for all.
The results are in and its chaos.
