Well, it depends on the context, but I tend to prefer simpler flags, so 2 gets my vote. If it's more of an Communist/Syndicalist America, then obviously 1 is more fitting.
I personally would have went with 1 but would have either kept the canton blue or made the red stripes blue.
For a communist America? 2. Because a communist America wouldnt want to have symbols of the old nation.
Many communist nations did keep the symbols of the pre-communist nations. Look at Eastern Europe. Also Cuba.
first one for me. simple and distinctive but still recognizable as a US flag. Logo centered (or here, more or less centered) on a plain field-type design are just a bit boring to me. They also tend to look like plain red flag which is one of the reason china and the USSR moved their emblem to the upper hoist.

The flag of a democratic Turkmenistan.
The five stars represent the five provinces and the five tribes of Turkmen, the waxing moon represents the future of the state, the stars and the crescent together obviously symbolize Islam. The green represents peace, and the red represents the blood of the fallen and the valor of the Turkmen.
In times of peace, it is to be flown with its fringes attached to the pole, representing Turkmenistan's will towards peace and diplomacy. In times of war (as in 2001-2003), it is to be flown with the green to the pole, representing the fighting spirit of the Turkmen.

Happy St. David's day, here's how I would incorporate a welsh element into the union jack
Flags for Japan in my TL where the Emperor is a autocratic ruler and the northern Island is a French Colonial protectorate
Might just be my Americaness showing but I always thought that Welsh colors were Red White and Green. Where do the Black and Yellow come from are they older Welsh Colors or newer Welsh Color? I'm generally interested to find out
Green, Red, White are from the Dragon flag while the Black-Gold are from the Cross of St. David (Patron Saint of Wales)
(Red Dragon seems to be the older and the more popular flag but I can see why AH.com flag makers prefer the cross since it is much easier and more natural to include in a modified Union Jack).
