Blue Blur Speeds by Nintendo: Sonic Team Joins Nintendo

Cool! Also, why does the Gamecube look like that?
Hard drive functionality. The current GameCube as it was could not fit the hard drive that Nintendo needed for their online system so they needed to make adjustments to the GameCube. Though it is more so like a box.

So maybe a name change is in order? Also what's sega been up to sense sonic team left? Does it end up being bought out by Sony or Microsoft? What happens to games like streets of rage, virtual fighter, panzer dragoon, sakura wars, house of the dead and shenmue? And how come other sonic team games like nights into dreams, burning rangers, chuchu rocket, space channel 5 and samba de amigo weren't mentioned?

Will be answered in the next chapter.

Bonus Chapter Sega and Other Companies
Hello and welcome to Bonus Chapter. A place where everything not previously mentioned is brought to light. Without further ado let us answer the questions:

Nintendo is letting Archie Comics develop a comic book series about the Mario Brothers due to seeing the success of the Sonic comic. Ken Panders has not done anything to get on Nintendo’s bad side so he is safe for now. Fleetway Sonicnis not created and Sonic Satam gets its third season.

Out of the Sega titles only Virtua Fighter, Golden Axe, Puyo Puyo, Crazy Taxi and House of the Dead exist since they were arcade titles. Nights into Dreams was put on hold for Sonic Team to finish Sonic Adventure 1&2, it was also mainly a tech demo to showcase the power of the Nintendo CDI and was scrapped once work on Sonic Adventure was needed. Even though Sonic Team could create more franchises their main focus was the Sonic franchise and it is yet to be seen if Nintendo will require different franchises as Nintendo already gets Sega’s big arcade franchises as exclusives. Lastly, Phantasy Star Online will be made by Sonic Team in 2003 as Sega will want help to make the game for consoles.

As for Sega they are successful in the arcade division, but lack the big hits for consoles so they are looking up companies to acquire. Their rival to acquiring different companies is the Sammy corporation. Sega and Sammy fight over many companies and the most notable one is Konami as they get the rights to Contra, Castlevania and the Goemon series while Sammy gets the right to Silent Hill, Metal Gear Solid and Yugioh. Sega also makes a bid for SNK but SNK merges with Bandai before any big acquisition can take place. With Bandai not around to be merge with Namco merges with Koei instead leaving Tecmo to be acquired by Sega or Sammy due their popular fighting game franchise Dead or Alive.

Even though Sega is third party, they mainly stick with Nintendo due to their great relationship. So why doesn’t Nintendo buy them? Until Sega is threatened to get acquired by someone else, Nintendo will leave the company independent. Nintendo is playing the safe game with acquisitions to keep the Federal Trade Commission off their back.

Sony lets Naughty Dog leave as their differences in game and franchise vision did not match. Having Square and Vivendi games is more than enough for game development.

Lastly, Microsoft gets into the video game console business with Naughty Dog and Bungie at the helm of their premiere studios. Rare is a toss up as Nintendo sees them bleeding talent and Microsoft doesn’t see the need to purchase Rare with their two big hit studios. Out of the game companies, Sega is the likely candidate to acquire Rare to beef up their portfolio. Time will tell if Sammy tries to outbid them.

Shame fleetway isn't a thing here, I actually like their stories and characters more then what archie did until flynn came. Where any of ben Hurst idea for season 3 used?

Sure hope nights becomes a launch title for this thread's version of the wii. Miyamoto was very fond of nights, feeling that it was the one game he would have loved to work on. I'm sure he would enjoy working with Sonic Team to make nights into the next big Nintendo star.

Nintendo aquires tecmo for dead or Alive? Interesting choice see as how doa's umm... jiggle mechanics might not mesh well with the big n's squeaky clean image.

Yes especially the anti-human aspect of the show as Snively rebuilds Dr. Robotnik to take out the freedom fighters. It gets darker.

Nights will exist. It was put on hiatus due to working on Sonic Adventure.

With XBox arriving and stealing thunder from the hardcore crowd, Nintendo wants to keep some of the mature audience. They believe Dead or Alive will help with that.
Edit: Nintendo will not acquire Tecmo as that seems unrealistic.

Chapter 22: Brothers of a Feather - January - Year 2002
Somewhere in Georgia, United States
"Alright Jamison open your present."
"Yes mom."

rips wrapping paper open.

"Wow it is the Nintendo NetDrive! Thanks Mom. Thanks Dad."

"And that isn't all son open the last present."

"Lets see here. It is a controller!"

"That is for your little brother, Gerald, to play the Melee Demo with you. Have fun you two and I don't want any arguing."
*sigh* "Fine mom."

The brothers hook up the console and try to think of an account name.

Gerald: "Name it something cool like Shadow Killer."

Jamison: "No Gerald. Let me see. How about TriforceWielder?

Gerald: "Alright my turn."

Jamison: "Not yet, lets play Melee."

The boys open the Melee Demo.

Jamison: "The disc is smaller than usual. Take a look Gerald."

Gerald: "Hey Jamison, do you think that Nintendo will buy Rare or Sega in the future?"

Jamison: "I see no reason for them to buy Sega but Rare is a guarantee."

"Hey boys how is the game coming along?"

Boys in unison: Fine Dad.

"Show me the roster for the game."

"Ice Climbers? Those are really old characters for Nintendo to add to the game."

Hours pass as the boys play as different characters, Jamison as Marth and Gerald as Fox.

Dad: "I wonder what the future has in store for Nintendo. I was certain that Sega would be the company to rival Nintendo and not Hudson Soft."

Chapter 23: A Rare Happenstance - February - April Year 2002
Later on in the year many different instances occurred:

S.N.K. was on the verge of bankruptcy and was about to be bought out by the Saudi Arabic prince until anime company Bandai stepped in to secure the deal. S.N.K. was thankful that they would not have to alter their way of business to fit Saudi Arabic standards. Under this new leadership S.N.K. would help Bandai with their video games and be willing to make Dragon Ball Z fighting games.

Namco was hurting tremendously in the financial department. Profits on games were on a downward trend and the company was looking for a merger to stave off the financial wounds in the company. First option was Bandai to merge with; however, Bandai was busy merging with S.N.K. not leaving any room for Namco to join in. One look at Namco's financial troubles caused the CEO of S.N.K. to turn away the potential merger. There was one company that was not struggling and was willing to merge due to Namco's high profile of video game franchises. That game company was Koei, the makers of the Dynasty Warriors series. Koei was in talks to merge with Tecmo, but the company leapt at the chance to merge with Namco when it saw the potential Musou games it could make. With that Koei Namco was born.

Nintendo and Sony both finalize their acquisitions of game developers Enix and Square respectively. Sony was hoping its acquisition of Square would help keep it ahead of Nintendo in the video game sphere. Microsoft was happy with its newly found relationship with Naughty Dog and Bungie. Naughty Dog would get to work on a certain video game title called Uncharted.

The head of Konami was looking to cash out due to increasing game development costs. Two companies looking to buy the video game company were the Sammy Corporation and Sega. Bidding of the game company's properties had started and ended with Sammy Corporation getting hold of the Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill and Yugioh franchises; whereas, Sega got the Castlevania, Contra and Goemon franchises. Sega would continue its relationship with releasing games on Nintendo's consoles as it would deepen its relationship with the big N.

Speaking of the Big N there was a certain deal that they were involved in.

In Georgia United States
"Boys I don't want you to mess this."

"What is it dad?" Said the boys in unison.

Dad: Nintendo is announcing what it is doing with game developer Rare.

Jamison: Hopefully they purchase them. Their relationship is the stuff of legends.

Gerald: Yeah, I am hoping Nintendo buys them and Sega to further their strength in the video game industry.

Dad: Shhh, here is the announcment.

News Reporter: In a move that has shocked the gaming world, Nintendo has announced that it has sold its entire stake in famed game developer, Rare, to Electronic Arts.

Dad and Jamison: Not Electronic Arts!

Gerald: What is the matter?

News Reporter: This decision marks the end of a long-standing partnership between the two companies.

Dad: EA ruined Bullfrog entertainment that made Populous and Westwood that made Command and Conquer.

Jamison: Yeah and they are going to ruin Rare at this rate! Why Nintendo why? I wanted Banjo and Fulgore in Smash.

Gerald: They better not buy Sega. I love Golden Axe.

News Reporter: The deal will be finalized in the year 2004 and amounts to $500 Million US dollars for the stake that EA bought from Nintendo.

Dad: Welp. It looks like EA has claimed another one. Sorry for your loss Jamison.

Cool, but why couldn't Sega just buy the whole company? Also, why does Sony have to buy Square?

Aw eef nah................

Welp, that's a bummer.

But I do have a idea tho. Why not sue EA into the ground so we can break them up?

EA is not big enough for the government to consider the monopoly suit route. While EA does have few companies under its belt TTL, it is not much compared to what OTL Microsoft have right now, at least that's what I think.

Sega cannot afford the whole of Konami and Sammy Corporation was going to buy the whole company until Sega threw its hat into the ring.

Sony wanted to buy Square to get an edge over Nintendo’s CDI console for the PS2 era. Sony knew that Square played a pivotal role in making Nintendo consoles popular.

Chapter 24: Online Shooter Incoming - May - June - Year 2002
Nintendo Headquarters
"Did you accomplish the deal Bill Trinen?"

"Yes Iwata-San, we have secured the rights to publish the upcoming game made by Dice for our NetDrive Console."

Iwata: All it took was giving up majority stake in Rare.

Bill Trinen: About that sir. What made you decide that was the best course of action?

Iwata: The Stamper Brothers were quick to make a sale of their game developer so I wondered why. Looking into it turns out that Rare was bleeding talented developers left and right. They were leaving to form their own companies. Such as Radical Free Entertainment.

Bill Trinen: So we would just be buying the Intellectual Properties and have to focus on keeping the games up to par with their previous titles?

Iwata: Exactly.

Bill Trinen: Now why did you sell to Electronic Arts? And not say Microsoft or Activision?

Iwata: Microsoft was unwilling to make an offer. They had enough developers as per stated. Activision was a matter of getting outbid by Electronic Arts and throwing in a sweet deal.

Bill Trinen: That deal being?

Iwata: The ability to publish the Battlefield 1942 game for our console the NetDrive. I see western gaming being the future of video game development. Granted, we will still make games traditionally that our consumers like with that Nintendo edge like for the Mario and Zelda franchises.

Bill Trinen: So this deal will help increase the popularity of the NetDrive's Online functionality?

Iwata: That is correct. With Battlefield 1942 we should help increase the popularity of the NetDrive tremendously.

Bill Trinen: That is good to hear.

Gerald: Come on Jamison it is time to come out of your room. We should play more Smash Brothers.

Jamison: Why should I? There is no chance that Banjo and Fulgore get into Smash Brothers now.

Gerald: But Jamison, just think of all the new characters that could get in. Maybe even Ridley and Diddy Kong will join the battle this time around?

*opens door slightly*

Jamison: Hopefully you are right.

Gerald: Yeah, don't worry. I am hoping that Shadow makes it in myself. Plus we might see some characters from Dragon Quest.

Jamison: It will probably be the hero from Dragon Quest IV.

Gerald: Yeah, so what do you say? *hands Jamison a controler*

Jamison: Ready to lose?

Gerald: Now that is the spirit!

As of now games such as Metroid Prime (has online ranking mode) and Sonic Advance are being released for the Nintendo Drive and Game Boy Advance. Nintendo's current relationship with THQ interactive helps with the production and creation of Sonic Advance. Sonic Advance 2 is the current game in the Sonic Advance triology and is set to release in the year 2002 with increased Chao Garden support and activities such as Chao Archery and Chao Kart Racing.

Ok. Maybe Nintendo should buy EA itself at some point.

Given just how large EA is even back in the 2000s I doubt it.
That and Nintendo, along with Sony, doesn't buy companies very often. They only do it if they believe that it would be good for them. Also, there is the fact EA doesn't has great relationship with Nintendo and Sony by this point, don't know about Microsoft.
