Sorry for the annoyances but I guess this may be the best place to ask for.
Does anyone knows the thread this map game corresponds?

I got it from discord about 6/7 months ago and since then I was intrigued to know exactly where it came from. Figured one of you guys may know
That comes from one of the old Most Confusing Map games, the third edition to be precise, which you can find here: https://www.alternatehistory.com/fo...me-3-qbam-edition—large-images-inside.370656/

The Great Transport had left humanity in a very bad state. What was left of the United States, now a bunch of scattered Northern Alaskan settlements led by Fairbanks, was trying its best to move downwards to find habitable lands. Eventually they found some in the form of the Columbian coast, and they settled it in the hopes of gaining new growth. They were outmatched, however, by Canada, which was also reduced to its forgotten areas. However, they resettled the areas with ease, restarting the farming the prairies contributed as well as constructing settlements around the great Lakes and St. Lawrence, including their new capital Maple City, located at the meeting point of Lake Superior and Huron.

Across the Davis Strait, the Inuits of Greenland finally found themselves independent at the cost of their capital and southern settlements. After resettling the area rather quickly, a government was reformed in Ittoqqortoormiit, and the Inuits got around to establishing settlements around them, such as the shores of Lake Melville, northern Newfoundland, Ireland and Iceland, the latter of which was split with Norway.

Like the North Americans, Norway was struggling to survive. The 2,939 citizens, miners, meteorologists and radio communicators non-permanently residing in Svalbard and Jan Mayen found themselves isolated and cut off from Oslo and the Norwegian Mainland, and they turned to themselves to survive, as well as escape for the lower, much more fertile and habitable land in Europe. Eventually, contact was reestablished with the Norwegian mainland, though only from the town of Tromsø, which was the only major Norwegian settlement left after the rest were wiped out. After reestablishment, the Norwegian state began resettling the rest of the Norwegian coast, as well as Establishing posts around northern Britain, the Rhine Delta and western Brittany. Eventually some of the British Outposts, tired of the very few resources coming from Tromsø, started campaigning for independence.

The Russians, however, were in a better shape than the other remnants of humanity. Now being run from Novosibirsk, they had lots of land left to reestablish Russia as a world superpower, as well as enough people to extract resources and expand the Russian boundaries to the Pacific coasts and the Fertile wilderness that lay ahead of them. In no matter of seconds, Outposts to the Amur River and the Black Sea, as well as across to the Baltic Sea were established. All in all, Russia is now the global power of the world, rivalling only Canada for dominance over the remaining resources.
See, I really like the concept for your series, but once again the original ISOT boundaries really bother me.

If Hudson Bay is part of the Arctic (and I think it should), it's going to get parts of North Dakota and Minnesota as well as almost all of the Prairie Provinces.

And if it's not, Canada is only going to have Nunavut, the Northwest Territories, northern Alberta, and smaller chunks of BC, Yukon, and Saskatchewan. Settling that far south that fast is aggressive.

The first image is legible enough to make out some states.

We have (this will involve some speculation and fun "name-work" to detail this map):
  • Iceland
  • Norway
  • Sweden
  • Denmark
  • United Kingdom of the British Isles
  • French Empire (judging by the lack of Belgium)
  • Spain
  • Portugal
  • Galicia
  • Dutch Republic
  • North German Confederation
  • Helveto-Bavarian Union
  • West Danubia
  • East Danubia
  • Romano-Serbian Union
  • Bulgarian Empire
  • Albania
  • Greece
  • Italy
  • Russian Empire
    • Finland
    • Baltic Union
    • Ruthenia
    • Novorussia
  • Republic of Murmansk
  • West Anatolia
  • East Anatolia
  • Morocco
  • Algeria
  • Tunisia
Time to map it in a more legible manner and give it lore.

the_roman_federation_and_the_kingdom_of_all_german_by_spiritswriter123_df7yltn-fullview.jpg

So, about 5 months ago, some friends and I (namely @Queeney and @Komnenos002) were discussing how to create the biggest Germany, first as a political entity with a POD in about 1800, then as cultural entity going back to Migration Period Europe. Finally, I decided to make a map reflecting this idea.

In this world, the Roman Empire and the Foederati (especially the Goths) integrate more and more, and eventually one of the Gothic Kings (I imagined Theodoric I or II of the Visigoths) manages to become Roman Emperor. The Roman Empire shifts and evolves more and more until it becomes the "Roman Federation," fully incorporating the German Foederati into the Empire as "Dominators", and giving the Roman Emperor the title of "King of all Germans." With the death of the previous Emperor, the Dominators select a new Emperor from among them, much like the electors selected the Holy Roman Emperor. The Capital of the Federation is placed in Tolouse, former capital of the Visigoths and strategically located between the ports of Bordeaux and Narbonne, from which the Emperors can exert control over their Atlantic and Mediterranean dominions.

Slowly, over time, the empire expands north, incorporating former enemies and other Germanic states into the empire, such as the Angles, the Saxons, and the three Norse realms. The culture and religion of the courts of the Federation is messy: Legally, Latin is the language of the Emperor and Imperial government, but German, an amalgamation of all Germanic languages swirling together, is the private language of the Emperor and many of the northern Dominators. There is no strict official religion of the empire, but most of the religion of the empire can be placed on a spectrum from "Fully Christian" in the Vandal Domination to "Fully Germanic Paganism" in the Norse Dominations, and mixes of the two in between. Nonetheless, over the course of the period of the Roman Federation, a "German" identity, melding together everyone from the Vandals to the Rugi.

Eventually, the authority of the Roman Emperor waned and the authority of the Dominators grew. The Gaeserids of the Vandal Domination were wealthy and powerful, and the Norse Dominations of the Ingelids, Munsids, and Ellids were distant from Toulouse, with all four of these being able to gain much autonomy by 1000 AD. Soon thereafter, more Dominators closer and closer to Tolouse also flexed autonomy, and by 1200, any authority left in the Roman Emperor in the West, the King of All Germans, was purely ceremonial.

It's been a 200 years since the first Norse contact with Asia, and the world has changed significantly since then. The Norse travelled down to China, and as they did, raided. News returned home of this land of immense riches, and more came back to raid once more. The Jin Dynasty at this point was facing instability, and was unable to solve the Viking problem. Combined with a song invasion, it soon collapsed into warring states. An alliance of these warlords pushed back the song, but it would be a Norse warlord that united the North once again and take back the gains the Song had made. The New Bei dynasty (just like the Europeans the Chinese name for the Norse came from the word for North) would assimilate into Chinese culture, but Norse influence could be seen in it's sizable navy.

Trade with China, now with less piracy due to that navy, picked up and the Norse became incredibly rich and influential becoming middlemen in that trade. The three commonwealths of Vinland, Greenland, and Iceland were almost anarchist entities, chaotic pitstops for this trade.

The butterflies of course did flap, Ireland and Scotland were conquered by some Norse who got wealthy off of trade with China, England also faced significant Norse raids, forcing it's attention away from France without the uniting force of the Hundred Years war has fragmented significantly. In Germany the Pope won his conflict against the Holy Roman Emperor, resulting in it's collapse, but preventing it's further splintering (except in Italy) Poland keeps it's West and there is a lack of crusades.

The Moroccans found their own Southern Path to China, spreading Islam to the Polynesians among the trade routes. The Tongan Empire went through much instability following contact, but it has recovered and grown since then, albeit while having an Arab-descended dynasty. Islam has also spread among the Phillipines and the Norse descended Kingdom of Friðrey Somethings refuse to change however, and Genghis Khan has united the Mongols. The Bei Dynasty has declined significantly due to poor leadership and corruption, and they look to be an easy target. Who knows what the future will entail.
Fun! Although this does give you an ellipsoid Earth with gravity substantially higher at the Equator. :openedeyewink:

The laws of physics have been ignored for this scenario to work
It's still Watermelon Earth whatever the physics. :) I suppose you could move the Poles closer together...it's not like we're using Antarctica anyway, and why not have the north Pole in Greenland? [1]

[1] Bonus: infinitely large Greenland on Mercator

The so-called 'Managed' regime at 30: The Hydrological Tyrant of North America

gUvBmbZ.jpg

Since the takeover of the current regime in 2042, the great Interior States - once a shining hope of freedom and prosperity in the world - has become an aggressive bully, demanding for itself total control of the coninent's water. Not, as its so-called 'coordinating committee' claims, to ensure a supply for its own citizens - as though anyone would believe the absurd accusations which justified the occupations of Assiniboia and the south bank of the Ohio. Instead, its goal is to use its control of water to terrorize and bully its neighbors.

Appeasers warn you against the fate of the South - but that was nothing but a show of force, a parade. Green Bay already controls more than 95% of the continent's fresh water - a supply which is drying up by the day. In essence, its goal is to turn us all into little New Mexicos or Texases, totally dependent as they are on Green Bay for the water coming out down the Rio Grande. The real threat is the day, not so long from now, when yet again they decide they want more - maybe full control over the Mississippi, maybe at long last, the Bitterroot, maybe, why not, a foothold over those last few trickles of the Colorado you all depend on - and give us all the choice to roll over or die of thirst. They won't need any fancy planes or tanks if they get what they want - just a switch on their dams.

Make no mistake. The conquest of the South is not an isolated incident. People who call this an ancient cultural hatred going back to the eighteen-whatevers are fooling themselves. The Midwest doesn't have a single neighbor it hasn't invaded or tried to control the government of. It will not stop with the Mississippi basin. It will not stop with the East Coast. If you want to maintain your freedom, and, more importantly, your right to eat and drink, the time to act is now. We need collective defense. We need economic help. We need trust and support for the activists who are risking their lives to bring down the regime. Everything is on the line.

Uses the Yugoslav/Pan Slavic tricolor

Vaguely socialist COA design

Controls Ontario

Finally, I can live at peace knowing that Yugoslavia will follow my family across the ocean and my potential future descendants can grow up in a new Yugoslavia

I don't care that it's a dictatorship that hoards water.

Map of an alternate Europe. Basically, the Moriscos are able to hold on to their religion and culture in spite of persecution. Once the Spanish Empire collapsed, the Moriscos declared independence as the Republic of Andalusia(Spanish: Republica de Andalucia, Arabic: جمهورية الأندلس Jumhuriat al-Andalus). There’s a series of butterflies from there that culminates in TTL’s World War I, fought between Britain and Germany on one side and France, Russia, and Austria-Hungary on the other, with the Anglo-German side winning.

In Iberia, Spain and Portugal are relatively stable, although there’s some tension due to the two being on opposite sides in TTL‘s Cold War. Portugal is a constitutional republic(albeit a rather corrupt one) while Spain is a Carlist absolute monarchy with socialist characteristics. Andalusia is the black sheep of the peninsula, having a mostly Arab Muslim culture and being significantly poorer and more unstable than the other two. Andalusia also hasn’t entirely forgiven Spain for centuries of oppression, but otherwise the two have fairly cordial relations.

Germany is the hegemonic power of Continental Europe. All of Eastern Europe(save Russia) have been German puppet states ever since the signing of the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk. Although Germany is definitely a great power, its not considered a superpower, as it has little influence outside Europe.

The Whites won the Russian Civil War, and established a military dictatorship. Following the end of the dictatorship period in 1961, Russia transformed into a constitutional monarchy under a restored branch of the Romanovs. Russia today is a rising power and one of the world’s fastest growing economies.

Britain managed to keep their empire longer then OTL, but lost a Cold War against the United States, after which most of Britain’s colonies(and Wales) declare independence. Said Cold War was mainly over the issue of colonialism. Britain today is still a great power, but they no longer have the global influence they once had.

Italy is divided between the Kingdom of Italy in the north and the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies in the south, with the Papal States in between. There’s a united Scandinavia arising from an alternate Napoleonic Wars, but it has little influence on the greater world. France collapsed into civil war after TTL’ World War I, which resulted in it being taken over by a military junta that gradually democratized and Britanny becoming independent. The Balkans are a chaotic mess as OTL, with the fascist National Republic of Yugoslavia regularly threatening their neighbors with nuclear annihilation. Greece and Turkey also fight over Cyprus every so often. Switzerland and the Benelux countries are mostly the same as OTL. I know it’s not the most realistic scenario, but it’s an interesting one(in my opinion).

While South Georgia and the South Falkland Islands were occupied(one maybe one island each) and claimed by the Argentinians for a couple years, not sure if all of them would count. A very minor thing and I am mostly wondering if it means in future maps you only show areas that were both claimed and occupied for a period of time, rather than just claimed or just occupied. I can only imagine how messy France would be if you went with just occupation, given how much they occupied and who they occupied them with the Napoleonic Wars. And I have to say, you went the extra mile by not including in the Austrian Holland parts of land that were underwater at the time of ownership.

Yes, both claimed and occupied areas will count for this.

As for the Netherlands, even if the 2022 Netherlands wasn't added, I'd still add older Netherlands that didn't own the landmass of, say, Flevoland, since they owned the portion of water that would become Flevoland anyway.
