Alternate Wikipedia Infoboxes V (Do Not Post Current Politics Here)

This is a cool wikibox, but you might want to post it in this thread as current politics aren't allowed on this thread.

I don’t get it, yes the politician are real and it is about an election happening this year, but it has clearly a POD going way back the « previous electoral cycle », these new Australian state shows that. It just happens to be in the same year as we are in, maybe their 2019 look closer to our 2009 in term of geopolitics and technological advancement, or maybe it’s completely unrecognisable

And why are some ignatieff memes allowed, despite being about a current politicians, and some are about the previous electoral cycle. But this masterpiece isn’t.

If the world in the infobox isn’t possible without a POD way back I don’t see how it is current politics

It seems this whole thing has caused enough drama so I'll delete my original post. I don't feel it would be right to repost it anywhere else since it's not about current politics, so it'll just be on my dA, I guess.

Ignatieff last held elected office in 2011— coming up to eight years ago, and two election cycles ago. He's since retired from politics and returned to academia, and doesn't even live in Canada (the country where his actual, real-world political career happened) any longer. He does not constitute a "current politician" in any meaningful sense.

Anyway, I hereby offer my final contribution to Iggymania 2019. As said earlier, this isn't as flashy as my previous ones (1, 2, 3), but I'd like to think this is still an interesting twist. So without further ado…

Michael Grant Ignatieff (/ɪɡˈnætiɛf/; born 12 May, 1947) is a Canadian-born academic and author who is the husband of current Zsuzsanna Zsohár, the current Prime Minister of Hungary.

Zsuzsanna Miléna Zsohár (born 18 August, 1947) is a Hungarian politician serving as Prime Minister of Hungary since 2010. She is the present leader of the Hungarian Socialist Party (MSZP), a post she has held since 2009.

IOTL, Ignatieff was living in London until 2000, when he was offered a job at Harvard as the director of the Carr Center for Human Rights. The timing of this position meant that Ignatieff became a notable foreign policy academic right at the beginning of the War on Terror; his commentary on such matters raised his public profile, and ultimately lead to the Liberal Party wooing him back across the border to be their next prime minister (well, that was the goal).

ITTL, Ignatieff is instead offered (and accepts) a job at the Central European University (based in Hungary). If he comments on the War on Terror at all, he's doing it from a lesser point of authority, essentially just as a private citizen and media-friendly expert (and, you know, he's halfway across the world); thus, he garners no special attention. Meanwhile, Zsohar uses the move to her native Hungary to change careers, moving from publicist to journalism; with an impartial, investigative style picked up in the UK, she becomes a star in a country still working to establish a proper journalistic tradition. In the years following, her hard-hitting interviews make her a widely respected and admired public figure.

Fast forward to 2009, when— as IOTL— the ruling Hungarian Socialist Party (MSZP) is in disarray. The global economic crisis has hit Hungary hard, and the MSZP's ineffective handling of it has lead to the near-collapse of the government as their coalition partner pull out— averted only when the prime minister offers his resignation. Nobody really wants the job, though, and the person they convince to take the reins does so under the strict condition that he won't lead the MSZP into the next election. Still searching for a permanent leader, one member has an idea… why not offer the leadership to someone outside politics, a noted public figure and intellectual who's widely respected? If anyone can turn around the party's fortunes, it would be— who else?— Zsuzsanna Zsohar.

PS: My original idea was to have Zsohar head the Unity alliance that banded together to oppose Orban in 2014… but I was worried that was straying a little too close to current politics, so I shifted her rise back an election. I still like that idea more— and would have preferred to have her as a member of the Hungarian Liberal Party for more parallelism— but as they say in Hungary: ez van, ezt kell szeretni ("this is what it is").

PPS: There's not a lot of biographical information available on Zsohar, so I did have to take a handful of liberties. For instance, I learned that her middle name starts with M, but not what it stands for; and that she's "a few months younger" than Iggy, but nothing more specific. So there's just some shrug-and-guess work at play here. But we'll just agree that that's the work of those devious butterflies, yeah?

That’s a fun twist of things.

Michael Grant "The Professor" Ignatieff (12 May 1947 – 5 June 2011) was a Canadian gangster, drug lord, and narcoterrorist who attained notoriety during the late-2000s as head of the Toronto Cartel. A historian by trade, Ignatieff held several teaching positions across Europe and North America before turning to criminal practices in 2006. Ignatieff would begin minor smuggling operations between the Canadian-American border in his home district of Lakeshore, often transporting firearms, cannabis, and contraband across the Great Lakes. Eventually, his criminal empire would grow and engage in larger smuggling operations, transporting cocaine, meth, and heroin across the Americas. Later in his career, Ignatieff began to expand his criminal network outside of Toronto to gain a monopoly in the Atlantic drug trade.

During this period, a major rival emerged in the form, Stéphane Dion, head of 'La Mafia Québécoise' (The Quebec Mafia). A former Parisian gangster, Dion would return to his homeland of Quebec during the late '90s to partake in the illegal drug trade. However, Dion's rivalry towards separatist militias and terror groups decreased his popularity in the criminal underworld of Quebec. Ignatieff would use Dion's unpopularity to his advantage, striking deals with local separatist groups to weaken the Mafia's grip over local cartels. During December 10th, 2008, Dion was assassinated by a car-bombing orchestrated by Ignatieff and the Quebec Liberation Front. His death would mark the beginning of the Toronto Cartel's control over the Canadian drug market and Ignatieff's rise to infamy.

Ignatieff's control over the eastern seaboard would mark the height of his criminal career. However, multiple anti-drug campaigns led by Prime Minister Russell Williams weakened the power of local cartels as government-funded paramilitary groups began slaughtering suspected cartel members in the streets. Increasing government pressure would force cartels to battle for dominance as the drug market became a more risky investment. Created in the early 2000s, the Calgary Boys had become prominent force in the Canadian drug trade infamous for their rapid growth. Led and founded by Stephen "Big Steve" Harper, the cartel began its push into Ignatieff-controlled territory, sparking the most violent turf wars in Canadian history.

Harper and Ignatieff would battle for dominance as Harper began to rise in popularity amongst those disenfranchised with the Ignatieff-led cartel. This prompted many rival gangs to take advantage of the chaos and grow their criminal empires. The most infamous of these were known as the "Dippers" led by "Mad" Jack Layton. During a gang shootout at High Park, Ignatieff was assassinated by an unknown sniper and would later due from his wounds, ensuring Harper's dominance over the Toronto Cartel. After his death, the Toronto Cartel would be placed under the control of Robbie Rae before being absorbed by the Trudeau crime family. Under the control of "Prince" Justin Trudeau, the Cartel would destroy much of Harper's criminal empire, effectively monopolising the Canadian drug trade.

Now this is bloody brilliant. The concept alone is funny, but recasting the Canadian political scene as drug wars puts it above and beyond. Excellent work.

Scandinavian Germans consist of ethnic German who are native or who migrated to the Scandinavian Union. Scandinavian Germans natively live mostly in the German-majority constituent Duchy of Holstein, where two-thirds of them live, as well as the german majority Dominion of Pomerania, the Southern counties of the Kingdom of Denmark, belonging to the historical Duchy of Schleswig and descendant of Middle-Age german settlers in the current Kingdom of Estonia-Livonia. Significant communities exist all across the union, particularly in the Øresund Metropolitan Area, Stockholm and to a smaller extent, the Scandinavian oversea territories.

While many Scandinavians speak german, as it is often taught in school, German Scandinavian often take pride in both their origins and country. Holsteiner writers such as Thomas Mann, Theodor Storm or Margarete Böhme helped to make German an equal to the Norwegian Language or Finnish inside the Union - Not quite comparable to Danish or Swedish however, and are well known in all the German Speaking countries and communities of Europe and the World.

Regional language policies help german to thrive, and there is almost no assimilation by the larger Scandinavian population, mainly thanks to the teaching of german in schools all across the Union, and the economic importance of the German countries. Germans usually learn Danish or Swedish at an early age in schools, although many people in the hinterland of Holstein and Pomerania cannot speak other languages, as it doesn't reduce their opportunities if they lives close to other german countries such as Hamburg, Hannover or Prussia.

Holstein is home to many industries as well as the Kiel Canal. World leading companies such as the shipbuilder Schweffel & Howaldt or the aircraft manufacturer Voss-werke trace their origins and keep their heaquarter in the region, which is at the intersection of the North-Western Germanic connurbation and the Scandinavian Strait Industrial Region, home to over 10 million people and one of the leading urban area in the world for its innovation and dynamism.

Pomerania has some of the most popular sea resort of the Union and the Baltic coast and welcomes over a million Scandinavian, Prussian, German and Polish tourists each summer. The carribean territories of St-Thomas and St-John have nearly 15% of german population thanks to their attractiveness for tourism.
