Bill Daley served as Mayor of Chicago for 23 years following the sudden death of Mayor Harold Washington which, as per the Chicago constitution, forced an early election. Daley was just 45 at the time. Daley initially ran under the Progress Party, and won a narrow majority defeating the Christian Democrat Harold Froelich, and the Minority Action George W Collins. Many in the minority community felt robbed and that Washington was assassinated by the Daley Machine, who had run Chicago since the 1930’s. It was also alleged that Daley had used race-baiting in his campaign, however he was able to deflect these claims by shifting criticism to Harold Froelich who actively pandered to voters in the suburbs and more rural regions such as Janeville by using racist ads and campaigns. However many in the minority communities still viewed Daley as a racist and that he orchestrated Washington’s death. Daley as a result worked very little with Minority Action, and more with the Christian Democrats. As a result Chicago’s inner city began to deteriorate rapidly and the Minority Action Party began to disintegrate. By the 1985 election Minority Action held virtually no political power, and the Christian Democrats admired Daley so much that they merged into Together!, a broad tent coalition that had no clear ideology. And while it did include blacks and Latinos, their roles were minimal and more important roles were filled by whites. This coalition functioned well for roughly 10 years, but the increase neglect of the cities began to show. Violent crime was astonishingly high and gangs began to form on racial lines. Relations between the White, Black, and Latino community were non-existent, and as the crime from the cities spilled out to places South Bend, Janesville, Rockford, and Sheboygan, and even into the neighboring nations of Superior, Canada, and Ohio. However Daley’s Together! remained very popular among whites as they saw it as a buffer against crime, and the Daley administration began strict crime enforcement policies in Chicago’s inner city. Curfews were implemented, police were heavily armed and received support from the army, and checkpoints were set up. This outraged the Innercity, and they formed the Innercity Party lead by John H Sununu and Bobby Rush, however this trans-racial party saw little support in the election of 2000 and soon dissolved. Daley however did end the Curfew, but other measures remained in place much to the approval of the conservative wing of Together!. However Daley’s government would crumble under the weight of Depression 2008, called in Chicago the Seizure. Chicago's economy was heavily white-collar among the white community and relied based on international corporations, banking, international travel, international trade, and tourism. Chicago was one of the worst hit country by Depression 2008. Unemployment rose to nearly 35%, and in Innercity it was almost 50%. Daley’s administration began to try and administer food, but gangs would often rob delivery trucks to feed their family and community. The government was overwhelmed and under prepared. Daley announced he would not run for re-election in January 2009. His last two years in office saw his approval rating plummet, his Together! Destroyed and splintered, and his ability to govern nonexistent.
CPS; Chicagoland Transformative Protectionary Socialism Party, better known as Kips, was founding out the dying chaos of Daley administration. Formed around the smooth talking, charismatic, charming Daniel Savage. Savage blamed the turmoil on blacks and gays. The former he blamed for destroy Chicagoland’s safety, the later he blamed for destroying Chicagoland’s economy. He demanded that they pay for this and pledged to institute harsh policies against them, such as restricting the type of employment they can have, and where they can live. While this received strong condemnation abroad and by the GCRS and ALEF, this proved surprisingly popular by a country virtually at war with itself and desperate for radical change and a man who promised to make it better. Savage had been vocal against them decrying the GCRS and ALEF has “disgusting mongrels” and have pledge to “wash away the blights of our city”. Many compared him to the now deposed, totalitarian Governour LePage of Arcadie, which Savage took as a compliment. Despite his obvious strong totalitarian and right-wing leanings, Savage was able to seize power peacefully in the election of 2010 by forging an alliance with the support PAP and alliance with the moderate Peace & Order Party.
Peace & Order Party; The spiritual successor of the Christian Democrats and Together!, it is a broadly right wing party formed around Alderman of Janesville, Paul Ryan, who had been a Daley ally. Peace & Order advocated for, Peace & Order, they argued that minorities needed to be assisted, but kept in their place and strong action must be taken against crime. They ultimately failed to accomplish much, and to many only seemed like the friendly version of Kips, which did help them electorally as they came in Second just ahead of their main enemy, the radical Greasers.
GCRS; Greater Chicago Radical Socialist Party, or Greasers, (a derogatory term for factory workers and a pronunciation of their acronym) was one of the older parties of Chicago, but has largely been irrelevant. It became a decent force with the election of firebrand Jan Schakowsky as leader. Known for her fiery speeches and tirades against the Daley’s, the Bankers, and Savage. Schakowsky frequently feuded with Savage, saying “Never in history has a person’s given name been a better descriptor of them. A scoundrel, a brute, a fiend, a Savage”. She has been compared to everyone from Lenin, to President Sanders of Adirondack, to Hitler, to Jesus. Her appeal was widespread among the white working class, but this group was too small and only garnered her third place and she failed to appeal to minorities, who mostly voted for their respective parties.
PAP; Partido Aztlan Popular(Aztlan People’s Party) is the larger minority party of the two in Chicagoland and serve solely to provide a political voice to the Latinos of Chicago. A voice which has become known to be misogynistic, homophobic, and anti-black. They filed the least woman out of any Chicago party. They embrace Machismo as a doctrine, not just a culture, this has caused them to be condemned by the Greasers, MLR, and ALEFs, who they have openly brawled in the streets of Chicago.
ALEF; Afrikan Liberation, Equality, and Freedom Party, the African Interest Party of Chicago, and an ally of the Greasers, they are similar to PAP in their function, racial politics, that some (Kips and Peace & Order) call the political arm of the cities gangs. Their support came from Chicagoland’s small ancestral African population, and perform as such. They would have come in last if not for the MLR
MLR; Moderate Liberal Reform Party. Almost entirely irrelevant. A social democrat, socially progressive party lead by the openly gay Pete Buttigieg, that and their lilac color lead them to be considered the “gay party”, and became a pariah for Savage. They performed dismally and Buttigieg retired from politics as the party dissolved, with the few members mostly joining the Greasers.
Aftermath;
Savage stayed true to his campaign, and immediately instituted martial law in most of Innercity and political raids on the Greasers and MLR, claiming they harbored dangerous foreign agents. Peter Buttigieg went mysteriously missing and his body found in a farm outside of Janesville. Janesville is believed to be the home of Savage’s main “Order Maintenance Unit” where many of the “foreign agents” are believed to be held and tortured. He also drafted many unemployed African Chicagoans to work on projects for Outercity and the Waterfront. These programs are enforced heavily and those who do not comply or are caught escaping are sent to Order Maintenance Units. Braun was order to report to one of these programs, rumored to be akin to slavery, but she was able to sneak out of the Country and has bounced around several different countries seeking asylum, and is currently living in London, United Kingdom. Schakowsky has also fled to Mobile, Escambia. The Peace & Order Party and PAP were sent ultimatums to merge with the Kips or be labelled “Subversive agents” and sent to Peace Maintenance Units. Peace & Order obliged and Paul Ryan is now a minor ranking official in the Health & Education department. However PAP refused, its leaders arrested and put on a trail foreign observers called “A sham and a tragic miscarriage of justice”. Gutierrez was accused of plotting to overthrow the government and assassinate Savage, with his entire trial cast live. He was also accused that his PAP party was funded by and agents of the Cuban and Mexican governments. He was sentenced to death and his execution widely publicized. Savage has also been postured against his neighbors. Trading stern remarks with Ohio, demanding that they hand over the Toledo strip, which they did in 2017. They have also threatened war with Superior over the issue of the Ports of Milwaukee and Chicago, which they have been using for free under Daley. A tentative agreement was negotiated by Regent Grassley of Iowa, but Superiorans are regularly harassed and abused at the ports. In the 2015 election Savage faced no opposition, and his party took out the few remaining Alderman who opposed him. He has since taken near total control of Chicagoland and heavily oppresses its minorities, which has caused a flood of refugees from the city. The UN called it the “Greatest humanitarian crisis North America has ever seen”. The press is restricted and people regularly go missing for “Redevelopment”. Many worry that Chicago has been set on an irreversible path similar to countless South American countries, and some worry that the Regime of Terror and strong man politics will expand further and if does if it can be stopped.
