RMS Liverpool is a British transatlantic ocean liner, which has served as a member of the
White Star Fleet since 2007, replacing the
RMS Monastic on the Monday morning service to Boston. The ship is the first non-flagship to sail the Monday route in the White Star Line's history.
RMS Liverpool is a member of the
London Class, which is 20,000 gross tons smaller than the
Melodic Class which serves as the current fleet's flagships. She has a top speed of 46 knots, with a cruising speed of 42 knots, making her one of the mid-range ships in terms of cruising speed for transatlantic voyages.
The London Class is fully powered by electricity, with her generation facilities able to produce a maximum power output of 270,000 hp (201,000 kW) using a combination of their high-efficiency solar panel array, regenerative ocean turbines, and diesel generators.
The ship offers a comfortable service across the Atlantic, and is one of the few transatlantic ships to offer personal verandahs to passengers. These suites are expensive, and they sell poorly during most voyages. A drydock is scheduled for 2025 to remove these verandah suites, and replace them with standard window cabins, which will further allow for drag reduction across the ship's superstructure.
RMS Liverpool was designed and built by
Harland & Wolff Shipyards in Belfast, United Kingdom. The shipyard has long supplied the White Star Line with their ships. She was floated out in late 2006, and finished her sea trials by the middle of 2007, when she was then put into revenue service. She has maintained her weekly schedule with few interruptions since her launch.
The ship's hull was designed to be as lightweight as possible, while still being strong enough to withstand any weather in the Atlantic Ocean. The ship has further been streamlined to allow minimal drag from wind resistance while traveling across the sea.
In August 2023, the RMS Liverpool struck an unknown object during her voyage to Boston, and was forced to divert to Halifax, Nova Scotia. Upon arrival it was discovered several holes had been punctured in her hull, which will necessitate an extensive drydock repair.
