You said something about “fascist Ukraine”. Is this a far future Ukraine gone rouge or is the Russian propaganda version of Ukraine that is branded fascist for resisting the Russians?

Orange Revolution is delayed and crushed by Russian forces aiding the Ukrainian government. Ukrainian Fascist movement grows, and ends up stirring up trouble into a coup that topples the Ukrainian government, prompting surrounding states to declare war.

ASB idea I've had kickin' around in my head for a while. The USA doesn't enter WWI (at least at first), and the war goes underground.
Tech is more advanced weapon wise, although very steampunk-esque.
The Germans are mechanically altering their soldiers, and the European Entente are genetically/physically altering theirs.
The whole world is pretty much a hellhole at this point
Someone should write a book/story based on this.
Is of brilliant.

Interesting, though it seems like Illinois, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania would likely be at the top of the list for socialist revolts given they had already been the sites of major labour uprisings not so many years before that.

The map depicts 1974, that's 57 years after the PoD,
Im not sure if socialist rebellions will survive for 60 years if they're just rebellions/revolts
Ah, I missed that. I suppose one could argue that it's the areas with the historical revolts that would see the biggest clampdown so it would have moved elsewhere by that point.

Nice map! I want to see what the rest of the solar system looks like.

I only point this out due to your last statement, but the scarcity of phosphorous beyond Earth has been exaggerated. For example, Mars has a higher concentration of phosphorous than Earth. Not readily bioavailable, but it would share that in common with Io.
Linked article: "Overall, Mars also contains higher concentrations of volatile phosphorus than Earth, sitting further from the sun. This suggests that early Martian oceans would have been a better source of vital phosphorus than Earth’s seas."

In any case, ignore my nay-saying and show us the whole solar system!
In this universe, Io's gimmick is that it has phosphorous-producing life. This is the main reason it has more than one small city. Plus, the person playing Mars doesn't seem to know that Mars has phosphorous, or if they do they want to use it for themselves. A bit metagamey, but...

(And yeah that's why I can't show the rest of Solsys- it's a roleplay setting.)

Yeah, the rebellions have shifted from state to state, although they've been most constant in the South.

My latest revision for my Kaiserreich-type scenario. I'm mainly concerned with how the division of Austria-Hungary went. I'm very sure Hungary would not simply allow Croatia to become a separate kingdom and lose sea access.

How does Austria cope with having almost twice as many Italians as it does Germans?

The WWI genetic alterations vs mechanical alterations thing is actually a part of the YA AH novel series Leviathan. It's really good, even if it totally ignores butterflies. The underground thing seems really cool and original, though.

I never got intolong term World War 1 timeline's.

WW2, and 3, I can get and like, but with World War 1 not so much. Given the lack of a massive ideological gulf between the two sides, or war of annihilation mentality (like the Second World War's eastern front).

I can't see them fighting each other with very real threats for much longer. (The Reds, Japan, Islamist Rebels.)

This was going to be my entry into the "Ideal European borders" thread, but it was basically just a map of 'whatever I think is most interesting at the time I'm making that area of the map' so when I came up with an actual concept for ideal borders this lost it's purpose. I still finished it up though, since I'd already put the effort into it, and decided to share it in here.

To give a brief run down:
  • Norway is a constitutional monarchy that still posses Greenland and Iceland. Maybe it got them from Denmark when they seperated ITTL, I dunno.
  • Denmark is pretty much OTL, minus any territories other than it's homeland.
  • Sweden is smaller than OTL due to Finland taking a small chunk off of it and Gotland seceding.
  • Gotland, which I forgot to put in the key because I'm a fucking idiot, seceded to become its own country at one point because why not? I have a minor soft spot for the place.
  • What I called the 'Uralic Fed.' in the key is actually the Confederate Republics of Finland, Karelia, Estonia and Lappland. It's often called the Uralic Confederation, or simply Finland (due to its dominance in the confederation), for shorthand.
  • Britain is the United Kingdom of Greater Britain and Northern Ireland like it is OTL, minus the Channel Islands.
  • It's the Republic of Ireland. Still fiercely staying independent of the English despite speaking their language, same as OTL.
  • The Republic of the Channel Islands, or the United Islands of the Channel, are independent because... I dunno, I felt like it.
  • Brittany is independent because everybody loves those celtic folks, eh?
  • You've got France with, overall, less territory than OTL despite gaining Wallonia. They should be glad I didn't balkanize them properly.
  • The real Großdeutschland is here motherfuckers, with Germany holding Austria and the Dutch.
  • Say hello to Greater Switzerland. The political system is getting a bit unwieldy with all these extra cantons, but they're managing for now.
  • The Basque are independent, and they didn't even have to resort to terrorism to do it ITTL. Probably.
  • Aragon is quite miffed that it hasn't gotten all its historical territory, but at least this way it's actually mostly speaking Aragonese.
  • Much like real life, the Catalans want to be independent. Unlike real life, they are currently internationally recognized as such.
  • Galicia is independent but, along with Asturias, is considering federating with Portugal for primarily economic reasons.
  • Asturias is somewhat confused as to why its independent, if its telling the truth.
  • Portugal is apparently doing well enough economically that it's two new(?) neighbours are contemplating federation with it. Or maybe that's just code for "we still have a bigger army than you two fuckers and we want the territory you took back"?
  • Spain is stubbornly insisting that it is indeed Spain and not just Castille.
  • The Republic of Italy is wondering if they should bother trying to claim their historical territories in the north and the east. Signs point towards no.
  • Tunisia is (apart from a Berber-speaking area) restricted to the parts of North Africa which actually speak the Tunisian dialect of Arabic, but they also have Malta so maybe that balanced out?
  • Morocco is happy that Spain doesn't own a bunch of coastal cities.
  • Algeria is pretty much the same as OTL.
  • Libya is trying to figure out the best way to annex Tunisia and they're currently leaning towards a Pan-African coup de'tat followed by puppetization, then annexation. You know, the peaceful option.
  • 'Ch-Sl-Si' is actually Chzechoslovakisilesia and it's a very decentralized federation. There's a push for further decentralization in having Chzechia split into Bohemia and Moravia.
  • Poland is rather upset about not having Silesia, Kashubia or really any of their eastern claims.
  • Kashubia is, justifiably, paranoid about Poland invading them. They're independent for reasons I don't pretend to know.
  • Carniola, also known as Slovenia, could only be happier if they owned Istria.
  • Hungary isn't quite as upset about their territory as OTL, but they still want Transylvania back at the very least.
  • Yugoslavia is doing better than OTL in regards to ethnic tensions due to being smaller and less Serb-dominated.
  • Albania is bigger and somewhat more prosperous than OTL, although they also don't have as many bunkers so you win some and you lose some I guess.
  • Nobody in Eastern Europe is particularly happy about Ruthenia's existence but they have Great Power patronage for... some reason, I don't know what.
  • Bulgaria is somewhat annoyed at not having Salonica or Tsarigrad, but they're happy to wait. For now.
  • Romania's pretty much the same as OTL despite having Moldova.
  • The Heleno-Turkish Federation is probably going to collapse in an extremely messy fashion in the near future. Honestly, how it even came into existence in the first place is beyond me.
  • There's some discontent amongst Latvians - calls for greater autonomy and even independence gain more voices every month - but the threat of Russia keeps Lithuania as a single, unitary state for the time being.
  • Belarus generally isn't happy with how things are. Some want to merge with or annext Lithuania for historical reasons, others want to do the same with Ukraine. Some want to be less dominated by their neighbours but remain independent, others want to become part of Russia again. The only thing the people don't want is their current situation, really.
  • Ukraine is bigger than OTL, but due to Stalin not existing ITTL they have less ethnic tensions. Less, not none.
  • The Tsardom of Russia, under a different dynasty than the Romanovs though I'm not sure what the identity of that dynasty is, is super pissed about all heir lost territory.
  • Abkhazia exists and it's happy about that.
  • Karachay-Cherkessia is also quite happy about its independence.
  • Kabardino-Balkaria is ecstatic about the fact it's not part of another country.
  • Georgia is less than enthused about the fact that the three prior countries exist since it was Georgian blood spilled to free those territories only for them to seperate, but they're pacified by the fact that they got land from the Ottomans ITTL.
  • Kurdistan is actually something of a hellhole ITTL, with them taking notes from the former Ottoman Empire on how to genocide minorities.
  • Iraq is pretty much the same as OTL, I think.
  • The Levantine Federation is, well... it's working well enough for the moment.
  • Nabataea is basically ITTL's Kingdom of Transjordan, though I forgot to give it the right colour.

I did this using @Skallagrim's SUCK colour scheme, btw.

It's what, 10 million Italians to 6 million Austrians? Something like that.

I don't know what the figures for 1914 are, but in 1848 that area of Italy had 5 million people, the same as Austria (2017 Austria plus Slovenia and the Trentino-etc.). The division of Lombardy makes it a bit tricky to calculate the exact numbers - you'd need some province-level data.

All the great feedback I got for my last map combined with shitty weather and a hangover inspired me to make this cute little map of a cute little country over the weekend.
Set in the in the same scenario as the Germany map.

Translation for the text in the upper left corner.
The Duchy of Bukowina was separated from the Hapsburg Kronland Galicia-Lodomeria and established as its own Kronland. Until the outbreak of the Balkan War the Territory saw a rapid increase in population. Not only due to the large amount of German and Jewish settlers, but also the large autonomy granted by Vienna and the peaceful coexistence of the different ethnic groups.

After the collapse of the Hapsburg crown and the division of Galicia the duchy stood before a fork in the road. Division between or direct annexation into the Russian Tsardom or the Romanian Kingdom seemed immanent. Thanks to the diplomatic skill of the national council and the will of the people this fate could be averted.

Today the Duchy of Bukowina exists as the so-called "Switzerland of the East". A multi-ethnic state that values it's neutrality and that's independence is guaranteed by the Great Powers. Ruthenians, Romanians, Germans, Jews and other groups coexist peacefully and express their political will through the National Assembly and the People's Assembly. The decisions of these Assemblies is supervised and implemented by the Duke, who's hereditary position is confirmed by the People's Council. His sole responsibility is to ensure the lasting peace between the different groups of Bukowina.

If you have any questions feel free to ask. Feedback is always appreciated.
