I made a Prussian Republican flag in an old version of Flagmaker

Good day. Sorry to bother you, but I need a redesign. One of my colleagues writes a timeline, and it seems to me that the flag he chose is... bad. Some people think that the matter could be corrected by adding a third color (for example gold). What do you think? Can anyone help? The goal is a "people's democratic"/pro-Soviet Greece:

Make the outline smaller and maybe add a red star

Maybe a thin red old gold line on the outer edge of the triangle.

In this world, Napoleon manages to defeat the Russians, at least for a while
As it was done in Warsaw, it was done in Kiev. A Grand Duchy, vassal of the French, is established.

The flag is, of course, a tricolour.

Blah blah 2050s world i made up
5 flags from the same world: first 4 are the flags of the former UK states in that same world, all Monarchies under the Royal Family except for Northern Ireland, which is under a UN-sponsored provisional Temporary Republic overseen by England, Scotland and Ireland until they can decide what to do with the 6 counties. The fifth flag is the Caribbean Federation, made up of basically every Independent Caribbean Country except for Jamaica, Cuba, DR and Haiti unifying against Climate change. This world-building is not meant to be political in any way.

Reminds me one attempt I made for a flag for "Russians from Ukraine" or "Ukrarusskiye" (as a cultural flag, they are not interested in separatism or leave Ukraine, thank you very much) but my edition uses the Russian pattern of stripes XD good.

Two points:

1. Including the word "provisional" in the name of a Northern Irish state would never happen unless you want to cause riots, since that particular word is strongly associated with the IRA in NI. The main Irish republican group active in NI during the Troubles was called the Provisional IRA, for which reason IRA members are commonly referred to as "provos" there. I'd suggest you simply go with "UN Mandate" or something like that.

2. The Irish on the flag is grammatically nonsensical; also "Uladh" means "Ulster" rather than "Northern Ireland" (the two aren't interchangeable; Cavan, Donegal and Monaghan are very much part of Ulster and very much not part of Northern Ireland). The correct form would've been "Poblacht Shealadach Náisiúin Aontaithe an Tuaiscirt Éireann", but as permy first point, I would suggest "Sainordú Náisiúin Aontaithe an Tuaiscirt Éireann" (Mandate).

Since I mentioned that previously, here is the UkraRusskiye flag:

Due to the circumstances surrounding the fall of the Russian Empire at the beginning of the 20th century, the recently formed Ukrainian Republic inherited a large population of Russians in its eastern zone. While over the years those dissatisfied with this development would move to Crimea or Russia proper, the majority would remain in Eastern Ukraine, embracing the fact of being Ukrainian Russians. As time went by, the use of the white-blue-gold flag would emerge among this "ukrarusskiye" community as a sign of cultural and regional identity. It is common to see it in local cities waving next to the Ukrainian flag.

GDUflag.png

This is the flag of the GUD from 2050 in a very optimistic future-history project I am working on. The GDU (Global Democratic Union) is a successor to the UN with much more teeth, that as the name suggests only accepts democratic countries as members. It is militaristically aggressive in the promotion of liberal social values if a bit economically lefty and basically declares open season on undemocratic non member states. Through a whirlwind process from its founding in 2030 the GDU reaches universal global membership (only 96 countries left by then) in less than 20 years.

Anyways enough rambling, I'm here to talk about the flag. In designing this flag there were two main elements I wanted to include: The globe symbol, and a 2-1 ratio of blue to green in the flag, reflecting the fact that the earth around 2/3rds oceans and 1/3rd land. I also wanted to include the colour yellow to represent the Sun.

I have made nearly 40 different iterations of the flag, some featuring other design elements, and I'm far from 100% settled on this one, though it is my current favourite.

I'm putting some of my favourite runner-ups as thumbnails and I would love feedback on them. Anything from design theory from off the cuff opinions of what you thing looks good and what doesn't is appreciated. A couple other common themes are my conflict between the 2:3 and 1:2 aspect ratios (the horizontal tribune solves this problem nicely as it can be displayed with any aspect ratio and looks pretty much the same), and indecision on weather the globe should be white or yellow. I badly want to use a 1:2 ratio and a flag with a Canadian Pale in the centre because, well I'm Canadian. It just doesn't look as good or mesh as well with most of my other design elements though.

The first design we could call "vertical triband with yellow globe" and the runners up would be:

"Canadian Pale bicolour with yellow globe"

"Asymmetric tricolour with white globe"

"Tricolour with White globe"

"Canadian Pale tricolour with white globe"

and lastly "Horizontal triband with yellow globe"

I have seen many redesigns of the flag of the USSR and its SSRs--but I have yet to see anyone redesign the flag of the Bukharan Soviet Socialist Republic (1920-1924), which replaced the centuries-old Emirate of Bukhara with a Marxist-Leninist State. The reason it is little-known is because it only existed for four years before being bisected between what would become Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. It had never been redesigned before, so I figured I would just go ahead and do it myself.

The color scheme of the original flag was unique compared to its counterparts, so I just rearranged the colors a bit to enhance contrast. Then I moved on to designing the BSSR's communist party logo, which combines a Bukharan crescent and star with a socialist sickle and star.

Red, of course, stands for socialism as well as the Karakum ("Red Sand") desert; yellow represents the abundant produce of Bukhara's soil, while green, the main color used by the preceding Emirate of Bukhara, represents the Bukharan tradition and people. The crescent in the logo no longer (officially) has any sort of religious significance, but rather is a standard symbol of the Bukharan nation. The sickle and star, predictably represents...you guessed it--socialism.

The first variant I've already explained, but the second variant is just the party flag, sporting the classic colors of comradeship.

Also, it is I, Ṭahmāsp Mirzā. No, I wasn't banned or kicked or anything like that. I just lost my password and couldn't figure out a way to get back into my old account. I haven't been back on alternatehistory.com in a while, and I figured I needed a reason to make flags. Hello again!

Karakum ("Red Sand")

One issue, Karakum means black sand, not red sand.

I suppose, in this timeline, the Soviets never divvied up Central Asia as they did in our timeline, ultimately resulting in far less enclaves and border conflicts in our modern world.

Hmm... I suppose that might be the case but it would also mean ethnically mixed states. Especially since with the way politics went in most post-Soviet states ethnic coexistence that worked out like Switzerland or somewhat functional and peaceful like with Belgium would be an unlikely result. Of course TTL might not have the Turkmen or Uzbek etc identities develop as OTL and perhaps Khiva and Bukhara are able to be united enough but it might be an issue. (Thought Tajiks are rather different, being Indo-Persian rather than Turkic)

Also what do you think is the flag adopted by Bukhara will look like after dissolution of the USSR, this one but with the sickle removed? Or something different?

That is a very good point my friend! I should have realized that. I don't know why I thought it was "red sand."

I mean, regarding the whole ethnic tensions thing, one of the issues that the Soviets created in Central Asia was forcing people of varying ethnic origins into a set nationality that was defined (or re-defined) by them. Bukhara was always a multi-ethnic state; Uzbekistan, likewise, is a multi-ethnic state, but the Soviet Union basically told everyone in Uzbekistan--even those who weren't necessarily Uzbeks--that they were now Uzbeks. When compared to the Soviet policy of basically making borders and forcing people of different ethnicities to consider themselves to be one nationality (e.g., you live in the Turkmen SSR, so you must be a Turkmen, and not a Sart), Bukhara is a far more organic political entity. Obviously it would have some ethnic tensions and problems, and, no, it wouldn't be like Belgium, but you wouldn't see that horrible Soviet border gore that has caused so many problems for the independent nations of central Asia in recent decades, nor that sort of artificial nationalism that has sprung from the USSRs nation-engineering.

If you would like to see a modern flag, I could make one. I think it would be a different-looking one, however, although I think it might use the same color scheme.

EDIT: Perhaps I will make a completely new flag, but here is a lazy version.
