Doctor Who was a British science fiction drama series that aired on BBC 1 from November 23, 1963, to October 29, 1966. The show depicted a man named "The Doctor" (William Hartnell) and various companions as they went on adventures throughout time and space in a vessel shaped like a police box known as a "TARDIS".

Its premiere on November 23, 1963 was considered disastrous, with views siphoned off due to coverage of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy the day prior. The BBC did plan to re-air the 1st episode a few days later, but didn't. However, viewership slowly began to increase, and as a result, BBC executives gave the series a 2nd season. A 3rd was greenlit in 1965 despite the fact that views stagnated during the second season, and a 4th was allowed in 1966 despite of viewership falling sharply. It was suddenly cancelled in late 1966 after 2 stories, causing the series finale of the show to be rushed. A significant amount of episodes were wiped in the decades afterward, causing most of the serials to be incomplete, and therefore, unfit to be released or broadcast,

The show fell into obscurity until the mid 1990s, when it gained a cult following after several episodes resurfaced and found their way onto DVD and VHS. This has led to an increased interest in finding the missing episodes. However, only 6 episodes have been found so far, all of which from private collectors. Though, several small segments have been found in media (especially the children's TV show Blue Peter), the archives of the Australian Classification Board, who cut them out of the reels so they were considered suitable enough for broadcast, and from other private collectors.

Since all episodes exist as amateur audio recordings and stills exist from almost all of the episodes (save for Marco Polo, Mission to the Unknown, and The Massacre), the BBC has set out and tried to reconstruct some of the missing episodes (especially the ones with existing fragments). They have also recently contacted various archives throughout the world about episodes, giving some hope that more episodes can be found.

The Kingdom of Hawaii has survived with two major political parties, the National Liberal and Kuokoa for both the left and the right respectively. Kuokoa is the older of the two, being embroiled as a pro independence party, and much admired with freedom fighters during the Imperial German occupation throughout the 1920s. Eventually, the headaches by the local rebels convinced Kaiser Wilhelm to formally grant the colony independence, with the last german forces leaving via a rocket launch in 1949. With the absence of the Germans, the political vacuum was hastily filled with the older Kuokoa and the newly minted National Liberal party.

Kuokoa
Steadfast since 1909 with the merger of the Anti-Annexation and Independent Parties into the conservative powerhouse today, Hawaiian politics was shaped much by their actions, with many early Prime Ministers coming from it until the 1960s with the implementation of a two party system. It's administration is also infamous for accepting numerous german refugees and colonial expatriates from the unsteady German empire, including war criminals such as Otto Dirlewanger and Adolf Eichmann. It's biggest influence was the tenure of self proclaimed Emperor of America Ronald Reagan, who opted to flee lest he be murdered by vengeance hungry mobs for the mushroom clouds that loomed above Dallas and New York City. He would argue for supply side economics and preside over a record economic boom in the state, buoyed by international investment and business friendly policies being implemented. However, it was sent to a surprise upset in the 2017 general election, becoming the opposition and downgrading former Prime Minister Linda Lingle to the title of Vice Prime Minister.

It's major factions include Goldwater Conservatism, named after the former President of the United States Barry Goldwater, infamously known for glassing Beijing "to test Mao's resolve in Vietnam." Hawaii was luckily spared, and during a quick false name change and the application of a fake mustache, the Arizonan became a citizen of the Hawaiian Kingdom. Finding much with the burgeoning libertarian movement within Hawaii, he shaped the Kuokoa party and was elected chairman as appreciation and acknowledgement of his efforts.
Today, Kuokoa remains in opposition, though has big plans for next election, seeking to take back their majority in moderating their conservative issues while buoying kitchen table issues in front of potential voters.

National Liberal
The little brother from another mother to Kuokoa, National Liberal has been the ruling party, controlling the Prime Minister, majorities in the House of Nobles and Representatives and an impressive handful of Provincial Governors under their banner. It's shrinking conservative faction has all been shut out of power, with those disillusioned with the far left ideals opting to look to the opposition for answers. In place of it's conservative wing rose a far right environmentalist, copying many ideals cherished in Aloha Aina, with a staunch defense of mother nature through militant and right wing actions.

It has also been the subject to german influence, with Herman Ige Goring, named after the former Prussian President, wooing the hotly contested and fiercely fluctuating german-hawaiian vote. The point of their headquarters being within the old German Harbor settlement of Wilhelmshaven is abundantly clear in it's purpose, to suction enough german-hawaiians to keep their majority. However, these people must downplay the association with environmental fascism, as many are descendants of religious minorities who had to flee thanks to far right regimes within Germany or Austria-Hungary. The National Liberal has a strong lock on the localized african community, with an often 70 to 28 split in favor of NL over Kuokoa. However, the tiny population has not proven enough to flip a few seats, though altering demographics within the Kingdom seem to be making it closer to a reality in future elections.

Britt Herod Reid was born with the proverbial golden spoon in his hand. The son of legendary newspaper magnate Edward Herod Reid, Britt grew up in absolute luxury in Reid Castle, beneath the golden California sun. Spoilt beyond believe, Britt spent most of his childhood and formative years spending his father's money on every item of pleasure he could get his hands on.

That all changed suddenly when, in 1934, his father dropped dead. Reid was left in charge of a major newspaper conglomarate. In order to calm investors and shareholders, he decided to personally take the helm over one of the most prosperous of his newspapers: The Daily Sentinel.

That lasted for a while. But soon enough Reid grew bored of the serious life, desiring to partake in the thrill of the forbidden once more. At this point the 1930's Vigilante phenomenon was in full swing, and Reid saw a chance to capitalize on that. But there were arleady plenty of men and women running around fighting crime. That was old news, and he desired to be unique. And what could be more unique then a masked villain, taking down the competition? Fighting crime from a different angle.

It was around the same time that Britt met Kato Miyagi, an immigrant for Okinawa and stuntman trying to earn a life for himself. Britt was very impressed with the martial skills displayed by Kato, and took him on as his personal assistant. For decades it was rumored around Hollywood that the two were a couple. Nothing was ever said to their face, of course. Not unless one desired to have one's reputation completely destroyed by two dozen different media outlets. But it was a open secret.

The other secret, however, was that the couple were also partners in crime. Operating from Reid's customized "Black Beauty supercar", they would attack criminal venues, ranging from chop shops to mob nightclubs. The word soon spread about the "Green Hornet", master of the Los Angeles criminal underworld. In time, not only the LAPD were hunting down the Hornet, but also every criminal in town, as well as every vigilante.

Reid's fortune allowed the pair a great degree of leeway, managing to have the best tools needed for their jobs, and the best laywers to shut down any public inquiry. At times he would've the Sentinel publish misleading information in order to draw suspicion away from his identity.

The most famous of the Hornet's exploits was certainly the 1947 shootout with gangster Mickey Cohen, wich resulted in the later's death. By the 1950's the pair stated to go into semi-retirement, and suspicion about their activities, personal and criminal, begun to be more broadly aknowledge.

Reid did not take getting old very well. His hedonistic tendencies begun to return, in search of more personal gratification. In 1969, after getting heavily intoxicated in a Hollywood party, Reid decided to challenge Steve McQueen to a car race on the Pacific Coast Highway. McQueen accepted, and Reid promptly drove off a cliff to his death.

In his will Britt Reid left his entire fortune to Kato Miyagi, totaling aroung 4.8 Billion dollars. Kato admitted to the couple's relationship, as well as to their secret identities in 1972, and their biography written by Margot Lane was a global success. In time Kato became very active in the LGBTQ community, donnating millions to AIDS research.

Wouldn't the pilot episode exist in TTL since the telerecording that exists of it in OTL survived being wiped because it was in a mislabelled film can, or has it just not been found in the BBC's archives in TTL? Either way, this is an interesting TL idea.
I believe it'd be a little bit of both. The pilot episodes would have survived due to it being in a mislabeled film can, but it hasn't been found in the BBC archive due to the can being mislabeled, and nobody bothered to check due to Doctor Who's obscurity.

Born to a modest Laywer family, Doctor Clark Savage Junior was from a young age obcessed with the idea of self improvement. Influenced by a number of authors that covered everything from oriental gurus to eugenics, Clark convinced himself that the purpose of every human being should be to improve oneself, and that such an improvement would inevitably produce a positive impact on their enviroment.

Dedicating himself to sports as well as academics, Savage got accepted into Harvard University with a scholarship, playing for their football team and graduating with honors on the field of Archaeology. Deeply fascinated by different human cultures and how they dealt with the concept of human improvement, he would go on to receive a Ph.D. on the field of societal advancement, before relocating to New York City.

In 1933 Savage decided to assemble a expedition to the Yucatan Peninsula, to explore ancient Mayan ruins. The Expedition ended up uncovering a small isolated mayan community that was being opressed by a local strongman by the name of Victoriano Muerte, more popularly known as "Red Death". Aiding the natives in their insurrection against the would be warlord, Savage was rewarded with a immense cache of hidden gold (located inside one of the newly discovered pyramids), worth about 20 million dollars in 1933 currency (the details of the events vary wildly. While Savage always claimed he received the gold as a token of gratitude, some have questioned it, and some have openly accused him of tomb raiding). The expedition subsequently received worldwide coverage, and Doctor Clark Savage, now popularly nicknamed Doc Savage, became an international celebrity.

Capitalizing on his fame and newfound wealth, Savage rented the 86th floor of the Empire State Building, where he established the Hidalgo Trading Company, meant to fund and organize further expeditions and adventures. Savage would go on to hire a team of specialists on every field, from geography to physics, to develop gadgets and tools for him to use in such expeditions. Aside from his personal cache of gold, Savage received funding from a number of news outlets dedicated to covering his adventures.

His subsequent travels all gained unprecedented media coverage. His 1935 discovery of Greek ruins in the isle of Distante, on the Atlantic Ocean (believed to be Atlantis at the time); his 1936 expedition to northern India in search of Shangri-La, where he would face Thuggee religious fanatics; his 1937 discovery of the Savage Diamond in South Africa, and his 1939 discovery of the tomb of Prester John in Syria all became legendary.

On of the greatest celebrities in the world during the 1930's and 1940's, Doc Savage would sell his stories to Warner Brothers, resulting in a series of cinematic hits from 1940 to 1948. Serving as a consultor, many critics have accused Savage of exagerating his own deeds.

Savage was also known for his own desires for excess possessing a fleet of cars, planes, boats, and mansions across the country. Some of these served his needs, while most were simply for leisure. He also had a number of residencies outside the US, most notably the famous "Fortress of Solitude", his experimental base built in the Arctic (Today Disney's Arcticland). He was also notorious for his 3 marriages to famous Hollywood actresses: Barbara Stanwyck; former vigilante turned actress Ellen Patrick, and Marilyn Monroe in the 1950's. All of which ended in bitter divorce cases.

Though still incredibly famous and wealthy in the 1950's, Savage's popularity begun to fade somewhat. Nevertheless he continued to conduct expeditions, and his book "The Superior Man", published in 1955 would become a international bestseller. It was around this time that Savage became acquainted with Ayn Rand, and her ideology of Objectivism, of which he would become a devout follower.

In the 1960's public attention drifted away from Doc Savage. At the same time he would grow politically involved as ardent critic of the Kennedy Administration, and a staunch supporter of the Goldwater campaign in 1964. In 1966 the spotlight once again turned towards him as Savage became involved in a large Tax fraud scandal, which forced him to sell the majority of his assets and intellectual property. His 1969 authobiography "A Savage Life" underperformed considerably.

In 1972 Doctor Clark Savage would be found dead, a result of a cocaine overdose, in his luxurious Hollywood Hills house, his last remaining residency.

Though deeply beloved for many decades due to his adventures and exploits, public perception of Doc Savage is heavily mixed. Many perceive his adventures to have been exagerated, and accusations of international theft of cultural artifacts remain in contention to this day. His ideas and involvement with Objectivism have also drawn serious criticism. Nevertheless, he remains highly popular with many today, specially among the right and conservative/libertarian circles. His son, Maxwell Savage is an american Senator notorious for his laissez-faire stance. The Hidalgo Trading Company is today the Clark Savage center of technology, a prestigious research institute. To this day, products based or related to the Doc Savage IP are believed to have generated billions of dollars, ranging from blockbuster films, books, toys and attractions.

Isnt he rumored to be related to the Viscount of Greystoke of the era?

That was one of my goals. In someways inspired by Watchmen. This bunch of individuals, some wealthy just wanting to have exitement, some pursuing fame, some traumatized bastards just wanting to inflict pain on criminals. "Vigilantes" irl would be dramatically different from what the pulp shows portrayed them as.

I didn't know that one, but that could be true. Reid is, in the radio show, the great nephew of the Lone Ranger. Here I wanted to do something different. Being a young newspaper magnate in LA, I just figured that the parallels with William Randolph Hearst were too great to pass up.

I think a world where superheroes could thrive would be one where law and order would be difficult to enforce.

What would the 2005 General Election have looked like without Iraq?

IraqFree2005.png

First off, Labour obviously do better against the Conservatives; but they also do better against the Lib Dems without a swing among students and Asians, so they hold seats they lost OTL like Rochdale, Cambridge, and Brent East. Likewise, without Iraq boxing them to the left, the Liberal Democrats do substantially better against the Conservatives, holding all their OTL loses and flipping targets they lost OTL like Orpington, Surrey South West, and Eastbourne. They also successfully pull off their decapitation strategy, knocking off Tim Collins, Oliver Letwin, Theresa May, and of course, Tory Leader Michael Howard; David Davis is the only survivor of the five senior Tories the Lib Dems had targeted (which is, to be entirely honest, down to me finding Davis too interesting a figure to get rid of).

Why does the Liberal party have an eco-fascist faction?
The environmentalist wing of the Liberal Party has the moderate "Don't litter and let's spend money on climate change" faction, and the crazier "Install a dictatorship to preserve mother nature" faction of authoritarians. The Kuokoa party alienated these right wing environmentalists with the adoption of increasingly conservative oil friendly policies, placing them in the laps of the National Liberals.

The National Liberals were more sympathetic of their preservation of mother nature, if not agreeing in their calls for a dictatorship in order to efficiently organize the protection and conservation of the earth and to end global warming. They mostly let the eco-fascist faction hold their little rallies while keeping them far from the main levers of the party's power, often sabotaging their efforts in local elections. In short, they're tolerated just so they don't splinter off and form a third party that would be a spoiler and detriment to the National Liberals.
