LeinadB93: Port Royal (Hail, Britannia)

So I was inspired late last night for some unknown reason, to create this. It's based on my Hail, Britannia series, which I've already mentioned is subtly also in the Stargate-verse, though references to Stargate are very minor. This wikibox set takes place in 2244, and is the "future-version" of my Hail, Britannia–Stargate series that I said I might post in greater detail eventually.

Port Royal, officially the Imperial City of Port Royal, is the most populous city in the Commonwealth of Albionoria, a British constituent country on the west coast of North Cabotia on the colony world Nova Britannia. With a population of 8 million at the 2240 census, Port Royal is the largest city in the British territories on Nova Britannia, narrowly ahead of Fort Bedford in New Connaught, and one of the largest and densely populated cities on the planet. The Port Royal metropolitan area is one of the most populous urban agglomerations on Nova Britannia, with an estimated 20 million residents as of 2244.

Situated in a large natural harbour, Elizabeth Bay, at the confluence of the Layton and Philip rivers, Port Royal consists of seven boroughs – Aigburth, Kings, Middleton, New Wrexham, Quantick, Tsolin, and Winston Island – which originated as separate settlements prior to 2051. Due it being the location of the planetary stargate, the city and its metropolitan area constitute the premier gateway for trade, travel and immigration to Nova Britannia, and as many as 900 languages are spoken in Port Royal. The neighbourhood of Little Langara in Quantick is the location of the most visible of these linguistic groups, the Langarans, whilst Middleton and Aigburth boast small Aubenish-speaking populations.

Port Royal traces its origins to a military outpost and settlement, known as Fort Elizabeth – now a neighbourhood in Tsolin – founded by the British in 2011, the first human settlement on the planet. As the location of the stargate, and the de facto capital of the British Nova Britannia colony project, Port Royal saw rapid growth in the 2020s as settlers from across the Empire and Commonwealth emigrated off-world. In 2028 the city was formally established, then including only the boroughs of Tsolin and Winston Island. The remaining boroughs were incorporated into the city in 2051, with the establishment of the Commonwealth of Albionoria, and between 2051 and 2057 the city served as the capital of Albionoria.

In the 23rd century, Port Royal has emerged as an interstellar hub for creativity, sustainability, and cultural diversity, as well being a leading financial centre and home to one of the largest stock exchanges off-Earth, the Port Royal Stock Exchange. Many districts and landmarks of the city are well known, including the Albionorian Memorial Hall and Carter Square, whilst the University of Port Royal is considered one of the premier institutes of higher education within Tau’ri space. Politically, the city has historically been a bastion of support for the centrist/socialist Progressive Liberals, but since the 2220s, Port Royal has increasingly voted for the left-wing populist and social democratic People’s Reform Movement. The PRM currently control the Port Royal City Council, and the incumbent mayor – Francisco Crandall – is the first ethnic Langaran to be elected to the position.

imagine you have cancer

also Ted Bundy was the president a few years ago

That's almost the worst combinations of things I've ever heard.

Takashi Mizutani (水谷孝, Mizutani Takashi, born 14 February 1948) is a Japanese musician, poet, and briefly the Minister of Culture following the establishment of the Revolutionary People's Republic of Japan in 1968. Frontman of the experimental rock group Les Rallizes Dénudés, Mizutani played a key role in the uprising on the campus of the University of Kyoto on 1 May 1968. Aged only 20, he found himself catapaulted into a leadership position that earned him much respect from his comrades, but one that didn't fit his reserved personality. Following the declaration of the Revolutionary People's Republic, initially made up of a network of revolutionary student councils from across Japan, Mizutani was named Minister of Culture. He only held the position for around six weeks before he resigned the position in order to make way for the Japanese New Wave film director Masao Adachi, who came to fight for the RPRJ as revolution spread from the universities and city streets all across the country. Mizutani returned to his role as musician, gaining a cult following with Les Rallizes in spite of remaining a notoriously reclusive and enigmatic figure. For sometime, it was even rumored that he had been killed in the subsequent three-way Japanese Civil War, due to his habit of performing under disguises and pseudonyms. Since retiring from music in 2000, he has embarked into the world of literature, publishing his first compilation of avant-garde poetry in 2005. However, he has continued to shun the limelight, and his current place of residence is unknown.

(Sort of based off The Way the Wind Blows, but not really as there aren't enough details to know what's happening in Japan yet)

Adolph as Adolf:

Instead of a failed Austrian painter, it was a reasonably successful American rapper who became the most notorious tyrant of the 21st century: Adolph "Young Dolph" Thornton, of Tennessee.

After a chaotic 2010s and 2020s that began with the sex scandal involving President Romney in 2015, the GOP began looking at new avenues in order to gain votes, with the most successful being a strategic alliance with the Libertarian Party and more aggressively reaching out to young entrepreneurs. In 2024, the Republican Party issued its most libertarian platform yet, with policies that included legalization or decriminalization of drugs, a ban on welfare or housing benefits for working-age adults, embracing the sexual revolution, sweeping criminal justice reform, and zeroing out taxes on the self-employed along with conservative classics like gun rights, free market policies, and greater freedom for religious Christians. This platform was music to the ears of Memphis rapper Adolph Thornton, hospitalized after yet another shooting and desiring to abandon the thug life forever. Thornton's lyric "if he don't work he a fuckin' leech" wound up being spun into his campaign slogan "I Work for Workers, Not Leeches", and in 2025 Thornton won a House seat in a special election, marking the first time that a Republican had gained over 30% of the black vote in a Tennessee district. With a rainbow coalition of urban entrepreneurs, young adults, and leave-me-alone rural conservatives, Thornton was able to narrowly win the Republican nomination for Governor, and in time was able to work his way into the Republican nomination. In 2032, Thornton became the first openly libertarian president-elect, and together with running mate Mary Cheney he had opened "a new verse in the song of the American right." Thornton's first term, however, saw him become increasingly dogmatic. Republicans who did not pledge loyalty to Thornton and to what he called "hip hop libertarianism" (cringe) lost their jobs, and several even lost their lives to "random" gang violence. However, the economy boomed - Thornton's drug and prison reforms alone were credited with adding 3 percentage points per year to GDP growth, and Thornton won reelection in 2036 with 52% of the popular vote and over 300 electors. By 2037, Thornton and his libertarian cronies were firmly in control of the GOP and had renamed it the Republican-Liberty Party, but he faced term limits as well as a disappointing 2038 House and Senate election. In an attempt to retain control of his party and to establish the RLP as the party of the black community, he floated Mia Love to succeed him as president. After devastating losses in the 2038 midterms, Thornton ordered a crackdown on the "freedom-hating" press and opposition, and ensured that Love would trump what Thornton called "hate" as the 50th president of the US while Thornton continued directing the show as chancellor of the RLP.

From a world in which Portugal is a videogame power instead of Japan. This game is an adaptation of the real-life (and really awesome) Battle of Macau, which saw a motley band of African slaves and Catholic clergy defeat a massive force from the emergent Dutch Republic that besieged Portugal's base in southern China. The game, an early hack-and-slash type game, allows you to play as a male slave, a female slave, or a priest and kill a horde of Dutch invaders with edged weapons, cannon, or crude guns. The game was banned in the Netherlands as a result of the victory scene that slave players saw, which referred to the invaders as "vile Hollanders". However, it was the first game of the popular Battles series and eventually was rereleased for Dutch audiences with softer language.

ETGalaxy: Benthamian War
Here's my first attempt for an infobox which is based on my timeline Dreams of Liberty (it's in my signature if you want to read it). Basically, the Benthamian War is an alternate conflict that resembles the Napoleonic Wars, however, it takes place in a world where the USA lost the revolution and the British went down the path of radicalism with France. This isn't a very good infobox, but this is my first so that's to be expected.

The Lunarians, both human and humanoid, and the Earthlings had a rivalry as ancient as the foundation of the Lunar colonies. As Earth fell into several crises, Moon rose as the preeminent center of human society and culture, while historically poor regions on Earth, such as South America and Asia, took the mantle of dominance on the Blue Planet thanks to their economic potential and political control by unificationists as Europe, North America and Asia basked in violence.

The Latin American Union, one of the largest powers on Earth, turned to isolationism and protectionism following the introduction of the "White Cabinet" of the 2330s. This wasn't very well-liked by the Lunarian powers, whose trade unions and corporations held shares in the Andes Resource-Gathering Cooperative and the half-ruined Amazon. This disagreement between the expansionist Lunar powers and the conservative Latin American Union led to the beginning of the Crystal Wars.

The First Crystal War (2349-2352) began as a conflict over the unlawful attack of Yutuzhouan security corvettes on a Latin American satellite. In response, numerous citizens of Arequipa have dumped boxes of Yutuzhouan holophones into the Pacific Ocean. The war was primarily a Yutuzhouan-Latin American war, and ended with Yutuzhouan victory.

The Second Crystal War, on the other hand, began when Minister of Propaganda, Leandro Lemos, issued a decree of war against the "Lunarian tyrants" over a Gagarian attack on a Latin American cargo ship. The guerrilla militias, the cave systems containing hyperbombs and kinetic mines, and the sheer size of the Latin American soldiers terrified the Lunarian soldiers, but the Latin American soldiers were far too poorly equipped.

When the Latin American Army attacked a Venusian trade ship, the Venusians intervened on the Lunarians' side. Most notably, Lieutenant-General Alice Flynn, famous military figure and adventurer, brought her "friend" along for the ride. This friend was Colonel Gaz dess Rafosk, Chief of the Nokomis Nation and governor of Nokomis, a tough reptilian woman who personally led her entire Nation into battle. While there were lots of cases of the "Lizard Regiments" being highly barbaric and unscrupulous, such as during the Battle of Arequipa, this was marked as one of the first times reptilian Venusians fought side by side with human Venusians.

Notably, this was the Crystal War in which Gems fought. The Gem Empire, an ancient, decadent state and a long-time enemy of humans, knew they could not let the Lunarians - the strongest humans at the time - expand their influence. After all, the Gems have already suffered during the End of the Diamond Authority and the following Organic Administration. Under the pretext of "protecting Gems on Earth", the Gems intervened on the behalf of the Latin Americans, with popular commander Jasper Facet-4D2L Cut-3WX, more commonly known as Iaspis Magna, leading the Gem Intervention Forces. Nonetheless, despite this massive advantage on the Latin American side, Changeguo and Magnipol still won, even if their troops have been traumatized by the war...

Thanks to Venusian manpower and technology, the Lunarian Defense Coalition won the Second Crystal War. During the Treaty of Rio de Janeiro, Gagaria took West Guyana under its control, adding it to its large Protectorate of West Indies, infuriating the people of Berbicia who could trace their descent to the local Guyanans and Surinamese. The Latin American Union, suffering from the reparations and trade agreements imposed on it, needed quick reform, and newly elected President, Juan Esteban Yarleque, an ambitious politician of Quechua descent, began a wave of administrative and military reforms...

The Berbician presidential election of 2383 was held on 18 May 2383. A momentous occasion for the Republic of Berbicia, an ex-colony founded by ambitious Guyanese and Surinamese populists and scientists, it ended the era of Berbicia's control by the National Republican Party of Berbicia, which has went for an unbroken record of 75 years. Historically dominant in Berbician politics, the National Republicans began as a socially conservative, economically left political party that gradually shifted into a big-tent party.

However, with the beginning of the 2370s, everything began to change. The gradual "capitalization" of certain collective factories and the National Republicans shifting to the right alienated a large group of its Western voters, who formed the socialist, socially conservative Frontier League. The urbanization and the liberalization of the country led to the formation of numerous "liberal" parties such as Pasukan Kemajuan, Democratic Alternative and Liberal Party of Berbicia, but none of them truly could challenge the National Republicans. Finally, in 2377, an industrialist party, the Union for Patriotism and Industry, was founded in Witteslang.

The 2383 elections saw Joshua Barlay, a prominent labor leader and Governor of New Mahdia, step in as the candidate for UPI. Joshua Barlay was born in a family of second-generation immigrants from Sierra Leone in rural New Jateng and has historically worked in a steel mill while studying law. His opponent, Navin Harish, the governor of New Brunswijk, businessman and manager of the New Bell Telephone and Hologram Operating Company, a charming man who spoke fifty-cent words in support of the ruling National Republican Party and the old President Tirto Eko, was struck down by Joshua Barlay, who accused him of corruption and pointed out the suffering state of infrastructure in many regions of Berbicia, as well as the "cowardice" of the National Republicans when the Gagarians took West Guyana in the Second Crystal War and economically subjugated the rest of the Guianas. Meanwhile, the Frontier League's leader, Edwin Sen A Ting of Chung, ran his own presidential campaign appealing to conservatives and socialists in the western regions, taking away a large portion of the popular vote that could have went to the National Republicans.

InfernoMole: Notan Dordzhiev & Liberian presidential election, 1995
DORDZHIEV.png

Notan Dordzhiev (born Notan-Bayr Dordzhiev, November 19, 1876 – January 29, 1943) was a Russian entrepreneur, art dealer and archaeologist of Kalmyk descent who spearheaded many archaeological expeditions. Born in Velikoknyazheskaya, a cossack village in the depths of the Don Host, Dordzhiev moved to Astrakhan, where he set up a china shop. A man of a strong physical constitution and a devout Buddhist, Dordzhiev frequently traveled to the Far East, assisting adventurers in Altai and Buryatia. Many adventurers who met him stated that Notan was "a hot-tempered man" and "someone who'd dive into the crater of a volcano to get what he wants". When he returned to Astrakhan, Dordzhiev would regularly present and auction examples of Oriental art and mysterious artifacts in his shop, which he would eventually convert into an art gallery.

In 1907, Dordzhiev, having amassed incredible wealth, led an expedition to Bukhara and the depths of Afghanistan, which, as he suspected, might have had artifacts of an ancient India-based civilization. Although Dordzhiev only slightly miscalculated the location of the artifacts, he managed to discover what he would eventually call "the Kunduz Map". Identifying it as a map of temples of an ancient empire that ruled the world before the existence of Ancient Greece, Dordzhiev continued his expedition in East Africa, Australia and, eventually, the Atlantic Ocean. Although the second expedition's primary goal was not reached and Dordzhiev suffered an encounter with a floating squid-like abomination, the discoveries made by Dordzhiev's team amazed the scientific consensus and earned Dordzhiev millions and millions of rubles. As such, Dordzhiev was the richest Kalmyk in the world and one of the richest men in Russia.

Returning to Russia in 1914 as a national hero, Dordzhiev was very ill, and remained in Russia for two years before deciding to return to his career as an art vendor. In 1917, Dordzhiev married Alma Bembinova, the daughter of a Kalmyk nobleman, and opened an antiquarian shop, which he named "Dordzhiev House of Curiosities". In March 1919, Dordzhiev traveled to Harbin to recover the family sword of an old childhood friend, lieutenant Roman Gavrilovich Vershinin, who was allegedly murdered by Japanese bandits in Port Arthur. Dordzhiev's investigation was instrumental in capturing and eliminating masked bandit, fanatical anarchist and cult leader, the "Black Wolf of Harbin", who was revealed to be Suguro Yukichi, a Japanese soldier who mysteriously disappeared in 1904. In the Roaring Twenties, Dordzhiev would tour in Europe and America, presenting his antiquities and art collections before hundreds of spectators. In 1939, with interest in space growing thanks to the discoveries of Tsiolkovsky, Dordzhiev founded "White Star Aerospace", the very first private spacefaring company, with the assistance of Patrick Rehberg, a German expat and grandson of famous "mad scientist" Sigismund Rehberg. Although initially "White Star" was primarily based around studying and building prototype rockets, and not around colonization of planets like it would become in the 2000s, Dordzhiev was hailed as a "patron of human progress". A highly successful man, Dordzhiev moved to Cuba, though he would, much unfortunately, end up being assassinated by an unidentified mad cultist. Due to the degree of burns that were found on Dordzhiev's spine and their abnormal nature, some suspect that Notan was killed by an abomination; the cause of Dordzhiev's death remains hotly debated.

"White Star" would end up in the hands of Rehberg for about 13 years, before being taken over by the Dordzhiev estate after Patrick's death. While Kamilla Dordzhieva (1918–1991), and, subsequently, her daughter Helen (b. 1959), were the chairwomen that made "White Star" powerful, Kamilla and her brothers were deeply estranged from each other for the rest of their lives; while Sanal (1927–1969) was a military man and didn't really want to bother himself with the intricate legacy of his father, Yagur (1921–1990) and Chon (1921–1974), notable Astrakhan politician and American businessman respectively, attempted to compete with Kamilla for their father's inheritance. They failed, to say the least.

liberia.png

The Liberian presidential election, 1995 was the 52nd presidential election in Liberia's history since the nation's independence; it was held on 12 February and 3 May of 1995. The election of 1995 is notable for having ended the political influence of the True Whig Party, as the last president to be part of the True Whig Party, Tobias W. Walker, failed to even enter the second round.

The primary issues of 1995 were that of good governance, continued space expansion of humanity (especially so after the estabilishment of diplomatic relations with Mercurians in 1993) and, by proxy, Liberia's technological stagnation, and the recent unification with Sierra Leone, whose people called for respect of religious differences, a flag that doesn't represent Liberia's dark past, and even federalism, which bothered the True Whigs and their more liberal counterparts, the Reform Whigs, who split off from the True Whigs in 1976 over handling of equal rights for all Liberians. The Reform Whigs promised that they would "make Liberia a space power", "give Liberia a future to be proud of", and their nominee fit that rhetoric. Mona Macauley was a young cosmoaviator and senator from Buchanan, Liberia, while her running mate, Cyper Ceesay, was a Mandinka politician and former entrepreneur.

The Reform Whigs' effort was primarily opposed by the People's Republicans, a socially conservative, federalist party whose nominee was Perseus Blyden Ballah, Mauretanian War veteran and senator from Sinoe. Perseus B. Ballah hailed from a bloodline of Liberian war heroes, as his father, Alfred Ballah, participated in the Third Moroccan Crisis. Alongside his running mate Alois Garver, a Monrovian politician of mixed Austrian-Liberian descent, Ballah proclaimed his distaste for "the Whigs' overt focus on space" and promised the Liberians "that Liberia would be sufficient, industrialized and equal". There was much mudslinging to be had.

Nonetheless, Mona Macauley won the election with 51.7% of the popular vote, being dominant in the north of the country. However, Perseus B. Ballah controlled most of the "Old Liberian" counties in the south. This "great dichotomy" in Liberian elections would continue for years to come.

The year 1622 has arrived. A horde of fuckin' vile Hollanders are rushing from the Low Countries. Crime rate skyrocketed! Macau is ruined! Therefore, the Macau government called Leo Africanus' descendant "Joao" for the massacre of the Hollanders. Joao is a killer machine! Wipe out all two million of the orange republicans! However, in metropolitan Holland, there was a secret project in progress! A project to transform the deceased Guilherme van Oranje into an ultimate weapon!

But seriously, I would play this game.

What were other notable games in the Battles series?
