AHC: Have Nintendo win the console wars

The Sony Playstation started life as a SNES add-on. While the falling out between the two companies was complicated and very difficult to avoid, that's the beginning of the end for Nintendo's dominance, so - eliminate the project entirely. Boost either Sega or Atari so that Nintendo has a strong competitor, so that when Microsoft/Sony/some other competitor muscles into the market, there isn't an overwhelming market share to tap into. It'd really help if Nintendo has the foresight to make their sixth generation console usable as a DVD player, because that was a huge boost for the PS2 and part of why it dominated so heavily.

Nintendo also chose not to compete on hardware over the long term, so boosting PC gaming would help if they made a similar choice - the really technically demanding games could focus on PC release, and it's a niche Microsoft could focus on to keep them out of consoles and not directly competing.

How can I boost Sega so that Nintendo has a strong competitor?
