2018 Presidential Election

I don't think trying to push through an unpopular Cabinet nominee is on par with Bartlet thinking he can hide a degenerative neurological disease while being in a very public and stressful job or Walken trying to out-Andrew Jackson Andrew Jackson by refusing to uphold a Supreme Court decision for two years because he didn't want to have gay service members be open about their sexuality.

Did you quote the wrong post? Because your reply is a total non sequitur to what you quoted.
Probably, I have been shoveling snow and roof raking for the better part of today. So I am a little tired.

30 inches in the Month of February so far...

Seaborn to push forward Bartlet nomination to full Senate

View attachment 442119

Washington D.C.- In a late-night press conference, President Seaborn announced that he had called Senate Majority Leader Cody Riley (R-AL) to inform him that he would be excercising his right to push Dr. Abigail Bartlet's nomination as Secretary of Health & Human Services to the full Senate. Flanked by Dr. Bartlet, Sen. Nicole Kershaw and several members of the White House Senior Staff, President Seaborn reiterated his "absolute support" for Dr. Bartlet, believing that she would ultimately prevail before the full Senate.

Senate Riley confirmed via tweet that he would indeed place Dr. Bartlet's nomination on the Senate Schedule, likely for Friday afternoon. Senator Riley also sent a second tweet that was much more telling: "Full warning Mr. President, it's your funeral"

Sam was always the idealist amongst Bartlet's staff, and I'd wager his principled stance by what I assume still is a popular ex-First Lady amongst the American people, earns him plaudits. Of course, does this idealism make him the next JFK/Bartlet or Newman/Santos? Could go either way

To be fair, Bartlet was president about 20 years ago, so that technically is decades. I think the main difference here is that large parts of the president's own party are telling him "no" quite loudly and openly.

Sam is either deluded or knows something we don't. Interested to see how this plays out.

Secret Service not laughing at Senate Majority Leader's tweet

Washington, D.C.
With the stakes heightened over the confirmation vote of former First Lady Abigail Bartlet to the position of Secretary of Health and Human Services, Senate Majority Leader Cody Riley (R-AL)'s Twitter parting shot at President Sam Seaborn for continuing to push Dr. Bartlet's nomination has landed him in hot water with the United States Secret Service. After reaffirming a full Senate vote for Dr. Bartlet after both relevant Senate committees voted down her nomination, Senator Riley tweeted "Full warning Mr. President, it's your funeral". While the tweet clearly was meant as a warning to the president over what most observers say are Bartlet's poor chances in the Senate, Secret Service Director James Burke said that his agency took the tweet's language seriously.

"While we don't think Senator Riley seriously intends to harm the president, the use of a figure of speech hinting at the president's death by another elected official is very concerning to us," Burke said. "Our agents discussed the matter with Senator Riley. He understood our concern and agreed that it was a matter of poor phrasing." Burke said that the agency did not open an investigation, and that he discussed the matter with President Seaborn. White House Press Secretary Cassie Tatum said that the president considered the matter "overblown" and stated that Seaborn and Riley had a friendly relationship from their service in the Senate together, but that the president did not intervene after consultation with Director Burke and Attorney General George Montgomery. Riley has since deleted the tweet, although pictures of it continue to circulate online.

More West Wing infighting as Senate vote looms

Washington D.C.- With tomorrow's Senate vote looming, the are reports of more infighting within the West Wing. With John Edwards apparently on his way out, Press Secretary Cassie Tatum seems to have taken up the mantel of the anti-Bartlet faction within the White House. According to numerous sources, Tatum has spend the past several hours urging the President to contact the Senate Majority Leader and pull tomorrow's vote on Dr. Abigail Bartlet's nomination for the next United States Secretary of Health & Human Services. During a late night meeting with Senior Staff, it has been reported that a quote "cat fight" erupted between Cassie Tatum and Claudia Jean "CJ" Cregg. While no actual blows were thrown, a "high-level source" has told ACN that both ladies had to be restrained by White House Chief of Staff Will Bailey & Communications Director Mark Stearns. Though it is extremely unlikely anything would have actually happened, this event does raise further concerns about the direction of the Seaborn Administration.

During all of this, ACN has been able to confirm from numerous White House Sources that Deputy Communications Director John Edwards has indeed submitted a letter of resignation to the President. However, it is unclear if the President himself has even seen it, as we now understand that John Edwards left the letter in the care of the White House Chief of Staff Will Bailey after being told by CJ Cregg that the President, "did not want to talk to him anymore". It's still unclear as to the specifics, as all of the alleged involved parties have refused to comment, but as of right now, it seems that the West Wing has devolved into utter chaos.

Seriously, I don't understand how CJ is even in the White House. even if she brokered the deal with Hunter, the entire Hollis thing had to have damaged her credibility significantly, and if this Abby Bartlet somehow fails to pass, this also has to hurt her somehow.

......
I think Mrs Bartlet is toast but she always had the most keen point to make.

Sam is and always will an ideologue as it were he is too forthright in his beliefs. He is too nice but will grow in his position.
Will is also not as good political operator as he suffers similar to sam but not as great.

No there is one person who can talk down both sides with cold hearted political logic here.

To quote Mrs Bartlet
Where is Josh?

Yeah where is Josh? I think Sam Seaborn made a wrong call when it came to dropping Josh in favor of C.J. He and Sam have a history, going back likely before the episode “in the Shadow of Two gunmen”, in which Sam is recalling how Josh came to New York to recruit Sam to join Jed Bartlet’s campaign. I can see how Josh could be to Sam, what Leo McGarry was to Jed. C.J.? Her political skills would not be as good as Josh’s. I can imagine Josh had his own ideas about the Franklin Hollis choice! Not second guessing here, but if Abby Bartlet goes down! Then I think there needs to be a serious “reset” as far as White House staffing goes and C.J could do the decent thing and “fall on her sword”, then Josh must come back in a Senior advisor capacity, or perhaps as Counselor to the President. Will Bailey is probably good at “keeping the trains running”, but it’s easy to see that his proximity in terms of relationships goes is not strong, especially with Sam. So C.J. has to go! I can understand Sam out of an idealistic sense of loyalty won’t cut her free, So C.J. has to show her own sense of loyalty and remember she owes Sam bigly, (had to slip that word in :) ), has she forgotten how Sam saved her ass during the assassination attempt on Jed Bartlet? Also it might be a good idea to keep Toby Ziegler in the loop, but in an outside capacity. I think a pardon and the passage of time over the space shuttle leak has to be re-evaluates! A few late night phone calls might not go awry.

Actually Sam needs to run as far away from Josh and CJ as possible. And Toby too. They were all great but products of their time. Bartlet left office nearly twenty years ago and times have moved on. People voted for Sam not Bartlet 2.0. He needs to recruit young, up and coming fresh blood not just try and recreate his youth.

Will's okay both because while being "One of them" he wasn't as close to Bartlet or the Bartlet project and he's been in Congress so he knows how the land lies. But everyone else needs to be kept far away from the West Wing. Sam needs to be his own man.

I would argue that there already was a Bartlet 2.0 and it was Santos. Seriously, Santos was basically a third Bartlet term when you look at all the people who were with him in the beginning. Josh, Sam, McNally, Babish, Ainsley almost CJ. Also it was the Bartlet third term (Santos) who lost in 2010. Granted after 12 years of Democratic power, I think the voters were gonna pick a Republican regardless of how well Santos was. My advice to Sam would be "Let the past die."

Sudden attack on a Representative by another Representative in Japanese Diet.

Tokyo At a session of the Japanese House of Representative yesterday, when two politicians from the from the far right political party Nippon Ishin, The Japan Innovation Party, and three politicans from the Japanese Communist Party got into a very nasty fist fight regarding the construction of three new helicopter destroyers that will be converted to aircraft carriers to launch F35 jump jets.

Mr. Ooge verbally attacked Mrs. Akiyama as being a "Communist Lesbian." Akiyama then rebutted that Mr. Ooge acts a lot like his brother, a known yakuza, trying to intimidate her. Ooge and Representative Touya Kusano (Innovation Kinki PR Block) began chanting that Akiyama was "a commie lesbian appeaser" in a sing song voice. The Speaker of the House, Yusuke Satomi, warned Ooge and Kusano such behavior would not be tolerated.

Japanese Communist Party Leader Aki Kawabe, is pleased that Representative Haruna Akiyama is in good condition. Kawabe has not said if Akiyama will press charges.

President remains ahead of Senate vote

Washington D.C.- "The President remains is high spirits and remains confident in the outcome of today's vote" according to White House Communications Director Mark Sterns who briefed the White House Press Corps this morning. It is unclear why it was Stearns and not Cassie Tatum that briefed the Press Corps, but sources are telling ACN that she has yet to arrive at the White House this morning, causing speculation that she may too have resigned. Though we should stress at this time that there are no other indications that that is the case.

Debate on the Abigail Bartlet confirmation is scheduled to begin at 1pm.
