What was Victoria Donda notable for ITTL prior to being President owing to how Argentina ITTL is a thriving democracy without any coups?

For obvious reasons, it's hard to get definitive statements on the political leanings of the surviving members of the Aisin Goro clan OTL so I've kind of picked the notional heads of the family OTL and made up their politics to fit the storyline. Here's the succession over the course of the TL:
  • Guangxu Emperor [OTL]: February 1875-November 1948
  • Xuantong Emperor [OTL Puyi]: November 1948-October 1967
  • Pingjing Emperor [OTL Jin Youzhi]: October 1967-April 2015
  • Zhenshi Emperor [OTL Jin Yuzhang]: April 2015-present
The imperial family as a whole remain important in Chinese culture and politics, taking up a variety of political roles if they want and enjoying careers as socialites/artists etc if they'd prefer. And, yes, the Emperor still has multiple consorts but, as you can see, that hasn't proved particularly important for the storyline.


The Emperor remains but his role is entirely symbolic, even though he retains a lot of soft power. In many senses his role is a bit akin to that of the OTL Pope. Some of the rest of the imperial family are involved in politics, as will appear later in the TL.

Out of curiosity (popped up in my re-read): what was the cause for Pujie (Puyi’s little brother) not succeeding as Emperor in 1967? I chalked it up to the Aisin-Goro having odd/arbitrary succession rules but was curious if something more specific had occurred

    She was a successful corporate lawyer.

    Just the slightly odd succession rules. As it has developed, the (male) members of the imperial family hold an informal election from amongst the (male) members of the next generation to choose a successor.

    Thanks very much. I have just over a week's more updates planned to tie up a few elections in 2020-22 and then a couple more to give updated GDPs, largest companies, and leaders of countries not covered in depth

    Coorg and Kochi Provinces have had provincial Communist governments, as have certain districts within Madras and Bombay. Communist movements are also found in some of the princely states, although to date none have actually taken control of a government.

    There's a commitment to a referendum on a republic in their manifesto and the party has been synonymous with republicanism for some time. However, its rise to popularity has come with the leadership toning down constitutional issues and instead emphasising more mainstream left of centre to left wing policies such as housing, the social safety net and so forth. Voting Communist can no longer be taken as synonymous with wanting to leave the Empire.

    So does this mean that absent a Communist Great Power like the USSR Communism has been sort of ideologically generalized to mean general left wing ideas, much like Socialism iotl?

    Hi everyone. Slightly odd announcement but a few days ago my long-serving laptop died (#neverforget) and it seems not all of my files survived the destruction. One of the ones that didn't make it was the draft updates I had for the rest of this TL. Given that I only had about half a dozen left and the MALT infobox kind of worked better thematically, I'm going to declare this TL over now and I'm going to turn my attention to my next project. I appreciate this is a slightly odd way to end a TL but I think this was God's way of telling me to finish this and move on. Anyway, if you have any questions please don't hesitate to stick them in this thread and I'll answer them as best i can
