-Thanks for the commentA few things you might want to look into. I believe that the Channel Islands would have been occupied by the Germans in a short period of time, as IOTL the British evacuated their forces from there, seeing them as a lost cause. You also have all of France as being occupied, and that area in the north being administratively attached to Belgium quicker than what happened IOTL. Suppose it depends on what date the map is. I find it odd there wouldn't be a Vichy sort of thing in this world, especially as this Union would have played into the mindset of Hitler (who always assumed the British would jump on French colonies and that the Americans would do it to Canada eventually) and German propaganda, allowing them to say the government fled the country with as much cash as they could carry, using taking that as payment from English Plutocrats, Jewish bankers, etc etc standard Nazi propoganda. Also some minor things like pink not being changed in some Western Africa, and the Vichy grey in South China Sea islands not being changed. For this world do you see the Unoin as continuing? I am wondering how they would handle the differing law codes. Suppose it is fortunate for some there would be martial law in most of the colonies, so they had a few years to decide how to make it all work. Wait, just realized something. Italy has annexed Monaco and Nice, while Corsica is a light grey color. Is that we're the Vichy analogue was kept? Germany is going to have a rough time, if they can't have the French government do all the tax collecting, public order, mass arrests, mass conscription for labor, massive occupation fees, etc. Planning on a sequel? Wondering if you could get it to where Stalin is right, with both sides bleeding out.
In this Cold War colonialism is still a thing, even in socialist France, and colonies are milked for all they're worth. So, if a country is independent and loyal to the superpower, it has a lot of autonomy. This seems to be the case surprisingly often x) Well, what kind of damage is this Cold War doing on the rest of the world? How is life in the smaller states that orbit, but are on the fringes of, the major powers? Say, Uganda and Guatemala? Are they granted a fair degree of autonomy so long as they toe the line or are they milked for all they're worth?
In general, Communism is more oppressive than Varangism, because people in communist countries have less property rights, in some cases they don't even have property at all. However, Varangist society is very hierarchical and largely anti-modern and anti-Enlightenment, with implementation of clerical racism in some extreme cases. How oppressive is Communism? Am I right in assuming that Varangism is more, or at least no less oppressive than Communism? Also, do Communist (or Varangist?) nations differ in how oppressive/authoritarian they are?
Of course. In Communist world, USSA was super oppressive at first, because communism strongly opposed American individualism and economic freedom. Hundreds of thousands of capitalists were robbed by the government and killed. However, in time Communism got much better, both in USSA and most European/Latin states. There are some very extreme communist regimes in 1960-s world, such as anti-catholic and dictatorial Mexico, where almost all of country's property de facto belongs to a dictatorial "Father of all the Mexicans" and East African Communist Federation, there government and fanatics have killed all white people. Also, do Communist (or Varangist?) nations differ in how oppressive/authoritarian they are?

Well answered!
So in this case, Varangism is indeed more oppressive in my opinion - little property rights is not as oppressive really as anti-modern and hierarchical and sometimes racist society.
True, but it's not like a piece of paper with "national constitution" written over it has the immediate magical power to stop military coups.I don't think you're fully grasping the potential implications of a government that can basically do anything it wants to your house and your wealth and... well, to your physical existence by simply depriving you of all you have.
True, but it's not like a piece of paper with "national constitution" written over it has the immediate magical power to stop military coups.
And, considering the massive size and equipment advantage of the US army right now, it's kind of a miracle that nobody has yet marched on Washington and seized power. Yet.
Except that "Constitution fetishism" does not immediately mean that the citizen (or country) abides by it, nor does it mean that he knows its actual contents. I've seen a lot of illiberal rhethoric coming from the mouths of people who at times claim they "defend the Constitution". Dissatisfaction with government can sometimes lead to some group deciding to seize power and serve the interests of a demagogue, with the justification sometimes being "restoring order".The American fetishism of the Constitution also work against coups.
This is so damn cool. What is life like in the various components of Nouvelle France? Do they operate mostly as independent colonial nations or do they have a great deal of cooperation and political integration (i.e. if France suddenly disappeared, would they be one country or five?) How short a leash does France keep them on? Are they very progressive? What is life like within them for both the colonists and the colonized? The Canada posts [specifically the French Canada ones] reminded me of this one I did some while ago.
Thought I might re-post it.

While making the above map, I tried to avoid putting any real thought about what the Kingdom of Canada's neighbors are like, and I succeeded. hastily written backstory gooo!
In this world the French win the seven years war, but the war itself proves to be much more of a financial burden, and needless to say the royal family goes tax crazy, french people get mad, french people rise up. Luckily for the Bourbons, they had a nice, peaceful, and (mostly) loyal set of colonies one ocean away and manage to successfully flee there, where they set up shop in Quebec City and declare the colonies the Kingdom of Canada. after that they move west, have some border disputes, patch up their relationship with France, and the rest is history.
Dark colored lands are territories with a large enough population to be allowed to form a local government, but not enough to be a full province.
pale colored lands are territories which lack a large enough population to be allowed a local government.

2014
The whole world was shocked when a day after the Russian Federation's annexation of Crimea on March 20th, all of Russia's mainland territory was replaced by uninhabited wilderness, with no humans or buildings in sight, with a noticeable high amount of unpollution. Moscow, Saratov, Volgograd, and Vladivostok were all gone.
The non-Mainland territories were in shock and mourning, as their nation had to know been reduced to nothing more than islands and small territories. The population had been reduced to a few million, with the new capital being placed in Kallingrad. Plans for recolonization are made immediately, taking as much land as possible, though other nations are eyeing the virgin land.
2015
The world has collectively been watching the Russian Crisis play out for quite some time, with some nations deciding to 'help' Russia by occupying its territory, while others took the opportunity they had lost.
Unsurprisingly, Ukraine invaded and took back Crimea, it was a bloody war, but it was worth it in the end. The Ukrainians were ruthless in the purges and deportations that soon followed, as many Russian military leaders, generals, and even citizens were accused of illegal secession, treason, and anti-Ukrainian discrimination. Many were soon deported back to the rump Russian state, not before being made unwelcome by the now powerful Ukraine.
Finland, Norway, the Baltics, and Belarus were all in the taking Russian territory trend that many nations were taking part in. Finland restored its pre-Winter War borders without much challenge, Norway took northern Murmansk, Belarus in taking its time, and the Baltics wanted that Pskov Oblast.
China was taken a good chunk of south-eastern Siberia, with them settling in where Vladivostok used to be.
The rump Russia has been taking as much land as possible, recolonization efforts are slow, but they are just trying to spread out before foreign nations take all the land. Small military bases are set up all over the place in order to show some sign of power.
2016
The Russians are still trying their best to take back their land, with the population being stretched in order to reclaim their home.
China continues to take territory in Siberia, with Mongolia temporarily joining into the game with them simply adding a border to Lake Bailkai. Meanwhile, in what Russia called an illegal secession, the population of the Kuril Islands and Salkim voted in favor to join the State of Japan, mostly because they were giving them lots of supplies and support, more than the rump government.
Georgia and Ukraine had since touched borders, and the Finnish have finalized their borders, with small population settlers begin to repopulate the territory taken. Kazhakstan joined in the game a year late, but we're doing alot of expansion, with them taking kilometers of territory by the end of the month.
But probably the biggest surprise to the Take-Russian-Territory game was the United States, who landed in and started to expand into Chukotka Autonomous Okrug. This pissed off Russia, but they couldn't do anything about it.
Meanwhile, nations that were previously allied to Russia, such as Syria, Serbia, and Iran begin to experience the effects of the 'Russian Event' as it came to be known, most notably the number of losses to Assad's army due to the lack of Russian help. The only still loyal nation being Belarus.
2017
A small Islamic terrorist group, known as the United Checyan States, started to settle in where Grozny used to be, founding a small number of bases and settlements. They declare Cehcyana to be theirs, and that all infidel invaders would be kicked out, with them blowing up a Ukranian government building on September 28th, in order to prove that. They wouldn't last a year.
Nothing really changes in the taking Russian Territory, though China advances quite quickly, with them taking all of Primorsky Krai and Khabarovsk Krai.
Meanwhile outside, anti-Assad forces continue to make gains, with the exception of ISIS, Russia's reactionary and anti-western influence on nations such as Iran and Serbia began to lessen and lessen over time, with Iran, in particular, have seen as a small but noticeable rise in liberal-led demonstrations. The former CSTO slowly begin to fall under the influence of either America or China.
Most notable of the lack of Russian influence was on Korea, with the Kims realizing that if they didn't go cool down, they would eventually piss off and enter in a war with either China or America. Basically, the recent peace talks in OTL happens early.
2018
In June 16th, 2018, over four years after the Russian Event, the rump Russia, and the countries that took part in the 'Take-Former-Russia' game attended a meeting in Berlin, in order to sort out the borders. They agreed to give all unclaimed territory back to Russia, while Kallingrad would be under temporarily Polish control while the members attended agreed to help rebuild Moscow. America, Norway, Georgia, Belarus, China, and Kazakhstan eventually agree to give back all of their territories to Russia after a number of years. With Japan, Finland, and Kazhakstan only agreeing on giving back some or most, and Ukraine refusing at all.
Meanwhile, most of Russia's former allies begin to align themselves more to China or America. Kurdistan gains its independence from Iraq and Syria, Iran and others have only seen a rise of liberalism in a now rebellious youth, and Syria saw the Assads flee to Saudi Arabia, while a democratic government took power in Damascus.
NATO was also disbanded on April 8th, with the European Union expanding to Ukraine and the most of the Balkans. Liberalism and the Left are basically dominating the previously divided Europe. Korea's peace talks have also evolved into an agreement between the two nations, with the nations agreeing to disarm and gradually drop the DMZ by 2029.
Russia has gone through probably the worst event in its history. Over 100 million of its people had disappeared, and many cities were no more. They were now just another group in its own homeland, with Chinese, Ukrainians, Americans, and Scandinavians being notable examples. They are currently trying to rebuild their major cities, and are trying to upgrade its government provisional status. While Russia's demographics are being changed forever, and their culture and people have taken a hit. Many Russians walk on with hope, knowing that, even if it takes 100 years, they will prevail.

Dang blast it, once again the Danes steal Norway's more appealing color. By the way, why did the still semi-nomadic Mongols not take a single square inch of land? I feel the international community would support them, at least to snag the old Tuvan areas and those Mongol oblasts and republics within the Russian federation. Making them fully surrounded by China would just be poor planning. I also feel you should show Abdkazia, Nagarno-Karabkh (whatever the Armenian area is called), and South Ossetia. While some maps of this sort get away with it by virtue of not showing any territorial claims or disputes, these areas are directly related to this. If Crimea is shown, then why not area lost to Georgia or an area that has never been a part of an indeptent Azerbaijan, outside perhaps a couple months. Heck, I think the violence was breaking out at least a year before the USSR collapsed. The European Union will also be wanting to move into Russia to try exploiting the gas fields as soon as possible. This is less about some landrush, war for oil sort of trope and more so that Europeans don't freeze in their own bedrooms.2014 Russian Mainland Replaced by Wilderness
