Finished my steampunk Fallout map!

Ah Steampunk. Sometimes utopian, other times dystopian, but almost to a world it is powered by abundant, seemingly inexhaustible reserves of coal. Well, in the case of this world it is no longer abundant as in the spring of 2052 centuries of ruthless exploitation of it by the nations of the world finally caught up with them as global reserves entered terminal decline, and in their wake brought about a series of resource wars that have for the last quarter century torn the world apart.

The technology exists to save the Earth of course. In response to the global crisis the Imperial Federation of Great Britain finally cracked the secret to exploiting oil as a fuel source when it developed the internal combustion engine in 2066. However the increasingly authoritarian empire and it’s shadow government the Enclave tried to hoard the technology for themselves and as a response a desperate Russia invaded the province of Alaska to secure the coal that was to be had in that arctic land. Eleven years of brutal war followed, and now in October of 2077 with the Tsar’s kingdom on the verge of collapse the monarch is days away from ordering Russia’s entire stockpile of poison gas and newfangled atomic weapons unleashed onto the world. “If Russia can’t win the Great Game no one can,” he claims, but all he is proving is war never changes, no matter what punk you live in…..

Edit: Had to add Mexico's blurb.

I presume the aliens here would be WOTW Martians, Barsoomians, and Selenites rather than little green men.

Monstergirls? What's that? Also how persecuted are the Albian races and the Skiatic races

1 it's more or less a codeword for "they look very human" or "they are supposed to look like the opposite of a horror movie"

2 that depends on the country you're speaking about.
in Arabia, Albian Races belong to the normal (green) 'caste', while Skistock are amongst Dybbukian races in the red 'caste' (notice the ' ' , as Arabia's caste differences are less severe than in other countries)

This took two damn nights.
To keep it consistent you should probably keep showing the Caucaus. Also, what is the story behind this? Seems like, no matter the situation, they would have went to war with a nuclear power. The Europeans, Chinese, Americans, and Japanese wouldn't want to lose land, allies, or buffer zones.

This is a pretty cool idea. What year is this supposed to depict?

It takes place during the 1600s/1700s

Is Japan anything like communist?

Also, is this Xuanze Empire located in Southeast Asia? Where are the "Lords of Himyar" and where is Mons Calpe?

Japan is not communist, rather it is a backwater state incapable of keeping up with the mainland Asians.
Yes, the Xuanze Empire is the Chinese state in Guangdong. The Lords of Himyar once ruled over Yemen before being subjugated by the Xuanze and Mons Calpe is Roman Gibraltar.

Hello guys, is there anyone here that always makes borders from scratch? (Like creating a new planet or something) How do you make them more aesthetic or realistic, instead of just looking like someone just used a pencil tool in paint and just randomly drew some lines.

Its from my dystopian scifi setting. Since 2030s after devastating oil crisis USA and Europe loses their positions, while in Russia political instability turns into new collapse. Territories from Ural to Chukotka were reformed under Chinese protectorate (Except Vladivostok, it became free city under Japanese defense). So, Second Republic was no more than European puppet, Third Republic failed in conflict with Visegrad. And then, Fourth Republic was like OTL Israel, maybe a little bit more radical - like "we'll take what ours, no matter what and after that just don't bother us".

I updated my first WorldA TL after a bit more thoughts and reading. ASB warning as it involves personality changes.

The history changed in this timeline as Napoleon Bonaparte was somewhat saner and realized that he couldn't make enemies out of the whole Europe. This led to a different outcome to the Treaty of Amiens, France didn't mess up Switzerland, Britain evacuated Malta and so on. However, a sort of cold war status was still maintained between Napoleon and the British. In a move to isolate Britain, Napoleon promised Austria and Russia a free hand in the Middle East. Unexpectedly, the Ottoman Empire got crushed by their combined might but managed to survive. After the war, the world started to be divided into 3 powerful blocks, with Austria leading the 4th non-aligned movement. As Russia became increasingly expansionist, Britain and her allies shifted their attention to the bear, being less hostile to France. The major wars in TTL after the Napoleonic Wars include: War against the Turks (1804), Persian Gulf War (1827), Opium War (1841), Indian Mutiny (1853), American Civil War (1863), Sino-Korean War (1885), Far East War (1898), Karelian War (1906).

Napoleon's Age of Empires - Copy - Copy.png

1. The Dominion of Canada became the juggernaut of North America after the Karelian War as it got lots of raw resources from former Russian Alyeska.

2. The United States is still an industrial powerhouse, though much less powerful than their original counterpart. They are allying with Russia due to the latter's support during the Civil War. Kinda hate the British for helping the South.

3. The Confederacy got independence thanks to British intervention (Britain had less cotton supply from India and didn't have access to Egypt in TTL). Slavery is fading but the country is still very racist.

4. French Louisiana is one of the largest food and oil exporters in the world. The region is still underpopulated but they are attracting a lot of immigrants.

5. The Viceroyalty of New Spain is till Spanish most prized colony. Their loyalty during the Latin American wars of independence paid off as the Crown gave them a lot of autonomy. They are still pissed at the Californian separatists.

6. Scared that Spain may invade so they have been getting close to Canada just in case.

7. California's only colony. The government is still pondering whether to turn the islands into an integral part of the country or not.

8. Spain gave up on Yucatan after the local population proved to be too troublesome. Yep, not worth the efforts at all.

9. Canada and Guyana couldn't decide on who would govern Honduras so England has to do it.

10. Napoleon didn't reinstalled slavery so Haiti has remained a highly autonomous protectorate of France, which serves as a gateway to Louisiana.

11. Same as California, the threat of Spanish invasion has kept the United Provinces of Central America in one piece. They tried to court either the British or the Austrians into an alliance. The former didn't because of Honduras territorial dispute. The later was not interested.

12. Without the Americans messing with their country, Colombia still keeps Panama. In TTL the French and Austrians jointly sponsored the Panama project and for that, are given special rights by the Colombian government.

13. Peru got their independent rather peacefully so they still maintain a close tie with Spain.

14. The Portuguese managed to keep the northern half of Brazil which they re-named Amazonia after an independence war initiated by the locals. They are trying to integrate Amazonia as much as possible by preaching the concept of pluricontinentalism.

15. The Brazilians were later than the Argentine to ally with France. The only options left are the Russians and Austrians, neither of which can offer them much protection against the Portuguese and the Argentine.

16. Taking advantage of the independence war in Brazil, Argentina grabbed a big portion of lands. However, they feel rather itchy because the Chileans are right beneath them without any natural border.

17. Due to a different situation, the Chileans were faster at colonizing Patagonia, which seems to upset the Argentine a lot. There is no boundary treaty between Chile and Argentina in TTL

18. Denmark-Norway survived the Napoleonic wars in one piece. Doing pretty well as one of France's most trusted allies.

19. Ireland and Scotland are enjoying their new positions as equal (white) Dominions of the British Imperial Federation.

20. After letting go of their own ego to federalize the Empire (in an attempt to compete with France), England felt like a mountain being lifted off their shoulders. Each Dominion now has to help administer some parts of the Empire.

21. The Kingdom of Holland was under the rule of Louis Bonaparte until his death and inherited by his son. Despite frequent quarrels with France due to conflicts of interests, the two countries has remained close until now.

22. The German states eventually joined together to form the Rhenish Federation with the blessings of Napoleon II. The Kaiser title is passed around every 6 years between the member monarchies, more like a ceremonial role nowadays.

23. Frenchicizing the Rhur has been a nightmare but 100 years of efforts finally paid off. France is currently enjoying the fruit of their labor as the industrial output of Wallonia and the Rhur keeps them the most powerful nation on Earth. Have enjoyed seeing Russia being ganged up in the Karelian War.

24. Napoleon didn't invade Spain in TTL. However, he secretly forced Ferdinand VII to abdicate in favor of his softer brother Francisco. By listening to French advices, Spain has managed to industrialize and maintain their position as one of the top great powers. Currently have the 3rd largest fleet in the world, after the British and the French.

25. Portugal didn't suffer being a battlefield either but they had another headache in Brazil. The Braganzas are currently thinking of having the king switch between Lisbon and Belem every 6 months

26. After losing against the Oriental Axis in the Far East War, Russia turned their attention back to Europe and remembered that they hadn't finished the job in Finland yet. Unfortunately, the Swedish Army after many Bernadotte reforms has become much tougher than the Russians thought.

27. During the Karelian War, a "genius" general suddenly thought of launching a preemptive attack on Prussia without orders from above. It failed spectacularly and brought both Prussia and Poland into the war, which hastened Russian defeat.

28. After the Karelian War, Sweden gained back Karelia, Prussia annexed the Baltic coast while Poland got most of Lithuania (except former Samogitia as the Prussians need it to connect their territories), forming the Polish-Lithuanian Union. The war greatly improved the relationships between the 3 countries as they are all guarding against Russia.

29. Having regained Silesia after Amiens, the Austrians rapidly industrialized during the mid 1800s and became one of the most technologically advanced nations in the world. The loss of Polish Galicia did them good as they had less ethnic conflicts to deal with, which allowed them more resources to explore Africa. They are currently in personal union with Albania and also in possession of Corfu.

30. The Russians re-located their capital to Moscow after the Karelian War as Saint Pertersburg became vulnerable to Swedish-Prussian encirclement. 2 simultaneous defeats against 2nd tier powers in just 10 years have thrown their aura of invincibility out of the window.

31. The Romanians keep being nagged about their uselessness during the Karelian War. Actually they didn't dare to advance much against the Poles in fear of their southern neighbor.

32. Bulgaria is a bit like a pariah state for their diplomatic isolation and militaristic nature. Both Romania and Byzantium are quite afraid of them.

33. The Pope still has a rather large portion of lands under his sovereign.

34. In contrast to what many people say, the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies is a very wealthy state, attracting a lot of immigrants from Italy. They have a powerful fleet to guard their African colonies and together with Austria, dominate the Eastern Mediterranean and the Red Sea.

35. As Russia is too far away to effectively control Constantinople, the city was given to the New Byzantine Empire, established after the crushing defeat of the Ottomans against the Austro-Russian alliance. The only conditions were that a cadet branch of the Romanovs must be put on the Greek throne and Russia is given unlimited access through the Strait. Their neutrality is guaranteed by both Austria and Russia.

36. Despite losing all the Balkan territories, the Western part of Anatolia and Iraq, the Ottoman Empire still exists and moves their capital to Iskenderun. The recent discovery of oil in Syria has given a breath of fresh air to their stagnant economy.

37. After the War Against the Turks, Austria took Cyprus and turned it into their main naval base in the Mediterranean. They also revived the Kingdom of Jerusalem. In a merciful act towards the Ottomans, Austria sought no further territorial gain in Syria.

38. Austrian Egypt. Coincidentally, the Habsburgs found out about the existence of the Magyarab tribe, which laid out the basics for their territorial claims. This is also the place to dump rebellious Hungarians.

39. Algeria is full of French settlers nowadays and has become de facto a part of Metropolitan France.

40. This small colony provides the Danes a reason to maintain their navy.

41. Spanish Guinea is larger than its original counterpart and remains a highly profitable colony.

42. Due to France and Britain being unable to agree on either of them having Congo, it was given to the Prussians instead. As Napoleon II married the daughter of Frederick William III - Princess Louise, the French found it acceptable. The colony satisfied Prussian thirst for raw resources, which contributed to their victory in the Karelian War.

43. The Dominion of South Africa is in charge of British Namibia and some southern islands. They refused to receive other inland African colonies as they already have too much patrol work to do.

44. A bit less successful inland than OTL but Ethiopia managed to gain sea access, which is a big win. They are also lucky that neither the Austrians nor the Sicilians has a hostile relationship with Russia

45. Kingdom of Hejaz. Being left alone by the Austrians as they have little to offer.

46. The Saudis were propped up by Russia during the War against the Turks to cause unrest for the Ottomans. The British-backed protectorates in the South hate them.

47. The Kurds are very grateful towards the Russians for giving them a state, not unlike how the Poles act towards the French. They always keep a close watch on the Turks in the Russians' stead.

48. Still eager to get a direct access warm-water port, the Russians invaded Persia, which turned into an early version of the OTL Afghanistan War. Stubbornly trying to save face, the Russians decided to incorporate the northern parts of Persia, the costs of which culminated to their later defeat during the Karelian War.

49. Even with the Russians weakened after the Karelian War, the Persians still don't think they can win. After the loss of Tehran, Persia re-located their capital to OTL Bandar Abbas, which is named New Tehran in TTL.

50. With the chaos in Persia and India, the Afghans gained sea access without anyone objecting.

51. A more widespread and violent Indian Mutiny resulted in a Russian-backed Mughal Empire in the North. This marked Russian early victory in the Great Game.

52. Despite losing one of their enclaves against the Mughals, Portugal took the opportunity to enlarge their other 2 enclaves.

53. When the British proved incapable to maintain complete control, the French jumped in and imposed a protectorate on the Southern part of India.

54. Britain still controls the largest portion of the Indian subcontinent but they have more enemies to watch out for. The loss of monopoly on India was the main catalyst for Britain to form the Imperial Federation.

55. Russia propped up the Emirate of Kashgaria during the Dungan Revolt to serve as a buffer state against the British Raj.

56. Dzungaria was directly annexed to provide the Russians a direct route into the Chinese heartland.

57. After being defeated by the Oriental Axis, Russia propped up Mongolia to guard their flank against the Koreans.

58. King Munjo of Joseon lived longer in TTL and successfully reformed the court. The country was then steadily on its path to modernize and finally ended its tributary status after the Sino-Korean War.

59. Qing-Empire-in-Exile. Although this place is a bit far away from the Manchurian core land, it's still officially part of the region.

60. Sakhalin is one thing but to lose even parts of Kamchatka to the yellow monkeys is the biggest humiliation for the Russians.

61. Japan views Korea in a completely different light in TTL as the latter reformed even earlier than them. After the Far East War, their alliance is even more strengthened.

62. Tianjin is the city with the largest concentration of foreign concessions, all great powers are available here, including France, Holland, Spain, Britain, Portugal, Prussia, Russia, Austria, the Two Sicilies, Burma, Korea and Japan.

63. After the Xinhai Revolution in 1911, China became a constitutional monarchy with the Duke of Yansheng on the throne. As such, the loss of Shandong has become increasingly unacceptable to the population.

64. The colonial race in China was even fiercer than OTL, especially in the coastal areas. At least, the great powers are not interested in the inland ones yet.

65. Although Beijing remains the de jure capital, the Chinese government has re-located its seat to Chongqing to avoid foreign influence.

66. Yunnan is under heavy influence of Burma.

67. A less powerful Britain couldn't win decisively against Burma during the Anglo-Burmese War, only imposing some acceptable terms on the Burmese. This loss, however, prompted Burma to reform and later become one of the 3 Asian great powers, along with Korea and Japan.

68. Austrian Andaman and Nicobar islands. After Austria made contact with a reformed Burma, the two countries quickly formed an alliance to better compete economically with other great powers in Asia.

69. Siam is not as lucky as their OTL counterpart, having to cede lands to everyone around them. At least they manage to keep the Thai core land in tact.

70. The French was in need of finding a base to compete against British Singapore in Asia. Cochinchina turned out to be what they wanted.

71. The rest of Dai Viet, or Annam became a Japanese protectorate.

72. Keeping the Philippines provides Spain an advantage against other great powers in China. In fact, their concession in the Pearl River Delta is among the largest concessions in the whole of China.

73. Austrian North Borneo.

74. England wanted to give the control of Papua New Guinea to Australia but the Australians refused, preferring to have the English forces nearby just in case the French start something funny. At least the plantations here are highly profitable so England doesn't mind much.

75. French Hollandia.

76. The Dominion of Australia. The border they share with Hollandia is the most militarized in the world.

EDIT: gave back Jamaica to the British

@koa_dan - coolness, but is there any reason why Jamaica is French ITTL?

Thank you. I'm not gonna lie though, the main reason is I felt it's a bit odd to color it pink there. However, I can say a different treaty of Amiens transferred Jamaica to France, in exchange for Saint Pierre, Dutch Guyana and Cape Colony.

But that's a terrible deal. Jamaica was worth way more than those colonies

Why, though? Jamaica is more valuable than Saint Pierre (a tiny island) or Dutch Guyana. And Britain could always just colonise east of the Cape.

Not a timeline of mine, The California Republic as seen in Mobiyuz Timeline 31. This timeline features the United States breaking up in the 1860's during a much worse American-Civil War and primarily explores the history of California following this break-up. For more of Timeline 31, click here. For a larger version of this map, click here.

This was actually a timeline here on this website before the creator rage-quit for some reason and deleted the entire thread for the TL. It's a shame too, Timeline 31 was an excellent read and had plenty of nice graphics to go with it.

Why did he do it?

Why did he do it?
It was in the previous map thread. Basically, he posted something in his map that was vaguely offensive about Mormons (something that was said in-character, not their actual beliefs), a mod checked in to clarify, and the creator freaked out, believing they were going to be banned, and ended up getting banned because of their freak out.

Actually, he insisted to be banned after freaking out, I doubt he would have been banned if he didn't freak out. Maybe a kick, but not a ban.
