Nice. Normally, when I see Soviet Unions that large, they're at war with Oceania and/or Eastasia.
Thanks, but I think I've already done that scenario.
This made me smile
and then frown, with the bitter realization of the world I currently inhabit
I'm glad you liked it.
That said it isn't a Utopia, the USSR is much better than it was in our world but it's still somewhat oppressive. The state is officially atheist with visible expressions of religion illegal, media is still heavily censored, and while neutered opposition parties exist their supporters are often intimidated and people who are too vocally critical of the government can lose their jobs.
You should check out
this timeline.
Interesting, if a bit word heavy. Not enough has been done with communist Germany.
Nicely done, Ephraim! One wonders what the British and the French were doing November 1918 - November 1920: World of Warcraft and Farmville hadn't been invented yet, right?
The British and the French did in fact send aid to the various White groups as they did OTL. However also as OTL they failed to send enough aid to fully defeat the Reds, and only managed to convince various populations that the Whites were the pawns of foreign powers. They had just come out of WWI anyway, and were hardly eager to plunge into another serious conflict.
(Bludgeoned to death with an icepick? Must have been a low-rent assassin...

That or the time-traveling ghost of Leon Trotsky.
THE WORLD MAY NEVER KNOW!
I love the map, but seeing communism be so widespread causes me physical pain.
Thank you.
America isn't as communist as it is democratic socialist, unlike the USSR they actually do have a competitive democracy (like Spain), real freedom of religion, genuinely free press, and their economic planning is largely restricted to industry.
How democratic and developed are the USSR and the USSA ?
Well the USSR permits the existence of alternate communist groups and of small opposition parties, but they use a combination of gerrymandering, vote stuffing, fraud, and intimidation to ensure that the Communist Party of the Soviet Union always has at least two thirds of the seats in the national legislature. Minor independent presses and opposition newspapers exist, but most media acts as a mouthpiece for the government. criticizing the government isn't illegal, but it can get you put on a list making you last in line for public benefits and a job. That said industry and standard of living are unevenly developed across the union- higher in Russia, Germany, and France, lower in places like Central Asia.
The USSA as mentioned previously is much more free and "right-wing", unions have a lot of power there and run much of the economy and small to medium scale capitalism is much more tolerated.
What a nice map ruined by Faux Cyrillic! Do you know how terrible this look to someone who can read the Cyrillic alphabet?
Seconded! Gives me a headache....
This is me when I was trying to read it:
The Comiitegi
Uiioi of Soviet Socialist Yaepublics, Special Ddmiiistrative Yaigeois, Uiited Socialist States of Ddmerica, Yaepublic of Spaii, Otheg Membegs of the Socialist Federatioi of Iatiois, Capitalist States shith Observer Status ii the SFI.
overusing faux cyrillic makes slav peoples eyes hurt
There are fonts that look Cyrillic-ish without using actual Cyrillic. Sadly I can never remember there names.
Doesn't justify making our eyes burn. Seriously, faux-Cyrilic is the internet equivalent of chopping onions for no particular reason while the entire household has pinkeye. And no, I'm not directing this at you specifically.
Muahahaha! My invidious plot to torture all the people who can read Cyrillic is working! Burn, eyes! BURN!
(Seriously I'm sorry, it won't happen again. Would it help if I made another version of the map with just time new roman?)
