Changing Industries: Nintendo pursues Manga instead of Video Games

Lastly, manga magazine, Shonen Jump, decides to pursue the video game industry thanks to Nintendo's refusal to put their Manga series on the publisher's manga magazine.
I'm reasonably sure that's not quite how the manga industry and manga publishing works....
Also, the entity that would decide to pursue the video game industry would presumably be the publisher, Shueisha, not an individual magazine.

There is also the small suspension of disbelief issue that it sounds as if Nintendo (and everybody else) is publishing U.S.-style single-series comic books and less
than a dozen titles, rather than Japanese-style phonebook-size anthologies.
(Case in point: Hajime no Ippo would not be losing sales over Punchout - Weekly Shonen Magazine might, in theory, but I 'm not sure its sales
were and are THAT dependent on a single series.)

Will make the changes. Thanks for your input.

Chapter 17: Hearts of Kingdoms Year 2002
Despite Squaresoft's big hit in Kingdom Hearts releasing for Dreamcast it also released for Apple's igame because of money hatting deals. The game would also have multiplayer mode akin to that of Birth by Sleep where one player plays as Sora and the other as Riku. Apple would also invest money to make Call of Duty their video game of choice for the console. Online play would include versus mode and the ability to keep track of whom killed whom. Battlefield 1942 was another game that Apple focused on just in case Call of Duty fell flat against the likes of the Halo series. Apple and Microsoft were not only competing in the video game market but also the Operating System market. Those who preferred Windows went to Microsoft and those that preferred MacOS went to Apple.

With the console wars getting heated and more expensive, SEGA saw the writing on the wall and decided to drop out of the console race. They would invest most in their arcade business until a certain Sammy corporation came knocking at their door.

Start up Retro Studios would get little to no work as gaming was focusing on shooters and Rare was getting no buyers much to the chagrin of the Stamper Brothers. Retro Studios would end up getting bought by Valve to help work on Half-Life 2 and Rare would get dissolved and have the developers scattered to the winds.

Nintendo's dealings with Disney paid off as they got plenty of exposure and money throughout the Star Fox Llyat Wars show. Pokemon was entering its newest season to adoring fans everywhere on Toonami and Legend of Zelda was focusing on the Ocarina of Time plotline where Link started out as a kid and turned into a young adult.

Things were looking up for Nintendo and Miyamoto just got another idea regarding an astronaut traveling to different planets with plant like animals called Pikmin that looked like Pikmin carrots. Miyamoto also took to liking boat adventuring in the Legend of Zelda the Wind Waker. Nintendo's other shows like Metroid and F-Zero ran their courses and were discontinued afterwards. Metroid would have one last saga in Metroid Fusion where Samus would focus on taking down the X-Parasites that could mimic any living creature. Nintendo would also release Wario Treasure Seeker for the Fox Kids channel to help offset Metroid and F-Zero from leaving the cartoon and animation market. Wario Treasure Seeker would focus on titular character Wario as he would travel the lands in search of buried treasure against rival Captain Syrup and her bands of pirates.

Final Chapter: As the Years Go by
This timeline has tons of years of nothing going on so I decided to wrap things up to give the audience a gist idea of what happens.

Microsoft releases its new XBox 360 in 2005 with the likes of Halo 2 and Halo 3 proving to be the most popular title for the console. Apple responds in kind by releasing its latest console the iplay, which has the same specs as Microsoft's XBox 360 and has Call of Duty to fight against Microsoft's Halo.

Apple’s console in question:

Sega gets bought out by the Sammy Corporation. Konami buys Hudson Soft and stops making video games to chase Pachinko Machines. Capcom continues to release titles for multiple consoles and showing no loyalty. Bandai and Namco merge together. Square and Enix merge together. Koei and Tecmo merge together. The video game industry focuses on Western type games leaving non-western gameplay popular in countries like Japan.

As for Nintendo's partners in OTL:
Monolith Soft becomes an independent game developer that makes games for phones.
Next Level Games gets bought out by Electronic Arts.
Retro Studios gets Valve backing to make games.

Disney tries to buy Nintendo but gets laughed out of the business room. Nintendo makes a board game Table Top Role Playing Game based on the Legend of Zelda. Nintendo enjoys profits for a few years until their works start to lose in popularity with upcoming and fresh new Manga that takes their places like Full Metal Alchemist The Brotherhood.

All in all, it is to say that Nintendo never entering the Console market makes everything a little worse off except for Western Type games.

Sad to see TTL end so soon, but I do wonder what happens by 2017-2024, aka OTL's Switch Era.
To answer that Nintendo loses more popularity as a manga creator and has a hard time keeping up with the industry. Super Mario Bros is popular but not as popular as say Dragon Ball Super.
