AHC: Make the Isis or Cybele cult the main roman religion.

How could these secret cults become the official religion of the empire instead of Christianity?

I have always been intrigued by these cults, which practically are the resurgence of the pre-Indo-European mother goddess cult.

It's true they're very interesting but I don't know if it could happen in the Roman Empire. Its society was very patriarchal and I doubt a goddess would've had preeminence over male gods like Jupiter or Mars.
But I'm not a specialist of Roman history.

But these cults were very popular in the empire, the cult of Isis extended to Hispania. If the emperors had sponsored them enough, it could easily have replaced Christianity.

Yes, you're right.
What I meant is, could they have spread so much without being considered a "danger" to more patriarchal cults?

Maybe it reforms to become similiar to Christianity in spreading the message and convinces non Hellenic Egyptians to join before Christianity kicks in.
