The New Order: Last Days of Europe Thread II

no i mean a ultramilitarist usa or france
God no, that's a terrible idea.

The interesting thing is that they were adamant on keeping the french colonial empire, so their path could force you to invade Africa.

No French government is gonna try and reinvade Africa because Germany would prevent them from building up militarily and its a massive waste of money anyhow. However all the French paths would seek to keep control over places like Madgascar and Algeria. Especially Algeria as it's seen as intergeral to France while Madgascar is seen as the "final colony".

As we see here, this leak (which is still mostly up to date, I checked on ask a dev) shows Algeria as apart of France at game start. Keeping control of it is gonna be a key aim of every French leader likely to get content: Poujade, Sidos, Pinay, Bichelonne and maybe Gaxotte.

also a us civil war path would be really good with a ton of factions and ideologis
TNO has been very clear that an American civil war path will never be added, hell they're removing the German civil war soon because its a shitty idea that conflicts with the 3 way cold war narrative. Can't have a cold war if one of the superpowers fall into a civil war. Also the German civil war gets boring on a second playthrough, its so incredibly static in a way that a power struggle mechanic has the potential to be a lot more dynamic.

Memey super event compilations shouldn't be taken as basis for good content.

Personally I actually like the German civil war, as I feel like it makes sense for the Nazis to eventually resort to violence when Hitler stops holding them together makes sense, and tbh I think that trying to make the cold war genuinely balanced conflicts with the narrative of fascism being a failure, but I do support a way of streamlining the power struggle process to make the German intro easier to play. US civil war is stupid tho.

So, I have finished playing the Iberian paths, all of them, and I think that Iberia is a perfect summation of everything that is wrong with TNO's design philosophy. I should not have to replay the whole fucking 1962-1970 period 3-4 times because some decision I made in 1963 apparently locks me out of content in 1971. Sometimes it's better to be able to just have one event that says "so what happens to Iberia now" and pick from that.

Was actually gonna do a write-up on Iberia a while back but stuff got in the way. Might continue my review/overview of TNO playables soon.

But I agree wholeheartedly with your statement!

Just a reminder that Aristocratic Conservatism is still the best evil ideology in TNO

No Sablin, Buckhrina, Gus Hall or at least Nixon invalidate that hard.

Look if someone says Nixon is evil that someone would be in deeply trouble, the TNO community loves him.

Or the Tetris Tsar, for that matter, owing to the whole "Nazi collabs" thing yet people like Vyatka a lot.

The guy got a press by many people, me included, for adding Petlin. Petlin, Zykov and the Tetris Tsar (and also Butler) represent a TNO point that you can still recover if you persecute the evil you did and genuinely fights to make a better world.

It's insane that Petlin is there. Petlin is genuinely up there with Sablin with how much bullshit he gets away with.

Petlin pisses off literally everyone important at super regional. The corporations Matkovsky set up a whole board for in the government just gracefully accept them losing their power. The army just allows itself to be purged of Matkovsky loyalists and the most prominent opposition in the army (general Alexander Pavlov) just fuckin' gives up and goes home. The Labourists and Old Guard don't kick off a fuss when they're kicked off the government (though to be fair, this one can be explained by Petlin having majority reformists in the government).

And when Petlin sets up a democracy, does his own personal bias effect the process? He was an ex member of the RFP after all but nope he's perfectly fine with letting communists run for government after a grand total of 1 event. This need to make Petlin omega wholesome also character assassinated Matkovsky with the worst event in TNO currently with the radio free Magadan ending that favours him.

Also missing Bukharina, Sony and the Modernists.

What do the Modernists do exactly to make them problematic faves to stan?
They completely ignore the broken and shitty salon system and insist that it's perfect. They also pass legislation that prevents anyone who hasn't been to at least a college/university (been a while so I can't remember which) level education from being able to vote. Which given Russia has been in a warlord era for near 15+ years by gamestart is almost everyone and despite making this education free (somehow they can magically afford it despite being a wartorn destroyed country). The event points out that this still won't help the majority of Russians as they are too busy doing jobs in order to have enough money to survive and dont have time to pursue education.

True, Petlin is right wing Sablin.

I've been suggesting for years that what they should do is have a smaller German civil war. Basically, have a minigame where you sideline your rivals, but once you sideline two of them, the last one immediately revolts. You still have a major disruption to German power projection capabilities, but as only part of Germany is devastated by war, they can bounce back quickly.

That might be a good compromise yeah

Yes, this kills any hope o had for WA development, those are literal CCP talking points on why China is not a dictatorship.
And do not get me started on how moronic the Italy comparison is.
Someone on that note said that they support the WAA because, as flawed as they are, they are still better than either colonialism or turning West Africa into Yugoslavia (which is a valid concern IMO with how rickety Nigeria and Cameroon have been at times IOTL).

Might actually pick up TNO again soon, if only for a few campaigns. Honestly not really following the HOI4 modding community like I did in past years as I might've mentioned earlier but I think it's a cool setting, at least.
My itinerary to campaigns to play and review, in no particular order, are as follows:

Iberia
* My previous unreported playthroughs of Iberia included the rise of Opus Dei following the end of the dictatorship, as well as the collapse of Iberia following Salazar's death despite me doing almost everything right. I plan on torturing myself with an additional playthrough of Iberia to give a final assessment of how well the content holds up to contemporary standards. My end goal will either be to reform into a liberal democracy and to push as hard as I can with further reforms while avoiding a coup or civil war, or the easier to achieve Carnation Revolution. I don't have high hopes for my Iberia run.

Brazil
* Brazil is an underrated country with an overlooked history, and one that I've actually taken an interest in playing... mainly in Victoria 3. With that in mind, I'll either wait a good long while for Adhemar to get content, or I'll just go with the flow and see what happens in the four years that are already playable.

China
* The full decade of content for China. I did two playthroughs prior: the first was derailed by a shrimp boat causing World War III in the summer of '67; the second one was much better. I haven't played China since before the facelift that came with Toolbox Theory, so I want to do another campaign to see how well the narrative experience holds up.

South Africa
* The focal point of its namesake war, the South African War. I for one am not really good at fighting wars in HOI4 but I think my skills are sufficient enough to prolong the conflict enough as to where I can exhaust the focus tree and give my updated perspective.e.

The Southern Urals At-Large
* Orenburg, the Ural League, Magnitogorsk, and the Dirlewanger Brigade. There's definitely been facelifts/touchups/minor reworks since the original release of TNO, not to mention the two demos. Orenburg was a personal favorite long before the Siberian Black Army was playable. I intend to see how they hold up as we approach five years since the release of the Old World Blues demo in the spring of 2019.

Japan
* Specific campaign TBD, might either go for Takagi again or might play Ikeda instead. Japan getting a facelift in The Ruin means I absolutely ought to try this again. I don't expect things to be as interesting or as exciting as my original AAR/retrospective, which is still one of my favorite things that I've posted to this site.

Guangdong
* I played a Fujitsu campaign last Autumn, linked below. I plan on doing a Sony run, and I plan on improving my personal experience to the best of my ability by using the Sony Plus mod. Because I can, that's why. I'm actually looking forward to this one.

United States
* It's been too long since I've done a proper full-length US campaign. I tried a few times with Hart but his content was far too buggy for me to enjoy. I'll either give Hart another chance or I'll try something different, like a Bennett campaign or a two-term Wallace Presidency where he avoids advancing segregation. Or maybe I'll try and get Hall elected and give you my thoughts on his first 100 days. Nothing's set in stone, of course, but I'll take the opportunity to go over the revised proxy conflicts and the CIA mechanics while I'm at it.

A West Russian Warlord
* Obviously gonna play Komi. Not Taboritsky though, he's been memed to death and there's enough grimdark stuff going on in real life as it is. Instead I'll either maintain a liberal democracy under Ivan Morozov or I'll bring in one of the leftists.

A West Siberian Warlord
* I'll flip a coin: Heads, I play Omsk and see what the whole fuss is about the Great Trial. Tails, I do a somewhat more uplifting Sverdlovsk run under Batov.

A Central Siberian Warlord
* The Siberian Black Army is my favorite Russian "warlord" "state" and my first game of TNO at release all the way back in 2020. As such I... will not be replaying them, but I'll stick in a blurb about how much I enjoyed the nuanced narrative of a large-scale organization of society on anarcho-communist lines. I'll probably play Novosibirsk.

A Far Eastern Warlord
* WerBell and Sablin have been memed to hell and back, I'm not interested in following fascists, Alexander Men's content remains skeletonized as of the current version, and both puppet monarchs and tyrants aren't my thing. This therefore means my relevant campaign with either be Irkutsk with the Party empowered, or Chita with Tsar Mikhail II empowered.

The Others
Campaigns for Onega, Zlatoust, Yunnan, RKs Zentralafrika and Ostafrika, and the Republic of Ukraine may also happen, or they may not. Any campaign options that are on the losing end of a coin flip I'll either play anyway, try out in 2025, or I'll simply never get around to them. I won't play Germany until after it and its Civil War gets reworked, whenever that happens to be. Also won't touch Italy until after Penelope's Web drops, whenever that happens to be as well.

Needless to say, between my focus on trying yet again to get my life sorted out and my interest in other games more than HOI4 this year, don't be surprised if i don't even cover a quarter of this list. But you have my permission to be disappointed in advance. :p

Previous campaigns/reports/personal reviews in this thread:

* Japan - Takagi [December 2021, mod version 1.2.x]
* U-SSR, Angola, and Ordenstaat Burgund
* Guangdong - Fujitsu (Reconciliation)
* Guangdong - IJA Coup, Norway, Ireland, and the United Kingdom
* Zombie Apocalypse and Ponylon

I'll also mention I'm... not 100% sure how to feel or what to say about the discourse around the mod and its leaks. All I'll say at the moment is "you can't please everybody". Though the GCW proposal where the last remaining contender launches a desparate armed bid for power sounds pretty cool actually, at least in comparison to its current implementation.

A Yugoslavia backed by Japan's Co-Prosperity Sphere, no less. More or less exporting Imperial Japan's model of BS 'Pan-Asianism' to an African context with an addition a red coat of paint.

I also question what will happen after the PLAF win the West African War against the FMA/WAA... Will they be like, open to Japanese economic investments and/or exclusive resource extraction right? How long will Japan be happy to back a bunch of African socialists just for the sake of 'area denial' against OFN? I have a strong suspicion of this becoming a case of 'who is taking advantage of who' situation between Japan and Cameroon, all the while, the PLAF either not even being able to offer the standard of living and/or stability that Yugoslavia under Tito that kept the place together as long as it did.... Or that it will be exactly like Yugoslavia, in the sense of the standard of living being artificially propped up by Japanese investments, loans, and economic aid that more or less vanish into thin air upon arrival, either ending in the place becoming totally subservient to Tokyo's economic interests, or fall apart the moment Japan finds itself no longer able to keep the gravy train going once the Great Asian War breaks out.
