Historical Maps of the Habsburg Empire - A highly detailed database site.

FEEFHS Map Room - 50 detailed maps of Germany, Austria-Hungary, Russia, the Balkans, and the Baltics from the 1882 Blackie and Sons atlas, all available at the site of the Federation of East European Family History Societies. The same site also includes a nice Genealogy Resource Directory.

Who was who in our history up until 1918 - Database courtesy of the publisher Libri, based on their series of printed biographical dictionaries. The encyclopedia covering the period until 1918 contains biographies of about 800 people notable in the history of Czech and Slovak lands. Short information is provided about another 1,000 people.

Who was who in our history in the 20th century - Database courtesy of the publisher Libri, based on their series of printed biographical dictionaries. The encyclopedia for the 20th century contains biographies of over 1,200 people and short information about 2,000 others.

Hrady.cz - Castles and chateaus of the Czech Republic.

Zamky-hrady.cz - Manors, Castles and Historical Towns of the Czech Republic.

Znicenekostely.cz - Ruined churches, chapels or synagogues in the Czech Republic.

The Encyclopedia of Bridges in Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia - Database hosted by Czech publisher Libri, based on content from one of their series of non-fiction.

Czech Film : Actors and Actresses - Database hosted by Czech publisher Libri, based on content from one of their series of biographical dictionaries. Alphabetical listing and the menu are located at the bottom of the main field.


Economy, Research and Transport

Škoda Museum - The official website of the Laurin & Klement and Škoda museum in Mladá Boleslav.

Tatraportal.sk - Extensive info on the Tatra brand of motorcars and trams (with a history of each pre-1990s model). The link leads to the English section. Only some parts of the site are fully translated into English, but it's still a rich source of information.

Velorex.com - Similar site to the above one, but specializing purely on the Velorex brand of Czech microcars and their history.

Atlas lokomotiv.net - Database of Czech-built and Czech-developed diesel and diesel-electric locomotives, including DMUs and EMUs. (Only in Czech, but easily translatable.)

Narrow-gauge railways of Czechia - Source text in Czech. Includes historical photos from different periods. Not an exhaustive list of all such railways.

Military topics

Valka.cz - Highly detailed Czech and English language website on Czech, European and global military history.

First Republic Aircraft - Detailed website about interwar era Czechoslovak military aircraft.

Assault Chariots in Pictures - A Czech website with an excellent collection of historical and contemporary photos of interwar Czechoslovak armoured vehicles (including armoured cars, tanks, tank destroyers, armoured rail vehicles, etc.). For further use of the photos, please consult the site's admin first.
