Louisiana is a U.S. state located in the southeastern section of the country. It is bordered to the south by the Gulf of Mexico, to the east by Mississippi, to the north by Arkansas, and to the west by Texas. The capital city is Baton Rouge. The current Governor is Bobby Jindal.
Louisiana, at one time or another, has existed under the flags of France, Spain, and Great Britain before becoming a territory (and later state) of the United States. In 1810, several southeastern parishes were part of the short-lived West Florida Republic. From 1861 until 1865, Louisiana was part of the Confederate States of America.
Louisiana is home to two professional sports franchises: the New Orleans Saints of the NFL, and the New Orleans Hornets of the NBA. Many citizens of Louisiana are fanatics about college sports, in particular those who follow the sports teams of Louisiana State University.
Louisiana is known around the world for its music, food, getting smacked by hurricanes, its state-of-the-art edukayshun system, and corrupt politics.
