What do you think would happen if a party with a pretty general and normal program, not too different from any modern center-left or center-right party won the elections in a country like Poland, Hungary, Romania, or the Czech Republic, then the new Prime Minister and the people with the most power in the party slowly start to reveal that they are very into the occult and magic (similar to Hitler and Himmler though not necessarily being far-rightist and/or Nazis).

They begin a program to acquire rumored powerful relics like the Spear of Destiny and the Holy Grail, establish a division of people to research Soul Magic and what happens after death (kinda like the Department of Mysteries in Harry Potter), start to do experiments on dying patiens and cadavers who died not long ago, and start a magic and parapsychology research division not too different from the CIA's previous MKULTRA project.

They also establish very good relations with the Catholic Church and Vatican exorcists and interview them on their experiences with demonic possession, they question priests about holy relics and what kind of powers these relics showed and ask for information about what kind of "White Magic" was performed by people in the Middle Ages and to what degree the Church allowed it.

As time passes the party would start to reveal this side of it more and more aside from dealing with mundane things.

What reaction do you think a government and party like this would invoke both in the country and in the world?

I don't know how good of relations a state openly dabbling in witchcraft would be able to establish with the Vatican.

It depends on what occultism they’re doing, but American evangelical ‘spiritual warriors’ might flip.

They would especially ask about "White Magic" and Church-sanctioned magic which common people were allowed to dabble in, in the old days.

It would be different from American "spiritual warriors" and more in line with "The Witcher".

Perhaps a Nazi Germany that firmly breaks with the Catholic Church, and mainline Christianity generally, sometime after winning in Europe?

EDIT: I did not see that strong relations with the Catholic Church were part of this challenge. That makes this even more difficult.

I did a wikibox on Aleister Crowley taking over Britain where he exploits a Central Powers victory in WWI and an alt-Depression to set up a state rooted in Thelemic principles.

Unless they establish a dictatorship of some sort, I imagine that they might get voted out like any other regular party. If they seriously spend too much money on their "habits" they might get charged for corruption.

The leader of a state that asks questions about this stuff to the Holy See isn't anything as important as it may look like.
If this movement tries with more occult stuff the Church is going to politely stop their relationship. It's 2019 also in the Vatican.

"Because of this, the text instructs that all priests should teach at every possible instant that such beliefs are phantasms inspired by an evil spirit. [...]
The text emphasizes that the heretic belief is to hold that these transformations occur in the body, while they are in reality dream visions inspired in the mind."
