WI: Hua Guofeng retains power as Paramount Leader of PRC?

Following the death of Mao Zedong, Hua Guofeng, a moderate in the Communist Party, became Paramount Leader. Guofeng quickly removed the radical "Gang of Four" from becoming a threat, but he was eventually outmaneuvered and removed from power by Deng Xiaoping and his reformer faction.

So what if Guofeng, a committed Maoist willing to compromise on some issues, retained power? Would the rise of "Socialism with Chinese Characteristics" be prevented by this, or simply delayed?

China's economic situation is very bad in late 1970s,and Sino-Soviet relations close to freezing,so I think Hua must seek reform and opening up and friendly relations with the West like OTL.If he refusing to do this, maybe he will be removed in late 1980s
