Political Parties of NeuGuinea:
The NeuGuinean system is very much in favour of the majority party, with the system a one party, dominant system (the party also has large control of the media and even the judiciary). The country is described as a hybrid regime and even slightly authoritarian in nature (certainly the least free out of itself, Antipodea, New Wessex, Nieuw Holland and Aotearoa). The country has a fierce rivalry (and hatred, despite both having cordial international relations) with Antipodea.
Dominant Party:
Social Christian Party (Right-Wing) - Christian Democracy, Social Conservatism, Economic Populism, Economic Nationalism, Right-Wing populism
Leader: Michael Somare
The dominant party in NeuGuinea since gaining independence in 1943. The Party is a Christian democratic, socially conservative and economically populist party. The party controls large parts of the media (even censoring the media to an extent and the media they report, mostly reporting favourable stories about the party and criticism being relatively little) as well as controlling (to an extent, they can't get away with blatant abuse) of the court system. Traditionally they have leaders who were all of German origin, however, their current leader, is their first indigenous leader (showing some signs of change). Despite being a largely conservative party, economically, their policies are all over the place. The country however does have a more economically conservative basis (low taxes, universal healthcare is very basic), but does engage in high spending on certain projects (such as clean coal projects, upgrading major roads and highways across the main island, the national rail etc). Since 1943, they have always been in government (something that doesn't look like changing soon).
Official Opposition:
Movement for Democracy (Big Tent) - Libertarianism, Social Libertarianism, Economic Libertarianism, Populism, Anti-Establishment, Direct Democracy, E-Democracy
The second largest party (however, by comparison, their vote share is only 1/4 of the vote share of the SCP) and one of the newer parties to the system. They are a party advocating for a complete hands off approach by the government and that the governments actions are based on popular opinion of the people. One of the first changes they said they would bring forth would be the mass change of media laws that protect current institutions as well as the cleaning up of the courts. Besides this, they said they would have a referendum on other major projects (such as major military conflicts, spending projects, healthcare, education etc). They stated that they would also minimise the effect of government.
Against the System (Left-Wing) - Papuan Interests, Social Democracy, Pirate Politics, Left-Wing Populism
Against the System is a mostly Papuan interests party that advocates for the rights and recognition of the Papuan and Indigenous population. They've stated that they should be compensated for the actions of the SCP government and like the MfD, also want to see matters such as the courts and media freed from the influence of the SCP. The two parties currently have a supply and confidence agreement to form the official opposition. Many Papuan's, who feel disenfranchised by the current situation, vote for the party. Despite almost all the laws regarding restrictions being removed, they are hoping for true equality between the White and Papuan population (with major investment in Papuan communities, including in education, healthcare and safety), they however are not just a party for Papuan's (their motto is, translated to roughly 'A Party for All').
Other Parties:
Restoration Front (Far-Right) - German Interests, Ultranationalism, NeuGuinean Nationalism, National Conservatism, Economic Nationalism, Anti-Immigration, Anti-Integration, Neo-Fascism, Right-Wing Populism, Anti-Globalism, Islamaphobia
This far-right party advocates for the restoration of some of the more restrictive policies that the SCP had against bringing together the indigenous and german minority population (believing the indigenous and white population should be separate with separate systems). The party is widely criticised by those outside the country as being inhumane and an hate group (especially in Antipodea, where the party got declared an extremist organisation by several parties on the left). The party also takes a more traditionalist view on families and education, even advocating for authoritarianism and the cracking down on protest, stating that they would suspend elections for 10 years until they 'restore' the country. They are easily one of the most far-right parties in the world today (with many, inside and outside of NeuGuinea, despising them, with many considering them 'far-right nuts'). Despite this, their is a section of the German population that does vote for the party.
Reformist Democratic Party (Centre to Centre-Right) - Classical Liberalism, Liberal Conservatism, Economic Conservatism
The party was formed from the Reform Party and Liberal Democratic Party to form its current iteration. They're a classically liberal party that is pro big business. They sometimes vote with the Social Christian Party but mostly they have remained outside of government or opposition, mainly sticking to advocating for pro business policy to encourage economic growth.
Environmental League (Centre-Left) - Green Politics, Progressivism, Animal Rights
The party is the major environmental party in the country, mainly formed as a result of opposition to the SCP's continued policy of pursuing coal power and coal mining as well as lack of action on climate change (with many in the SCP being against major action against Climate Change). The party has gained a lot of momentum in recent years but has decided to stay away from opposition in order to not dilute its message. It is a message that has resonated somewhat with the most people with 68% of people wanting to see more renewables or some kind of assistance for people to install renewable energy sources.
