So, what do you think happens to the Church and the Pope in a Red Italy scenario? On my end, I imagine that Soviet interactions with the Patriarch of Moscow or the PRC setting up state-controlled associations for "patriotic" Christians/Buddhists/Muslims would be good equivalents for how Red Italy treats the Church.

Considering that they might be facing Germany and have no Geopolitical Allies whatsoever probably live and let live.
The dying pope (according to the old Vatican lore not really paying much attention nowadays) was critical of Fascist Regimes in general meaning they would probably not try to alienate the Catholic world while they are busy with the neighbor above. Last thing they need is accidentally pissing off all Catholic Nations in the world.
If they win against Germany and no nukes fly, they can honestly do anything and the world won't stop them.
It will depend who comes out from the power struggle honestly.
And we know the reds will range from christian socialism to cultural revolution lunatics.
If I'm not mistaken there's apparently going to be a christian socialist path.

I imagine him writing the Theory of the Partisan about German occupied Russia and a focus on his geopolitical writing to be on about the victory of Germany and the assertion of its sphere of influence on Europe. Speer would probably use him in a Deng Speer victory to create a stronger legal basis for his rule.
