Imagine Himmler's confusion when he realize that Senator Pierce is actually NOT a Burgundian agent that managed to infiltrate the US government
That someone who was basically an IRL burgsys can get become so powerful is one of the most terrifying things in the mod
Pierce publishes "Turner Diaries" in TNO timeline, Himmler founds and reads it. Scared that his super secret plan was leaked he starts frantic purges: after a lot of shot SS officers, STRENG GEHEIM, certain screaming Waloon, coups and countercoups Burgundy collapses. And that's how W.L. Pierce saved a world.
P.S.: After personnal diary of Himmler is published after collapse of Burgundy, Pierce shpts himself in despair.

So I had done some more digging on the individuals that make up "The List" of NPP-L and NPP-R candidates for the United States Senate, and it rather quickly became clear that, well..... do any of you remember the original make-up of the Syndicalist Cabinet for Denmark, how it was a moss pit of different Leftist Authors and some such? Turns out this is much the same thing, as while all of the figures present have their own tales to tell, a lot of them are assigned to States that have nothing to do with them. I can't really blame the developers though as it would have been hell trying to find the right people, if there are any accounts left of them anyway.
In terms of my own State, Howard Benjamin Rand is a rather interesting figure in terms of being aligned with the Yockey's, to the point where I am not sure if he actually fits, or if he would be a part of it's "Left Wing" if that makes any sense. He was one of the quasi-founders of the Christian Identity Movement, believing that the British and by extension Americans were the true descendants of Judah, and that the Jews were descended from the Canaanites. Rand himself however could not really be considered Anti-Semitic beyond this point, and he was also a committed Pacifist. It leaves me unsure how exactly he would square with a Party that seeps in Anti-Semitism and Racism, unless he is hoping to act as a Moderating Influence of some sort.
Wickliffe Draper, eugenicist, segregationist, founder of the Pioneer Fund which financed research into "race betterment", support of the "Back to Africa" movement, advocate of compulsory sterilization of the mentally ill and disabled, it goes on. There is a lot of flaws that could be touched on, including his relationship with Wilhelm Frick and the German Nazi Party. He inherited ownership of the Draper Corporation, the largest textile machinery producer in the country till about the 70's when the Japanese outcompeted them, so he had plenty of money to throw around as well. However Draper was something of a recluse, so I'm not sure he could have ever become a politician in the same vein as his Uncle Eben, who had been Governor of Massachusetts.
Lona Cohen, or rather Helen Kroger, was a Soviet Spy who carried out espionage with her husband Morris, though she is most well known for smuggling out a complete diagram of the first Atomic Bomb, Little Boy. She never resided in Massachusetts but rather New York, as many Communists and Socialists did it seems. She was an out and out avowed Communist though, and from the little I can gather it seems she definitely would have the temperament to seek office.
Henning Blomen, well there isn't much to say about him. He was a Socialist rather than a Communist, running as the former's Presidential Candidate in '68 and for Governor of Massachusetts fourteen times. Ironically it is easier to find material on his wife, Connie Blomen, then himself.
------------------------------------------------------
Also my post on Reddit with my suggestions on various aspects of TNO continues to grow, though a lot of what was added today was heavily influenced by what the BlackICE Mod has done; the ability to actually stockpile resources instead of the "import 'em as you need 'em" approach I believe would be a nice touch at the very least, as well as two different kinds of Static AA.

Just a prediction after my last playthrough as Yeltsin's Sverdlovsk:

I am predicting that when it comes time for the 1970s' in TNO2, after reunifying Russia under the Russian Federative Republic, president Yeltsin will not be able to stay in power as the president for long, either that, or he will be dealing with a 1993 Constitutional Crisis style coup against his rule

For one thing, by the end of his current content, the tensions between his civilian government and Batov's military which has been present since the regional unification stage never gets resolved, with the latter starting to suspect a lot of a dirty behind-the-scenes politics that Yeltsin and his Prime Minister....

Who was a former Black League defector from Omsk

... Have been engaging in, even if Batov doesn't quite know exactly why this is going on.

Secondly, look at Yeltsin's quote during the Russian Reunification super-event:

'A man must live like a great brilliant flame and burn as brightly as he can. In the end he burns out. But this is far better than a mean little flame.'

During one of his events, we got to hear Yeltsin's internal monologue to himself, in which he admitted that he is doing everything, from being a democratic dissident, to building up the country's economy, to fighting to reunifying Russia, out of his own ego and his desire to be remembered as a great hero in history.... Well, if he managed to get all the way to the national reunification stage, he most certainly would have accomplished that, with his name being remembered by history forever, along side the likes of Peter the Great... Right in time for his flame to burn out before the final confrontation with Germany.

Just a prediction after my last playthrough as Yeltsin's Sverdlovsk:
Playing through Batov right now. I got to say the junta are pretty benevolent and genuinely care for the people. Their situation was shit so they must do what they did, people can't just expect Bukharin era living standard when all around us are chaos. If Yeltsin is like you said then I feel better picking Batov path.

Well, despite of memes in the wider TNO community, that gives you the impression of Yeltsin being on-par in terms of corruption with Oktan over in Samara or something.... He is honestly not that bad of a unifier in terms of how the people of Russia will end up being under his rule.

Sure, his PM Yevgeny Primakov had connections with the Black League in Omsk, and in order to bury this particular skeleton in the closet, he used the Internal Security Bureau (The same Bureau that was originally created by Rokossovsky to fight against the Black League and Tyumen) to engage in all sorts of shady deals, including one political assassination, to keep things under wraps. And sure, Yeltsin is still a total alcoholic and engages in shock theory in order to jump start the economy....

But on that point about the shock theory, compared to OTL, Yeltsin did things here much more slowly and carefully, with policies such as him officially recognizing the regional soviets leftover from the days of the USSR and allowing them to manage local level administration, and even made a point to create a basic social safety net after starting his privatisation programs. Also, when part of his focuses include stuff like constitutionally guaranteeing workers the right to go on strike (As long as the trade union organising said strike is not socialist), allowing the freedom of the press and the freedom to assembly, etc, it all puts him above most other warlords.

For those that are curious, here is a screenshot taken from the mod's localisation file, about that event towards the very end of a Yeltsin playthough, when he had his monologue:

Screen Shot 2020-10-15 at 8.12.08 PM.png

A Russia unified under Yeltsin's Sverdlovsk is basically OTL 1990s' post-USSR 'New Russia'.... Minus the economic collapse or massive amount of organised crime running rampant. Not nearly as bless as an Tomsk under any of the salons besides the Bastillards, or Petlin's Magadan.... But not a bad unifier by any means.

So I thought I'd take a look at the NPP senators for my own state (Washington):

Howard Costigan was the executive secretary of the Washington Commonwealth Federation (a political pressure group) while secretly being a member of the Communist Party, although he left the Party after the signing of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact. He actually later testified to HUAC about Communist activity in the US, and became something of an anti-communist. I can sorta buy him in the NPP, although given the Brown Scare (and an obvious hatred of fascism), best to make sure he never runs into any of the Yockeys, lest he start a fist fight.

Abraham Osheroff was a union organizer and activist. He was once arrested for moving the furniture of evicted families back into their homes. He served in the Abraham Lincoln Brigade, ran for the New York state legislature as a Communist, and worked in the Civil Rights Movement. He was also Jewish, which would make dealing with the Yockeys... interesting.

I can't find any definitive information on James Raymond White. He's not on Wikipedia, and there appear to be multiple individuals by that name. I did find a Silver Alert for a James Raymond White, age 88, who went missing from his home in Federal Way in 2016. He's the right age to have been in politics in the 1960s, so he could be our guy.

Wallace Hugh Allen was slightly easier to track down. There's very little information about him, just that he was a suspect in the 1958 bombing of a synagogue in Atlanta. So odds are that he was a white supremacist.

I do wonder how a party, consisting of:

-Hardcore segregationists (extreme enough to give Wallace pause)
-Literal terrorists (murderers, mutilators, bombers, lynchers, etc.)
-Esoteric neo-fascists
-Open proponents of mass genocide
-Open proponents of somehow even more mass genocide
-Nazi apologists
-Out-and-out Nazis
-Spiritualist white supremacists
-Literal agents of Burgundy

manages to function in any acts of governance. IRL, the American far-right was, for a long time, splintered and divided, and it seems that legacy rings true in TNO too, even if they manage to unite behind Yockey. It makes sense why Yockey would be such a unifier for the far-right, he speaks of both spiritual and biological supremacy in Imperium, and his ridiculous, over-the-top word-use is vague enough to trick most American far-righters into thinking he believes what they do.

Another comment on the music mod: the Japanese song 'Kuroneko no Tango' is, in this context, incredibly creepy. It's a whimsical-sounding children's song sung by a young girl, but it also has such a militaristic beat, like it's a marching song; its a musical reflection of just how militarized Japanese society is, that there's an undercurrent of marching boots even under a children's song about a black cat that ends with a 'meow'. I have a vivid image in my mind of Japanese soldiers under Ikeda or Kishi marching through Chinese villages during the Great Asian War and pitilessly gunning down all who get in their way, the sounds of flames from burning flesh crackling in the background. It's really disturbing to hear it playing during a Japan game, especially when you're seeing event after event of Imperial Japan's victims.

Does anyone know when the material from the “Cutting Room floor” will be added?

Obviously it’ll get finished when it does, but I kind of that that it would be completed and added by now.

eyyyy i wrote that event

Also thank you for stating this, it's good to see something outside of memes screaming at me over how Yeltsin is the great satan and how myself and the others who wrote events for him have created the most evil being in russia :p

Mostly because most of the people on that list don't matter. For all the talk about extremists 98/100 times, they will never get into power or even get within breathing distance of the Whitehouse. They are a player only route which requires grinding the US into the asphalt from start to finish the moment you begin the game.

The NPP itself is primarily composed of the Center (Basically slightly lefty, extremely Hawkish Dems, + a "Radical" faction of DemSocs), and the FR (Hardline Dixiecrats, the Burgeoning Neo-Con movement, Right-wing Hawks).
As for their candidates
- Wallace is a cynical, cynical politician who can and often does drop the segregationist rhetoric if it suits him and can push for populist reforms
- RFK is a hard-driving Civil Rights activist driven by his brother's death
- MCS is a centrist Hawk,
- Harrington is a DemSoc.
- Kirkpatrick is basically Reagan-lite
- Scoop is food stamps and bombs

Minor query: I've been doing some minor modding of the... well, mod to make it so finishing the Russian nuclear program will actually give your Russian state some nukes instead of just sitting there for an eternity sucking money from your budget for nothing. Here's what I did:

First, I punched open the RUS_generic_decisions in the decisions folder and took a look at how it was laid out and compared it with relevant trigger for Burgundy's events and decisions to deduce how it'd work out. For the custom tooltip trigger, I basically added the following:

AND = {
has_country_flag = RUS_nuclear_program_phase_5
check_variable = { RUSNukesRefineProgress = 100 }
}

Based on my understanding of the code, this would basically be a continuation of the prior coding: lets the player to actually be able to press the button again when the last phase reaches 100%. Then under the complete effect I added the following:

else_if =
{
limit = {has_country_flag = RUS_nuclear_program_phase_5}
clr_country_flag = RUS_nuclear_program_phase_5
clr_country_flag = RUS_started_nukes
tno_improve_nuclear_stockpile = yes
modifier = {nuclear_stockpile_monthly_rate = 4}
}

Again, if my understanding of the codetalk is correct, this is supposed to instantly set the nuclear stockpile to single warhead and give the progress a monthly increase of four (a figure chosen based on a combination of my interpretation of what each "level" of nuclear stockpile seems to mean measured against the historical growth of the Soviet nuclear stockpile) while simultaneously removing the program from the decisions menu since it's served it's purpose and is now complete.

So what worked in my test game:
  1. Clicking the button a fifth time set the nuclear stockpile to "single warhead".
  2. The program cleared out of the decisions menu after clicking the button a fifth time.
What didn't work:
  1. The button became available RIGHT as we entered the fifth stage/weapon manufacturing. That is, I didn't have to wait for it the stage to actually finish and for it to reach 100%.
  2. The monthly progress didn't change one bit, so I'm stuck at just a single-warhead (or a couple of dozen, based on my interpretation of what that means) for eternity.
After rexamining the code, I figured out the reason for the first problem. It shouldn't be "RUSNukesRefineProgress", since that is for phase 4 rather than phase 5, but "RUSNukesWeaponsProgress". But can anyone tell me what went wrong with the second?

Looking at the code, you need to replace the "modifier = {nuclear_stockpile_monthly_rate = 4}" with a "TNO_improve_nuclear_stockpile_high = yes", which will give you 3 monthly progress. Instead of manually improving the socdev in the rewards, TNO uses a set of scripted effects which modify socdev rate, listed in common/scripted_effects/TNO_SocDev_scripted_effects.txt. If you want the rate to be 4, you could use a "TNO_improve_nuclear_stockpile_high" and a "TNO_improve_nuclear_stockpile_low", or two "TNO_improve_nuclear_stockpile_medium", or whatever other combinations of 1, 2, and 3 that reach 4 that you prefer. You could also add your own effect in this file that gives 4 socdev rate but then you'll have to add localization for that as well or steal it from another socdev scripted effect. As an example of formatting, observe this random focus that improves socdev:
completion_reward = {
log = "[GetDateText]: [Root.GetName]: Focus MAG_the_gold_of_aldan"
TNO_improve_industrial_expertise_low = yes
TNO_improve_industrial_equipment_med = yes
}

Of course, if you really want to do it manually, you'd have to use something like this:
custom_effect_tooltip = improve_nuclear_stockpile_large
add_to_variable = { nuclear_stockpile_monthly_change = 4 }
I haven't tested this, but in principle this should work, albeit the text will be the same as for a +3 improvement; this code can also be used for making a custom scripted effect. You can also get rid of the first line if you don't care about that.

Huh, really? Because I pulled that code from the Burgundy decision "additional nuclear spending" which used modifier = {nuclear_stockpile_monthly_rate = 1}. Or maybe it used your code and I misremembered when bringing it over. Regardless, thanks for the clarification! I'll give it a try...

EDIT: That did the trick. Thanks a bunch!

Bormann in muricaland!

For this occasion, I really want to bring up this post that I made all the way back in 2019 about a hypothetical Bormann visit to the US is going to look like....

Imagine the trip being an ATL mirror of Khrushchev's 1959 visit to the US... But with all the more 'colourful' parts taken up to 11, grim hilarity ensures. With events such as:

- Bormann crossing the Atlantic on an untested ultra-advanced spaceplane that was actually jury-rigged from the prototype of the Amerikabomber with a VIP passenger cabin installed. With the thing being so untested that children of the engineers that made the thing being taken on board alongside Bormann as hostages... Only for the plane to encounter an engine issue and force to go for an emergency landing at Eisenhower AFB in Iceland.

- When visiting the New York Stock Exchange, Bormann ended up spending way too much time geeking out and getting childishly excited when learning about American secretarial bookkeeping techniques. When he tried to talk to one of said secretaries via a translator, she wrote him a note that simply says, 'Fuck off, my mother was from England'.

- When speaking in front of the US Congress at Capitol Hill, Bormann will talk about how he knows all about the 'Zionist Occupational Government' and their international Jewish plots.... But it is totally OK. Because he is willing to negotiate with it on behalf of the Greater German Reich. Resulting in every congressman that isn't a member of the Right-NPP who isn't also a closet Yockey walking out in protest.

- Bormann throwing a monumental hissy fit and going on a five minute long temper tantrum during a formal state dinner with business leaders and diplomats over how his handlers will not let him go watch a musical performance at Broadway due to security concerns. As over 2 dozen terrorist groups ranging from the Black Panthers, the Russian mafia, and the Weather Underground have mailed in assassination threats.
