Liberia has the power to make tree's float! 😳
Keep in mind pre civil war almost everything outside of Monrovia was pretty much undeveloped and dirt poor. When the county systems away from the coast we're actually created, the people who created them:

- Didn't have a fancy degree and had minimum knowledge of the flags of the rest of the world.
- Didn't have the technology or equipment to design real flags.
- Had no real existing government and/or infrastructure to actually help them make flags.
- Only knowledge of art was Native African style of art.
- Liberia was never a European colony with a elite educated in Europe that felt the need to integrate European culture.

So the floating tree's fixed everything! 😳

Turrible, just turrible.

Even without the historic baggage, it's an ugly flag. Wide horizontal stripes combined with diagonal stripes in the upper left corner. And the thin strip of white under the rebel flag, so it looks like it didn't quite fit.

The replacement is very nice.

This is a real flag seal, for a real place. It was made by a real life human in my local area, he agrees it is terrible and has been advocating for a better one since he made this monstrosity. It seems the county was unwilling to hire someone with any form of qualifications to make a proper seal and instead had some dude in the county government make it.

Good God that's horrid :p

A lot has been said about how the Nazis were looking dashing while being mass murderers, but sometimes they weren't even looking dashing.

Well, in fairness, the thin white stripe does add a touch of "heraldic correctness", as colour shouldn't touch colour (rather appropriate for MS in a way 🤣 ), though this principle is frequently ignored in flag-making....

I am waiting for the local white supremacists to decide efforts to replace that monstrosity with an improved one are part of a liberal push to stamp out their freedoms or something.
Some people should never be exposed to concepts such as "clip art" and "Photoshop" :)
Given the name of the county, I'd go for a simple stylized frontal view of the "classic" St Francis statue, on a plain background... maybe that would appease some of the religious element...

Proposed flag of the General Government, (A German Puppet)
The sword looks like clipart, and the Black and white has nothing to polish culture.
