Rank Insignia and Uniforms Thread

Security Department officer performing a so-called "extrajudicial execution", the shooting of a civilian political dissident. Or a suspected one, at least. The early part of Maximilian's administration saw a great many of these as he commissioned three-man groups of SD personnel to root out and destroy "treason" and dissent.
What's with his arm?

this is a dress uniform of an officer of the navy of the GRI (Greater Roman Imperium{the name is a work in progress}) on the top right is the CoA/insignia of the GRI and below, the flag. there are rank insignia and various other little bits if I can Ever get around to doing them on the computer or scanning them. some of you may have seen one of my ships on the alternate weapons of war thread, The ISS Revenant Onus. I have a vague story in mind for a timeline, but I lost a large portion of the materials I had on my computer when it crashed, so ive been working hardcopy since

Just to ask, Hapsburg, how do you come up with your templates? These are very good for something that is drawn using Paint.

I've probably mentioned it before. Often, I will find a picture that resembles what I want my concept art to look like. I'll paste in MS Paint and use the polygon tool to shape blocks around major parts- limbs, face, clothes. And then edit the lines until I get what I want, and then colour it in.
I use the same process for sketches that I scan.

The picture I used as a base was a photo taken at a balls-awful angle. And it didn't have legs, so I probably drew 'em too short and the arms too long.

2nd Sergeant Carsten Chertok (Novan Imperial Army, 37th Planetary Army (The Shieldbreakers)) does a morning inspection of the Motorpool in NIA Regional Headquarters New Florida-25 (informally refered to by it's garrison as Terrace Infirma due to the large number of Rice Paddies and the fact that it is in an area which has seen numerous riots) during the shift change. Behind him sits a parked Countergrav Artillery Vehicle. It is his job to make sure things work smoothly, but if the need arises he has seen plenty of action. To the soldiers he is intrusted to oversee his marksmenship is respected, but what is feared is ability to unleash upon those who slack off or do a half assed job a Right Royal Thundering.

New Florida is among the more politicially unstable planets of the Novan Empire, largely due to its above average population (nearly five billion), various internal conflicts and feuds, some of which go back to the three colonization ships which made their way to this planet, a pig headed tendancy to independance and the efforts of the Intersteller Protectorate. Three times in the Last century (though never for more than 1.5 T-years before the planets reconquest by the Novan Empire), Protectorate Forces had seized control of the world. Each time the world had been reconquered, a couple million Protectorate Soldiers were generally left on the planets surface and not all of them would surrender after the Empire's return. These would often engage in guerilla activity, as well as providing weapons, supplies and training to various anti-Imperial forces. For this reason, it is not unusual for fully power armored infantry to be on guard in outlying bases. The 37th Planetary Army of the Novan Imperial Army has made the Interstellar Protectorate their traditional enemy, their name refers to the Protectorate Logo (which is a ancient Roman Tower Sheild and Pilum).

Panzergrenadier of the 192nd Panzer Division; rifle companies directly integrated to tank units are considered part of the armoured troops- dragoons, as it were. Like the rest of the infantry, they are fully mechanised or motorised infantry units, though equipped with more anti-armour weapons per squad.
This soldier exemplifies that- a private armed with a 13mm battle rifle and a panzerfaust. His uniform is in the usual rough-cut M92 type, in tropical camouflage with combat webbing, with yellow piping on the shoulder tabs to indicate his being in the armoured troops.

(OOC: If anyone wants to smooth out the head of the rocket for me, that'd be great)

Other examples of formal dress.
To the left is Maximilian in an Army cavalry-type service dress uniform, with decorations of the Cross of Union (with sash), the Order of the Black Eagle, the Star and Grand Cross of the Iron Cross, the Order Pour le Merite, the Star of Terra, the Distinguished Service Cross, the Navy Cross, the Air Service Cross, the House Order of Hohenzollern, and the Order of Saint Mary of Terra; as well as the ribbon bars for several other house and military decorations.
To the right is Rudolph Lanning, Chief Marshal of the Republic and Minister of War, in a simple field jacket in the pearl-grey colour of his rank. His uniform is notably stark, contrasting with Maximilian's but also indicative of his priorities as the chief administrator of the Armed Services. His shirt is in the light brown of the administrative branch of the civil service, a sign of his position as a Cabinet Minister, and his jacket lapels are in the rose-pink of a Staff Officer, as he is part of Maximilian's general staff.

The enlisted and non-com ranks and insignia of Judean Royal Army, Judean Royal Navy, and Judean Royal Air Force (they're all the same). The insignia is in the coloring used on the black Winter Dress Uniforms which are the same for all three services, being distinguished from one another only by differently colored aiguillettes (red for the Army, blue for the Navy, white for the Air Force). The ranks are given in the following format:

Romanized Form

Best Translation
Literal Translation

The rank Rav Samal Malchoti is in fact a frequent short hand for the much longer title given to the senior most non-commissioned officer in each of the three branches. The rank is typically called Rav Samal (Ha'Tzva/Ha'Tzi/Ha'Aviriah) shel (Melech/Malcha). This is best translated as "Sergeant Major of (His/Her) Majesty's (Army/Navy/Air Force)," and the most literal translation is "Over Sergeant of the (Army/Navy/Air Force) of the (King/Queen)." The Magen David in the center is replaced with the emblem of the particular service (gold Magen David flanked by two gold crowned lions rampant for the Army, a crown over crossed gold anchor and trident for the Navy, and a gold crowned eagle with wings displayed and elevated and griping the top flat portion of a Magen David on either side of the top point for the Air Force). The crown in each of these circumstance is the Crown of Judea, which is shaped after the European fashion out of gold with red cloth and topped by a Magen David. I would actually make the emblems but I'm not anywhere near as artistically inclined for all that.

Political uniform rather than military/paramilitary uniform.
Eta Rycon, age 26, in the customary clothing of the Prime Minister. In a custom inherited from the Terran Empire, the PM of the Central Galactic Union wears a crimson double-breasted jacket and trousers with white gloves and black knee-high boots. However, unlike the position of the PM in the old Terran Empire, the office's role in the CGU is as the Dictator's deputy in various government councils and meetings.

governing_corps_uniform_by_imperator_zor-d31gmsb.jpg

(Terran Sphere) Uniform of the Governing Corps of the Interstellar Protectorate. Outside of the election of local officials on the municipal level in the more stable terrirories the Interstellar Protectorate is a nation that is defiantly anti-democratic in nature. The Protectorate is run by an institution known as the Governing Corps. This is a bereaucratic system designed around military lines of organization. Recruits begin their political careers at acadamies which specialise in political history, theory, administrational practices and so forth. Those that graduate become low end administrators, with the more sucessful ones being promoted up the ladder (all the way up to the National High Command) and the least sucessful ones being left in place or dishonorably discharged in case of major corruption. The Governing Corps uniforms contrasts itself with the simple military uniforms because, despite its orginizational structure, it is a seperate entity from the militay. Members of the governing corps are barred from owning any catagory of firearm. They are given cerimonial Canes and (in case of higher ranking figures) batons of office.

Zor, do you have a TL or a written story for this yet? It all sounds pretty damn awesome, and you've obviously put a lot of time and effort into the concept art.

This thread looks as good a place as any for my first post;
