SUBAREA 009-02, the Wood of the Suicides, or the Circle of the Violent against Oneself. This portion of Area-009 consists of a dark forest, with no Damned to be found at first. If a living traveller thinks this, they are mistaken; the Damned are all around them as the very trees they stand amidst, transformed into such an appearance after voluntarily rejecting the body they were given. To add to their isolation, the "people-trees" can only talk if one of their branches are broken, at which point the broken branch will begin to emit blood; DNA analysis of the blood reveals it to be genetically the same as the blood of the person when they were alive (as determined through DNA tests with any kin). Not every person who has committed suicide is located here, as it is only those who voluntarily decide to take their own life without being clouded by any causative mental illness who manage to end up here. (except, that is, for people goaded by SATAN into killing themselves; see the Ninth circle for more info.)
Also in this circle are the profligate who were noted in life to have extravagantly wasted their money, comparable to the wasters back at the Circle of Greed.
Other creatures exist within this area aside from the Damned. Harpies have the body of birds but the face of women, and behave as a bird would (they are non-aggressive to living travellers, but constantly damage the people-trees), while non-anomalous wolves (who otherwise don't mind living travellers) chase the profligate. Any attempt to kill them or other non-Damned creatures inhabiting Inferno will not work.
From here, one can walk out of the forest and into...
SUBAREA 009-03, the Circle of the Violent against God, Art, and Nature. This tier appears as a massive desert, but with two deadly changes: the sand has been superheated to 486°C, regularly burning the Damned in this circle. Fire-resistant vehicles have been provided through previous explorations for the sole purpose of traversing this desert. Furthermore, "fire-rains", where small wisps of fire measuring about 10 cm in diameter fall from the sky, are a regular occurrence. The combination of these two (both capable of harming living travellers) means that crossing the desert without using one of the aforementioned vehicles is certain death and is highly not recommended.
The edge of Area-009 is a massive cliff without any staircases or ladders in sight. The only way to progress to the next tier of Inferno is through either using one of the provided airplanes in the area or, if one happens to have a Guide, summon the demon Geryon. Geryon has the general shape of a wyvern but with the tail of a scorpion, hairy arms, a reptilian body, and a human head. Travellers will be dropped off at the next tier, AREA 010, the circle of Fraud. Also known as the Malebolge, it consists of 10 individual "ditches", reserved for different kinds of Damned souls who used their life to commit fraud.
There are bridges scattered throughout the ditches that allow one to simply pass over them without the risk of injury.
The first ditch, SUBAREA 010-01, is reserved for those who in life exploited others' sexual interests. The Damned in this ditch are composed of 2 categories: panderers (those who furthered illicit love affairs in life, otherwise known as pimps) and seducers (who seduced other people). Both form a long line on opposite sides of the ditch and are constantly whipped by demons. Otherwise, this ditch is made of the same rocky landscape as the rest of the Malebolge.

It's excellent! both 1942&46!...are you going to extend to 1950 and beyond?. One thing, in 1950 FIFA decided to "convince" to the european teams to come, that from Brazil 1950 onwards, the world cup would have at least 3 first round matches for every team, to justify the trip to everywhere. Perhaps in this ATL 1942 this could be, or in 1950 ATL. It is really interesting the inclusion of Bohemia&Moravia
So we don't forget about this later (when the TL gets to the 2000s) you should repost this on @Geekhis Khan's TL as a possible Adult Swim series.

Chaos in Korea
The ROK Army 30th Division engaging crossed North Koreans after they crossed the DMZ, December 2, 2008.
Seoul on fire on December 2, 2008 after an orgy of violence gripped the Korean peninsula following the crossed North Korean invasion. In just a day, the Republic of Korea ceased to exist.

Multiple mushroom clouds erupt in the Korean Peninsula after the People's Republic of China intervened on the Crossed conflict by going down the nuclear route on December 2, 2008. Followed by fears of a Crossed spillover into China, the People's Liberation Army's Second Artillery Corps expended 1/8th of its nuclear arsenal to wipe the virus from its neighboring country. Attacks came in the form of land-based silos, mobile launchers, conventional ballistic missiles, H-6K bombers, and both JL-1 and JL-2 SLBMs from PLAN Type 092 and Type 094 submarines. At the end of the day, the entire Korean Peninsula became a wasteland. Only 20,000 people from the mainland were evacuated into Jeju Island and along with the island's 600,000 residents, is what remains of the rump Republic of Korea today.

The Great Leader, Kim Jong-Il, now a Crossed himself, addresses the world in this KCNA report dated December 1, 2008 of his intention to reunite the Korean Peninsula with the Crossed population of Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Behind him is a KPA general, also a Crossed monster.

Shown here are some ROK-N warships including the helicopter carrier ROKS Dokdo (far-right corner), which fled to Jeju Island after the Korean Peninsula was lost the Crossed. Only 20,000 people from the mainland were evacuated to Jeju Island before Korea was saturated with Chinese nuclear weapons. These ships are what remains of the Republic of Korea Navy.
