Peshawar Lancers Redux: Kingdom of Hawaii Revised

Crown Prince Albert had grown up in the Palace . He had learned much from his father, Uncle and Mother. He had attended the Military Academy and had graduated from it. He had served 6 months in command of a platoon of soldiers on the island of Guam before being reassign to home. For the remainder of his active duty days he served as an officer in the Guard and was promoted to the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He attend the Royal College and got a degree in History and studied Economics at the University of Hawaii. He realized that there was some problem with his father's health but it wasn't until after his father had seen the best doctors that he had a talk with his mother , Queen Emma and his Uncle. Days latter he was called in to see his father and with him was William Kamehameha Dressed in the offical Uniform of a Deputy Superintendent of the Royal Hawaiian Constabulary. His father and William were talking about William's father and William's future. It seemed that he was leaving the Police to run for a seat in the house. The King knew that Charles Bishop was behind this.
William rose to leave the two men alone but the King asked him to remain. The King then told his son that he would have to begin to take over more and more of the responsibilities from him . His time was coming to an end sooner than he had hoped and soon Albert would become King Kamehameha V or King Albert I. He told him that he could trust Prime Minister Bishop, his Uncle and his mother the Queen but that he could also trust William.
It is time My son for you to prepare for your family and your heir. I hope that your reign will be many decades and that your children and Grandchildren will rule this nation.

Canada: Vancouver Island and part of the Western Mainland of British Columbia seemed to be all that was left of Canada. The harsh winters that followed the Fall of 1870 result eventually in the break down of communications with the rest of Canada. The evacuation continued for as long as the Trans-Canadian Railroad could be kept operation. But eventually the line link ti the east began to grow shorter and shorter as Snow and brutally cold weather made it impossible. All that was left were these two foothold onto the part of North America that was Canada. The Government of Hawaii continued to keep open a lifeline to Vancouver. Food, Medicine, clothing came on freighters from Hawaii and ore was hauled off from the mines to pay for the good.. An undersea telegraph line was set up to allow communication the year round. In the Summer Hawaii would carry out expeditions to the North using Vancouver as a base.

Newly elected Representative William Kamehameha was married at a ceremony at the Catholic Church to Miss Jeannie Frances O'Rourke on June 12,1875. On March 7,1876 the first child was born to the couple William O Kamehameha, He was joined by a sister in 1878, brother in 1879 and another sister in 1880. A third son was born in 1895 James Patrick Kamehameha.

Hawaii had been one of the first countries to adopt the new technology The telephone and the electric light began to appear more and more. The Edison Hawaiian Electric Company showed a lot of growth. Undersea cable was laid down to allow calls to Australia, Guam and Canada. Over the course of the 1880 more nations adopted the telephone including the Empire of Brazil and Nueva Granada. But both inventions spread bring wealth to its inventors and investors..

In 1886 King Kamehameha IV passed away and the nation mourned a monarch who had brought a series of improvements to the country. Crown Prince Albert had been named in the line of succession and thus became Monarch with his fathers death. Yet he ordered that the full ceremony be delayed 30 days as respect for the passing of his father. He was however sworn in as King by the Chief Justice of the Hawaiian Supreme court . Present were his Mother, his wife, their 2 children, his Uncle, the Prime Minister, Attorney General, Chief of Naval Operations, Commanding General of the Army and Rep William Kamehameha the Director of the Royal Hawaiian Intelligence Agency. Many would consider him as King Kamehameha V but he referred to himself as King Albert I.

Prime Minister Bishop found that the new King was keenly interested in what the government was doing. He had taken the mantle up of trying to unite the Polynesian people under the Kingdom of Hawaii. Samoa was the first piece to join Hawaii but it would not be the last. Tahiti had thrown off French rule as a result of The Fall. It had grasp the Polynesian Federation as a means to prevent it from falling back under French Control. The Hawaiians had trained the land forces and had also trained the islands Coast Guard and equipped it with surplus ships that had been replaced in the modernization of Hawaii's armed Forces.

The King was something that no other King had been a graduate of the Royal Hawaiian Military Academy. He had commanded troops something that only a few of his ancestors had done. He had been posted away from Hawaii and had done what every other officer had. He had insured that his troops were taken care of.

The King attended the meeting of the Polynesian Federation and talked to the delegates. He addressed the meeting and expressed a desire for all Polynesian people to work together to ensure the common good. Members were allowed to have candidates apply for openings in the two Royal Military Academy's: the Army and the Naval. They had to pass the same test as Hawaiian 's applying ang the cost was paid by the applying country.

Construction of the American Canal had entered its second phase. Based upon available equipment and the route selected in the Central American Republic General Wilcox and the officer in Charge were confident that the Canal would be completed by 1900. That gave them 14 years Two Battalions of Royal Hawaiian Army Engineers as well as two Hawaiian Construction companies and nearly 24,000 Central American workers were on the project. A concrete plant had been built in the Central American republic to help meet the needs.

The King had met with a delegation from the Science department of the University of Hawaii asking for his help in raising funds for the construction of a special vessel to study the effects of the Fall. The King agreed to help the fund raising effort and donated 10,000 Hawaiian dollars and he got his uncle to match it. By talking to friends he was able to boost the fund to 100,000 dollars. The Prime Minister stated that the government would match the fund raising up to 50,000 dollars. In addition the Royal Hawaiian Navy had just cancelled a ship which was under construction. He had spoken to the Navy and the Bureau of Ship design thought that it could be modified to meet the University's needs. The Navy had alreay paid 40,0000 dollars and the government agreed to absorb that cost as an additional contribution toward the project. The British Government also contributed 50,000 pounds toward the project and the Empire of Brazil donated the equivalent .

Thanks to the King's assistance the University of Hawaii now had work being done on a ship that would meet the needs of it in being able to gather data on the impact of The Fall. The yard that was working on the vessel estimated that it would be completed by June of 1889. The yard was working on the ship despite having a lot of other work on new navy cruisers part of the new Steel Navy. While most of the worlds navies were operating on coal fired power plants research had begun on alternative sources of energy. The alternative source was OIL. The Royal Hawaiian Petroleum Company had been created by investors and it had reached an agreement with the government of Nuva Granada to drill for oil there. It had also partnered with a company in the Empire of Brazil to do the same. In the Pacific the Company had Partnered with the Royal Dutch Shell Company and British Petroleum.

Hawaii was in the business of trade and as a result its companies were heavily involved in buying and selling thigs. Hawaii lacked a lot of resources which a growing country and economy would need. The Future of the country was heavily linked to the American Canal being constructed . once it was complete Hawaii would be able to more directly trade with South America, Europe and North Africa. Hawaiian ships continued to visit San Francisco but reports of trouble in the souther part of the state and the rest of the nation was of deep concern to the Hawaiian. The Hawaiian and the Mexicans had clashed at sea but the fact that Hawaii was a strong Naval power caused the Mexican to back off.

The National Conservative Party in Hawaii continued to dominate the government. Mr Dole lead the opposition Party The Liberal Reform Party. It appeared that the Party was seeking a new leader, one that could win. The Party had opposed anything that could lead to conflict with another country but that was seen as weakness by the Hawaiian people. In 1887 Jonathan Cao engineered the outer of Mr Dole and his replacement by James De Ortero

The new head of the Liberal Party James De Otero came from a family that had originally come to Hawaii from Portugal in 1852. He had been born in Hawaii and had grown up in the islands. He had graduated from the Royal College of Hawaii in 1882 and had worked in one of the shipping companies, In 1886 he had been elected to a seat as a Liberal Reform Party member. He found that the Party needed reform as its positions were outdated and seemed to smack of disloyalty to the Monarchy. He changed the name to the Liberal Party of Hawaii.

I recommend changing the name to James Otero or James De Otero. I can't find a record of that surname, while Otero is a Spanish surname, but it's present in Portugal.
