"What was the point of the American Experiment if the British still manage the affairs of these lands?"
- Benjamin Scandella, 1824 The Argument for Liberty

Pennsylvania has been the victim for nearly fifty years, starting in the American Independence War, with the Great Runaway which depopulated the northern part of the state, setting the stage for the Connecticut Land Wars. Philadelphia was occupied and the Continental Army faced many crises at Valley Forge. The capital of these United States moved from Philadelphia to Fredericksburg, and Harrisburg became the capital of the State. British intervention in the Connecticut Land Wars saw Pennsylvania's stature lowered significantly, literally cut in half territorially. Severely in debt, Harrisburg was pressured by Congress into giving away the Western Corner to Virginia in 1800. Now, Philadelphia, the birthplace of the United States, is being intentionally sabotaged

The US of 1824 is essentially a junior partner of Great Britain, with the Fredericksburg Consensus tending towards siding with the interests of London. The loose confederation is divided and essentially merely a forum to hear interstate problems, which are resolved by states on a case-by-case basis.

New England is dominated by the dual giants of Massachusetts and Connecticut. Massachusetts is a naval power, and makes its income primarily through external trade, with several tributary missions to China, merchant grants from Oman, and outposts in Africa and the Pacific. On the continent, Massachusetts tries its best to remain neutral, with the Maine border being decided by a neutral third party. Connecticut is the land power, after the Connecticut Land Wars, having accrued in the signing of the Treaty of Brooklyn; Long Island, West Moreland, The Western Reserve, as well as free navigation of the Hudson River and ownership of the Kingston-Mahackamack Canal. Connecticut is a dynamic mixed economy, with logging, agriculture, fishing, and manufacturing all contributing to the wealth of the state. Rhode Island is a marginally successful fishing economy, but is dominated by its neighbors. New Hampshire is a quiet oligarchy of landlords and merchants. Vermont is a British protectorate not associated with the United States, and heavily reliant on British North America.

The Middle Colonies have had a rough go at it. New York relinquished claims over Seneca lands after the Connecticut Land Wars, and is surrounded primarily by Britain, Connecticut, and their allies. The economy is isolated, as Albany attempts to grow its own industry, in spite of interference from Connecticut. West Moreland and Pennsylvania have infrequent border clashes, and Pennsylvania is still working to resettle some of the refugees displaced in the Connecticut Land Wars. Economic instability has plagued Pennsylvania since the War, and with the exception of free blacks, most immigration to the state has halted. Harrisburg has tended to try to undercut other sources of power wherever they be. New Jersey is a second rate Massachusetts, with more piracy and alcoholism. All are harassed by the powers which guard the mouths of the Hudson and Delaware Bay, respectively.

The South revolves around two poles: The Chesapeake Bay and Charlestown. Maryland got Delaware in the CLW, and made the most of the situation; Pennamite sympathizers and Quakers were expelled to Pennsylvania, and their property sold by the state to fund canal projects. The Free black population is rivaled only by that of Pennsylvania, but discussions of deportation to Africa are scaring many to Philadelphia. Virginia is the largest US state, stretching from the Chesapeake to Muskeg Bay and the Mississippi River. Though the cotton gin has not yet made inland varieties of cotton more profitable, slavery has been expanding in the interior as the state commissions slave labor to build fortifications and canals in the Ohio and Indiana country. North Carolina has been industrializing as slavery's grip weakens in the state, and a labor class is forming which opposes the powers of the slaveholders and Congress. South Carolina is intimately bonded with the Caribbean colonies of Great Britain, with elites travelling between the two. The predominance of slavery as a display of wealth, has forced the state to install permanent militias ready to respond to insurrections and disobedience. In Georgia, the abolition movement has regained traction, with many Scottish immigrants and free blacks seeking emancipation. Savannah has rapidly become the New Bedford of the South, with missions as far away as Hokkaido bringing whale bone and oils back to be smuggled into New Spain.

The United States is a hollow husk of what it could be, and many young folks know it. The winds of change are on the way. In Philadelphia, Quakers and Freedmen discuss the liberation of all slaves in the United States, including those in bondage to British despotism. The slaves in Fort Ohio are wide awake while the overseers sleep. Sganyodaiyo has received visions of a Unifying Flame in all men, and his half-brother known to many Americans as 'The Giant Watcher' travels across North America. The turmoil across the Mississippi in Mexico may be more than just a flash in the pan revolt. A Bubble is forming in the Pearl River Delta, and threatens the delicate balance the Fredericksburg Congress has sought to enforce.

How did this work again? Delaware was technically another state. The text seems somewhat confusing, but I might just be a bit distracted. New Jersey is with New York and Pennsylvania in being harrassed by their neighbors, correct? And good to see the Quakers are keeping their abolitionist streak. Has that leaked to the non-pacificist members of their country?

As the smoke cleared after the Second Weltkrieg, The map of Europe was again redrawn. The German century ended as quickly as it began. The rapid advance of the Russo-Syndicalist Allied forces culminated in the now iconic "handshake at the Elbe", which saw the two armies fraternize. During the Vienna Agreement it was decided by the victorious Allied powers that:

  • Germany would be divided into two occupation zones. West of the Elbe under the control of the Syndicalist Internationale, lead by France and Britain. And East of the Elbe, under the control of the Russian Republic.
  • Germany had to pay substantial reparations and would take full responsibility for the war and would begin a procedure of demilitarization.
  • Kaiser Wilhelm III, who succeeded to the throne after the death of his father in 1941 would abdicate. A new constitution would be drafted providing a framework for post-war Germany.
  • In the west, Germany woud cede parts of the western half of Hanover Province, the city of Aachen with it's surrounding area as well as Luxemburg and all former Belgian territory gained in the First Weltkrieg to the USCR. France would gain control of Alsace-Lorraine and would administrate the Rhineland until a new German state is set-up as part of it's occupation zone. With the downfall of National France, Algeria and Tunisia would be administered as Autonomous Republics within the Commune. A referendum would be organized to see if the people of Northern Schleswig would want reunification with Denmark.
  • In the east, Germany would lose Posen as well as Eastern Pomerelia with the city of Danzig to the new Republic of Poland, giving it acces to the sea. The former German Puppet states of Ukraine, White Ruthenia and the United Baltic Duchy would be reintegrated back into Russia but with the restriction that these regions would gain autonomy. Lithuania would become a new independent nation and would gain the area around Memel.
  • The tripartite Austro-Hungarian Empire would be disbanded, giving Hungary,Illyria and Austria independence from Habsburg rule. It was also decided that reunification between the three nations was prohibited. A strict republican constitution was introduced in all three in an attempted to ward off potential pretenders to the Imperial Title. Illyria was awarded the Banat region and a possible merger with Serbia in on the table in the near future. Hungary got to hold on to it's Slovakian lands and Transslyvania.
  • Veneto,South Tirol,Dalmatia and parts of Istria would be given to the Socialist Republic of Italy, now in control of the entire Peninsula after the second Risorgimento. Poland would gain Galicia. After the toppling of the Iron Guard regime, Romania pulled out of the war. In recognition of these action it was awarded Bukowina.
  • Bulgaria would lose all it's gains they made during the First Weltkrieg to Serbia and Greece. Greece would also gain East Thrace from the Ottoman Empire and occupy the area's around Scutari and Smyrna.
Even towards the end of the Second Weltkrieg, it became clear that the alliance between the Syndicalists and Russians would not hold. Milyukov, who replaced Kerensky as President feared the possible prospect of being surrounded by Syndicalist nations. In every nation liberated from the Germans and occupied by Russia, they would install temporary governments mostly made up of Anti-Syndicalists and Authoritarian Democrats, In Austria,Lithuania and Hungary, Syndicalists were banned from participation in government entirely. The Syndicalist powers saw this as a repression of the people's will by the Russians. It was blocked by Russian troops from providing relief to the people of Bohemia during the Commune of Prague, being cited as "meddling in an independent country's internal affairs" by Russia. The breaking point came when the German Syndicalist and SocDem parties merged into the United Syndicalist Party of Germany. The party's new leader,Wilhelm Pick was appointed as the Chairman of the Joint Occupation Zones in Germany (JOZiG). In response the Russians announced general elections in their occupation zone. after a landslide victory, the Christian Democrats with the Liberal Party formed a new government with Theodor Heuss as it's first president. The German Federal Republic was proclaimed in late 1949. Fearfull that they would claim the entire German territory, Pick and the Syndicalist powers proclaimed the German Council Republic. Splitting Germany at the Elbe. A new era had begon. The era of the Silent War between the Western CSA led Paris Pact and the Eastern Russian led Eurasian Treaty Organisation.

How did the Whites win the Russian Revolution? And the capital is at Petrograd?! You monster. :p

after the Second Weltkrieg, The map of Europe
I really enjoyed the map, as well as your TL, it's a marvel to look on and very well done!
But I find it bodering on ASB that so many White Ruthenian and Ukrainian lands went to Poland, especially since they were part of said nations TTL. Also, no Polish Silesia and how come Wallonie and Romandie is not part of French Commune?!
And how did Hungary managed to lose Voevodina but not Slovakia or Transilvania?

Did they really straight up copy Greenland and the Canadian arctic islands from real life?

Delaware tried to fly the Coop in the middle of the Connecticut Land Wars, and the Philly influenced Governor had plans to abolish slavery, kick out the Africans, and make his state a Yankee wannabe. The state descended into Civil War, and Maryland took the liberty of enforcing property rights and reinstalling loyal Americans in office (who may or may not be from Maryland). Delaware still has an independent delegation in Congress, and in practice Dover still administers the state, but the elite have been contented to be part of Maryland given they're the ones who receive the taxes imposed on Delaware Bay shipping, and have open access to the market of the largest city in the US

New Jersey is harassed in the south by Maryland, which taxes shipping in the Delaware Bay, and by New England ships fishing NJ waters. The British Navy still impresses New Jerseyans and from time to time.

Quakers are some real movers and shakers, and many Quaker influenced movements are occurring through the North. Their level of pacifism is subject to the variation d3pending on how far the movement strays from Our Friend Societies
