Defeat of Bolkiah, a Philippines timeline

A Sultan’s defeat
On a certain date in the late 1400s and the beginning of the 1500s, the Bruneians led by Nakhoda Ragam Bolkiah, Sultan of Brunei would be defeated in their attempt to sack Tondo and Tondo would continue to be the hub of trade of China with the Malay Archipelago, the Pasig Channel or Pasig River.

The Island of Selurong or Lucon to the Portuguese would be affected by the turbulence of the issues of the last Majapahit Emperors Brawijaya VI and Brawijaya VII(Prabu Udara) and the Portuguese would enter the ports of Tondo and Caboloan and establish their factories as well during that time that was until 1528 when the last Emperor of Majapahit, Brawijaya VII would be defeated by the ruler of Demak ending the Majapahit Empire that the records about Majapahit and Selurong would be known despite the Portuguese factories continuing to exist, the formation of Selurong or the Tagarug Kingdom would be anyone’s guess as the Kingdom of Selurong would be not known after the end of Majapahit Empire in 1528 until the Spanish would contact them and majority of the history was just folk tales.[1]

1. Luzon/Selurong remain Hindu/Animist not partly Muslim like what happened when the Spanish came.

Magellan Survives
Magellan would land in Limasawa in Leyte and celebrate the first mass in Leyte.

Magellan would be able to Christianize and have the rulers of Sugbu, Leyte and Butuan swear fealty to the Spanish, Since Butuan had a large territory on Mindanao, the Spanish would be able to establish rule of a large swath of the Island due to the ruler of Butuan bowing over the Spanish which would later threaten the survival of the small and fledgling Sultanate of Maguindanao which was just established and the Spanish would establish their capital as Sugbu.[1]

On 1530 Spanish under the troops of Magellan would fight Mohammed Kabungsuwan in the South of Mindanao destroying Islam in the Island of Mindanao forcing the Maguindanaos and Maranaos to Christianity, Christianizing the tribes of Maguindanao and Maranaos and the Zamboanga peninsula would be under the Spanish as well, expelling the Tausugs to Basilan.

1. No sack of Tondo, No Lapu Lapu which means Magellan would proceed in the lands he acquired and Mindanao becomes Christian first.

Miguel Lopez de Legaspi
On 1565, Miguel Lopez de Legaspi will arrive and due to a scarcity of food provisions in Cebu, Lopez de Legaspi would transfer his capital to Panay town on the island of Panay where they were peacefully welcomed by the Confederacy of Madyaas.

Subsequently, Miguel Lopez de Legaspi would establish the settlement they named Capiz, located on the bank of the Panay River.

In 1570, having heard of the rich resources in Luzon or Selurong, Lopez de Legaspi dispatched Martin de Goiti to explore the northern region. Landing in Batangas with a force of 120 spanards, de Goiti explored the Pansipit River which drains the Taal Lake.

Establishment of Nueva Castilla
Miguel Lopez de Legaspi would learn that the Selurong/Luzon is a Kingdom under Portuguese influence as Tondo has Portuguese factories and Taal is not under its Kings rule and the people in the South have some conflicts with the people of the North and he would incite them to fight against the King of Selurong under Portuguese influence.

The King of Selurong, Kasikis would see that the people of Selurong south of the Pasig river channel would be against him and they would rise which would lead to the area falling under the Spanish rule and his army and his Portuguese mercenaries would lose the fight against the Spanish and the rebels and the Spanish would later get the Principality of Taal as well.

The Spanish half of Selurong/Luzon would be called as Nueva Castilla.[1]
1. Similar to OTL.

This is pretty much more or less similar to what the Philippines would look like for my Portugal TL except that Magellan serves for Portugal rather than for Spain, Afonso de Albuquerque plays an important role in Portuguese relations with the Majapahit remnant and that the lowland Saludongese are mostly Catholic with a significant Hindu minority while the highland Tagarug peoples remain Hindu/Animist.

In addition, the Rajahnate of Cebu and the Madya-as Confederacy are loose Portuguese protectorates for a short time before being transferred to the Castilian sphere of influence sometime around the late 16th century.

I am writing how the Philippines will look like without Bolkiah's sack of Tondo and how it affects world politics.

The personal union
On 1581, the Portuguese crown would be fall to Philip II, with his wife Mariana of Austria as his consort due to Sebastian dying in his crusade in Morocco and due to Henry, the Cardinal King of Portugal not being allowed to be released in his vows.

The rule of Philip II would force the Selurong, Gowa and Ternate to switch to Dutch influence and the Portuguese factories would be replaced with the Dutch factories gradually.

The future personal union would also force the Portuguese to start to lose their own position and influence in favor of the Dutch in East Indies, although the Portuguese would keep the Lesser Sundas, and the Spice Islands except for Ternate.

I made it identical to OTL because I did not change anything prior to 1580 aside from the Philippines and I used butterfly nets.

Savior Complex
The Visayan Speakers of Cebu and Butuan would see the Spanish as their saviors against the Tausug raiders from the Bolkiah ruled Sulu-Brunei Sultanate, during the time of Legaspi the people of Madyaas would submit to the Spanish and the Spanish would also save the people related to the Visayans south of Selurong from the NeoMajapahitan state of Selurong reuniting these people with the Visayans.

The Spanish would encounter periodically raiders from the Hindu State of Selurong and the Sulu-Bruneian Sultanate and the Spanish would create fortifications and guards in the Border in the Pasig Channel in Selurong and watch towers in the Visayan regions.

Establishment of Spanish Galleons
On 1598, Philip II would die and the Spanish would be treated as the Savior of the Visayan people against the raiders in North and the South West, the Spanish would call the people from the North as Tagala and the Southwest raiders as the Jolaoano or Moros.

The trade with the Chinese that the Spanish would trade would cause the Spanish to gain more control over the Spanish held Selurong or Nueva Castilla starting on the Spanish rule in 1570, the Kingdom of Selurong would be vindictive against the Spanish and would not be able to successfully claim the Visayan Speaking Southern half of Selurong, Philip III would use the money from the Chinese trade and the new world to continue on their hold to the Portugal as well and the Silver from the Spanish New world would arrive Ming in Macau.

The Conquest of Spanish Luzon or Nueva Castilla in 1570’s would establish the Spanish Galleons route.

The Chinese acquiring Silver from the Spanish would weaken the Ming and would cause its own fall in the hands of the Qing.

Finale
During the Portuguese Succession, 7 years war Napoleonic wars and other wars the Philippines have been conquered and was loyal, despite the fact that the Northern Pagans from the Kingdom of Selurong and the Muslims from the Southwest would attack the Colony, however, the Spanish would be able to acquire Paragoa from Sulu-Brunei on 1700 after the Spanish attacked the Sulu Sultanate.

The Country would majorly speak several Visayan languages that would coalescence into a koine or common language among the Visayan speakers and another common language would be Chavacano, a Spanish language which would be the common language of Mindanao and Spanish would be the common language of the Colony.

In the Present the Spanish colony of the Philippines would last as a colony of the Spanish even after the death of Francisco Franco and granted independence on the year 2000 along with Western Sahara when the Spanish would give up having Colonies.

End
