In 1946, at the suggestion of his friend the late President Franklin D. Roosevelt, actor Orson Welles ran for the U.S. Senate for Wisconsin - his home state. Despite Wisconsin's Republican lean and the fierce opposition of the business community, Welles mounted a campaign as a Democrat.

But what if Welles hadn't run? And what if he never went into politics at all?

Hollywood's brain but the Country's loss. We may have had Nixon as Pesident instead of him.
Didn't some 1990s-era PM of Canada try getting the lead role in Star Trek? Shatner as Captain Pike instead of Nixon would be different for star trek. Would Star Trek even be the franchise it is with some unknown canadian as the captain?

OOC: Wait, what? Are you saying that as a result of the POD Richard Nixon becomes an actor and plays Captain Kirk?

Could it be there are other short term butterflies? For example, LaFollette only narrowly managed to get the Republican nomination for President Senator that year as is; if Welles wasn’t a factor in the race, could that be enough for Joseph McCarthy to make a real name for himself earlier?
