IMO you'd need a POD in the 40's or so, non specific but enough to get the butterflies working. Anyways my take for a revised TL

50's have an *Suez that results in the UK deciding to go with France rather that working on a special relationship with the US. US experiments with nuclear rockets begin earlier and get more funds

60's China pulls a Goa on Hong Kong and Macau, this leads both to greater US-UK tensions, the latter not happy the US did not want to stick its neck out for them, UK turns towards EEC, China becomes being seen as a greater boogeyman. With China seen as more aggressive the US is less eager to escalate in Vietnam, butterflying that war. US still makes a go for the moon, but decides on a nuclear fission upper stage, delaying the moon landing to next decade but getting a working fission rocket

70's Detente between the US and USSR, economic malaise in the US, with proto EU and Japanese imports being blamed for job losses. Soviets' build their own fission rockets, having that level of space lift available sees greater exploration of space. Generally see nuclear programs in minor countries go forward faster than OTL. China remains firmly Maoist rather than reforming. First arms control treaties seen as the beginning steps to the Codominium

80's Afghanistan is butterflied, Detente continues. US asks for a Plaza accord equivalent, this is rebuffed, poisoning the well between US and its major allies while relations with the USSR are at an all time high. An incidence of nuclear terrorism occurs with a weapon taken from a minor country, does not happen in US or USSR but the two countries agree to a joint antiterorism task force with intel sharing, precursor to Codominium Intelligence service. Limited economic reforms in USSR. First nuclear pulse drive vessels built in orbit, Mars landing, exploration of Jovian moons

90's Soviet economy continues to liberalize, minor political liberalization, major trade pact between US and USSR, use their joint political influence to force most minor nations into fold, US economic malaise ends, economic trouble in western Europe and Japan due to market access issues leading from US/USSR treaties. Expansion of joint US/USSR intel service with first joint military units

2000's Functional end of Cold War. US/USSR begin forcing disarmament treaties on rest of world as well as restrictions on nuclear tech/research after a second nuclear terrorism incident. A joint US/USSR Gendarme is formed to monitor enforcement and serve as a functional replacement to UN peacekeepers. Breakup of EEC as German reunification is made contingent on leaving the EEC and joining the US/USSR trade bloc, most of EEC follows suit due to proto Codominium economic pressure

2004-2008 Experiments at CalTech provide basis for Alderson Drive and Langston field

2010's Official formation of Codominium as a supranational organization. Grand Senate formed as governing body, with the US and USSR controlling most seats but limited voting power included for "responsible states", international restrictions on arms research created. First interstellar probes

2020's Codominium Gendarme turned into Codominum armed forces after major intervention required in a Mexican civil war, economic malaise in both US and USSR. First economic fusion reactor

2030's Laser launch systems create reduction in space lift costs, first commercial asteroid mining, economic expansion in US and USSR, does not trickle down to masses. First interstellar flight. Restrictions in general research put into place after someone releases a gene tailored plague, CoDominium declares an end to international armed conflict on Earth

2040's First fusion drive ships, great survey finds numerous inhabitable planets, terraforming begins on many not so inhabitable ones. First "welfare islands" in the US

2050's First Great Exodus begins, new colonies begin being founded by major nationstates as prestige projects, US/USSR have largest and best. R&D essentially stops after increased regulations, CD intelligence begins active sabotage efforts

2060's Codominium fleet and Marines are founded to control the new colonies, French foreign legion used as nucleus for the latter as its institutional culture deemed most useful for isolated units on very long deployments. Economic inequality on Earth continues to grow, Codominum intel begins suppressing dissent in US and USSR

2070's drop in cost of fusion drive ships leads to Second Great Exodus, minor nations create colonies, along with various interest groups, these are smaller and less stable than the earlier ones in general. Codominium Marines begin being used to put down risings in US and USSR

2080's Bureau of Relocation founded and used to start shipping involuntary exiles off Earth en masse

2090's CoDominium intelligence begins massively meddling in US/USSR internal politics

2140's Codominium no longer functional due to disagreements between US and USSR, Fleet becomes de facto independent

2150's Last War, end of Codominium in nuclear fire

To flag how quickly I can see the country becoming authoritarian/ totalitarian, definitely consider these dates:

1976: Lyndon Larouche (D-NH) is elected as U.S. President , citing disgust at the Nixon Administration, running on a populist platform,...

1980: President Lyndon Larouche blames "rock n' roll" music on British/ Vatican conspiracy aimed at undermining the United States, sparking tensions with Great Britain and Western Europe,....

1982: President Lyndon Larouche announces plans for the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI), a.k.a. "Star Wars" program, fueling fears of a possible war with the Soviets,..

1987: Entrepreneur Donald J. Trump leads "Make America Great Again" rallies in New York City, New York, attracting the attention of the Larouche Administration,...

1988: Former Green Beret James "Bo" Gritz launches a failed coup attempt against the Larouche Administration, sparking international attention,..

1998: James "Bo" Gritz commits suicide at his prison cell in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas,...

I can certainly run with it. I can imagine Lyndon Larouche being an authoritarian president in the 1976-1980s, going for 3-4 terms, in an effort to overshadow FDR. With Donald Trump added to the ticket in the 1980s, in an effort to garner more of the youth vote...
With that in mind, and given the more frequent posts about Larouche becoming president, would these be alright to add?

November 4th, 1980: Lyndon Larouche wins re-election against Republican nominee [Insert Name Here].

November 6th, 1984: Lyndon Larouche wins re-election against Republican nominee [Insert Name Here], becoming the first becoming the first president since Franklin D. Roosevelt to serve three terms in office as president.

November 8th, 1988: Lyndon Larouche wins re-election against Republican nominee [Insert Name Here], becoming the first president since Franklin D. Roosevelt to win four presidential elections.

Do you think Larouche could also possibly run for a fifth term in office in the 1992 election or not?

If he is healthy enough, but I am guessing that after close to 2 decades, that LaRouche would certainly be tired of the office. I am also guessing that some terrorist act or action against the Co-Dominium Alliance would take place, threatening it before it comes to power....

How does this look then, for the 1992 election?

[Insert Date Here], 1991: Lyndon Larouche announces that he will not run for re-election in 1992, opening the door for a new Democratic presidential nominee for the first time since the 1976 election,..

January 15, 1992: Lyndon Larouche endorses [Insert Name Here] for president.

February 10, 1992: [Insert Larouche's Endorsed Nominee Here] wins the Iowa caucus in the Democratic presidential primary,...

February 22, 1992: [Insert Larouche's Endorsed Nominee Here] loses the Maine caucus in the Democratic presidential primary to [Insert Name Here],…

March 3, 1992: [Insert Larouche's Endorsed Nominee Here] wins the Minnesota caucus in the Democratic presidential primary, but loses the Washington and Idaho caucuses to [Insert Name Here],…

April 11, 1992: [Insert Larouche's Endorsed Nominee Here] loses the Virginia caucus in the Democratic presidential primary to [Insert Name Here],...

July 13-16, 1992: [Insert Name Here]* is officially nominated as the Democratic nominee for the 1992 presidential election at the 1992 Democratic National Convention in New York City, New York, [Insert Nominee's Name Here] also announces [Insert Name Here] as their vice presidential candidate,...

*This doesn't have to be the same as Larouche's endorsed nominee, BTW

Who are some people besides Lyndon LaRouche and Donald J. Trump who would be perfect for an authoritarian American government? We can also certainly have some military leaders launching a military coup...

Alexander Haig, for starters.
Edwin Walker and Curtis Le May were infamous in the 1950s/1960s in their opposition to the actions of the Kennedy Administration, and attempts to resolve things peacefully. In the book Resurrection Day by Brendan DuBois, the generals launch a coup, and blame the Kennedy Administration, when their plans trigger a nuclear war,...

Something to make the ATL a little different, what if the Mafia and organized crime bosses served the same role as the Russian oligarchs. With most mainstream businesses being actively repressed, consider that the Mafia, much like the Russian oligarchs could potentially grow in power and influence.

If anything, I liked that novel, and if anything, consider how the Hutts were openly operating on Tatooine, as the Imperial forces began to secure their power in the Star Wars franchise, or how the Maquis were used during the Dominion War in Star Trek: DS9....

Something that came to mind is that South Asia, North Africa and the Middle east are almost never mentioned in the ATL. My guess is that, considering the politics espoused by the initial authors, those areas were the subject to war with the Co-Dominium. But it also seems to flag that the Islamic world became the target to the worst acts of genocide since Hitler, Pol Pot, and Mao Tse tung combined....

It's not so much war as likely the CoDominium just keeping them poor and irrelevant. The major colonies are basically founded by important countries with influence over the CoDominium, minor colonies by ideologues with money, most of which are irrelevant. Presuming those countries stayed poor and irrelevant they would not have had money to set up any colonies the viewpoint characters would care about. They would thus not be the target of the two great genocides in the CoDominium verse, rather than collateral damage from them occurring, and survivors of the first would be disproportionately from rich nations that could get their people off earth in greater numbers

Of the worlds that are relevant to the plot of the novels in the Codominium period, Arrarat only because the main characters are there, ditto Hadley and Thurstone (Okay the Chinese portion of the planet is relevant as exporters of tech but major colony), Tanith because of its drug exports, Haven only because characters are there, New Washington and Franklin, latter is a major colony funded by US, former relevant to deny it to the latter to prevent a threat from emerging, Sparta and St. Ekaterin relevant minor colonies due to locations being ideal for bases for CD fleet, Churchill, Meji, Dayan, Covenant, High Cathay, Friedland, major colonies funded by important nations. Other worlds that may have been colonized by South Asians, North Africans and Middle Easterners would be irrelevant to the plot

We do know there are Muslim worlds in the Second Empire period, Horace Hussein Bury is a Muslim and a major character in two novels, and Makassar has a Malay-Indonesian-Philippine descended population with a significant Muslim population
